RATE BATMAN - The Telltale Series - EP 2 - SPOILER FREE

Let's plays are starting to pop up, and the episode should be out soon in Australian territories, so same rules as usual. Keep things SPOILER FREE and try to keep it brief. Also be wary of thumbnails (People can be assholes), If you are curious I saw (didn't watch, just counted the total time between the parts) a complete let's play of episode 2 clock in at 76 minutes (which is a lot shorter than I was expecting...) Hopefully its paced well.

  • Good luck tomorrow, my friend. I hope we both get to play the game without troubles.

  • Yeah! I've grown accustom to playing in a window after playing through the first episode 2 times, but I'm definitely crossing both my fingers and toes that Telltale patched whatever stops the game from running well on laptops.

  • I suggest that you try and play it with your Anti-virus program closed as well as clean your PC from unnecessary files. Also check your Task Manager if your Disk runs at 100%. If so, I found a solution on that by searching on Google so it doesn't run with 100%. While still not perfect, it improved my gameplay of Batman well enough.

If you haven't tried it yet of course.

  • Glad to hear the short length doesn't hold it back. Looking forward to tomorrow!

    Wow... Just wow...

That was a really good episode. That choice... That last choice... Just holy crap. I got so depressed when they made me choose... Aarrghhh!!!!
The scene where you have to choose 'which smartphone to buy' seemed to have a lot of variations to it.
The episode was intense, there were things always happening.

The dialogue thoug... It felt rushed at times. The initial scene was kinda... 'Yeah, sure. Way to handle that kind of stuff Telltale.' I'll give it a pass.

I'm glad that Telltale isn't afraid of changing Batman's story.

Really good episode, 9.5/10. If they keep it up, this will be better than TWAU.

  • wish you didn't mention a choice (even if it is minor)

  • Is the Episode short?

  • 1h and 20m. This is as long as the twau ep2,3 and 4 were with the fifth episode being slightly shorter at about 1h and 10m.

    Is the Episode short?

  • A definite 9. Maybe a 9.5, actually.

It's short, just over an hour like some people have said, but it's paced so well it doesn't even feel like it. I swear, it felt like it was longer than it was. And I'll consider that a good thing. It's like having a burger that looks small, but after you eat it, it fills you up way more than you were ever expecting going into it.

And they seemed to have listened to the problems with episode 1. It feels more smooth and stable, the QTEs seem to be refined, as well as re-tuned so they aren't as intensive as episode 1's. There were still a few technical hiccups and frame drops here and there, but less frequent and annoying than in episode 1.

And they're still changing the rules and the world of Batman quite a bit. They weren't lying when they said they're going to be turning things on their head (they did say that, right?)

Oh yeah, and we already know it from what we saw in episode 1 and in the trailer/screens for episode 2, but let me reassure everyone-- the Penguin is indeed awesome.

  • Mine still says "episode 2 coming soon" Is anybody else having this problem? Any idea how to fix it?

  • Only comment if you've played the episode.

  • Far better than the first episode imo. 9/10

  • Are you on a console? You will have to add it to your account and download it. It will be marked as free if you have the season pass.

But yeah, best to keep this on topic. I enjoyed the episode, though the frame-rate/stuttering on the PS4 was quite noticeable during the first scene when you have control and walk around. Not the only instance, hardly all the time, but the one I remember clearly.

7/10, I wasn't really crazy about the pacing or the action and I was disappointed the episode didn't have much variety in its gameplay compared to the first episode. It was a fine episode but overall a little disappointing.

  • 9/10 (Maybe a 9.5) That was a fantastic 80 minutes of pure adrenaline rushing intrigue. The choices were hard, and felt like they had huge consequences, and I'm REALLY liking what Telltale is doing to stand out from other Batman canons. This really is their Batman!

  • Great episode! 9/10

  • Holy. This was AMAZING. The Bruce parts were much better than episode 1 and the scenes without the cowl felt really intense. 9.5/10

  • Wow, that episode was practically flawless. I never got bored and the action scenes are done extremely well. Also, there was a hub. Gotta love hubs. The only thing that felt a little bit off was the "batcat" parts. It seemed kind of forced and just too sudden.

  • Amazing episode that was so good I didn't even mind shorter length. I really like this Telltale's take on Batman. :) And it had one of the hardest choice I had to make in any Telltale games so plus points for that.

    9/10

My only real complaint is that it was pretty short and Vicki didnt have a very big role this episode, other than that, this episode was amazing, easily a 9.5/10

It was a fantastic episode that kept me on the edge of my seat both while I played as Batman and while I played as Bruce Wayne.

The dialogue options were generally good and offered a generally wide range of ways Bruce could tackle each conversation, except for one.

The fight scenes were absolutely fantastic.

I give this episode 9.5/10. I would have given a 10 if it wasn't for that one dialogue I mentioned.

  • I feel like trash.

I haven't felt like that since TWD S2. Good on you Telltale. 9.5/10

  • 9.5/10

The episode was well written, the pacing was great (one of the few times I think having a shorter episode worked in the episode's favor rather than hindering it), and it really moves the story along. I really do love what they've done, not only with Oz/Penguin, but with the Waynes, it such an interesting deviation from what they usually do in Batman media.

Negatives, the game still runs bad on PC (better, but still bad), and the choices weren't really that difficult.

  • Didn't got to play when I installed it, due to having too much to drink last night.

But definitely enjoyed this episode! Much better than Episode 1, which was more or less a set up for the story. I find myself way more engaged and more emotionally invested. I like that Bruce's parents are really corrupted and connected to Falcone and Hill, which puts a lot more conflict and question in Batman's motivation. The final choice was tough. I also enjoy the simpler QTE and more slow time, which make it easier to follow the combat.

While the gameplay is a lot better, the game still doesn't run perfectly, but a simple complaint, since I was very invested in the story.

    A 9/10.

  • About the same level of quality as the first episode. 8/10. Biggest issue is that the climax felt kinda rushed and sloppy to me. Solid episode overall though.

    8.5 of 10.

My only solid complaints are the fact that it was only about an hour and change, and that maybe everything that happened was really fast.

Regardless, there was some choices that I had a hard time making, so that was good.

I liked what they are doing with the Penguin. It was neat.

I am a little disappointed there wasn't one kind of scene in it that was in Episode 1, but it's okay.

  • Amazing! Definitely felt shorter than EP1 but a lot more interesting stuff happened.

    9/10.

Seeing the story develop and the character relationships, it was all just well done. A good amount of action and some choices that were genuinely thought provoking.

Episode 1 did run relatively well for me on PC but Episode 2 ran even better so I was very glad about that.

My only gripes are that it was a little short (that said I don't think it necessarily hindered the episode). I would have just preferred it to have been longer, perhaps have more interaction with Vicki Vale for example. Not a huge complaint and I did see others mention before I had played it that there was an absence of music where you would think there would be some, even if it was just quiet in the background. That's a shame really because I think Jared Emerson-Johnson is a brilliant composer and would hope that he gets to have his music used as frequently as possible. The fight scene with the cat and the bat in the bar definitely redeemed that though.

  • to be honest, choices in this game are pretty easy for me to pick, I hope that when we will be closer to end we will have to make more difficult choices

9.5/10 The episode was well written, the pacing was great (one of the few times I think having a shorter episode worked in the episode's

Holy Hell, that was one hell of a ride! Everything about this episode was great. It was emotional, intense and overall thought provoking. Even I was questioning myself about Bruce's father which had me in a corner and I would have never thought about it. Penguin farther proved that he was more awesome than we expected and I'm really digging this "revolutionary" version of him rather than the typical one we have been getting before. The fight scenes have improved a lot over EP1 and I'm really digging the relationship with Catwoman, also, the choices in this episode (especially the last one) are very difficult, and that's a lot considering this is a Batman story, so that farther shows how Telltale outdone themselves with this episode, so a big thumbs up from me to you, Telltale.

Now to the cons, I have two main issues with this episode. First, the performance, while it's significantly better than EP1, it still runs like shit, it runs at 25-30 FPS at best and 10 at worst, which I still don't know why, my specs clearly should run this game at a consistent 50-60 FPS according to their recommendations, but for some reason it runs like horseshit. Telltale better start working hard on that.
Now my second issue is Solomon Grundy (Blockbuster), the likable thing about him is that he's just like Hulk, but a goon too (actually, Hulk is a ripoff of him from what I heard), he has personality and a good one at that, but I don't know, this time he acts like he's just a muscle with no personality, maybe because the situation right now doesn't demand his rage, but I would really like to see him rage in the future. Other than those two issues above, I'd be just nitpicking.

So overall, this episode outdone the first one in every aspect, and if they keep it like that for the rest of the season, they have a pretty big chance at redefining the Batman mythos once more. In the end, this episode gets a 9.5/10 from me, if not for the issues mentioned above, it would have gotten a solid 10, and this probably one of the highest ratings I have ever given to a Telltale episode.

  • edited September 2016

Blockbuster and Solomon Grundy are two different characters and Blockbuster is actually a kind of rip off of the Hulk since Hulk was first introduced in 1962 while Blockbuster was first introduced in 1965.

  • 6,5
    -No Detective work.
    -Framerate issues.
-Sometimes the characters were not responding properly to my decisions.
-The story is going into a kinda predictable path.
+The dialogue is felling natural for this universe.

  • Oh, didn't notice that, sorry!

Not perfect, and still a little wonky, but so good it doesn't matter.

Everything off about episode one was addressed in some way and improved on.

Great story and choices. I had to really think about the last decision. Overall, one of the best Telltale episodes I've played.
