Marvel and Capcom characters will duke it out in a new crossover fighting game coming to consoles next year. Multiple sources tell Polygon that Marvel vs. Capcom 4 is currently in development and slated for release sometime in 2017.
Capcom will unveil Marvel vs. Capcom 4 this week alongside Sony’s PlayStation Experience event, we’ve been told, where the Capcom Cup 2016 Street Fighter 5 tournament will be held.
Fans of the series should expect Marvel vs. Capcom 4's roster of Marvel characters to draw strongly from the cinematic universe that Marvel Studios has popularized — and has full control over — during the past decade. That means fighting game fans will more likely see characters plucked from The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy films, and not from properties like the X-Men. Expect to see superheroes like Ant-Man and Groot make appearances, with characters of mutant origin — think Wolverine and Magneto — sitting out this entry.
YASSSS!!!!

As long as Spider-Man is in this game, I'm good.
He's in the MCU as of Civil War, so I wouldn't see why not.
JESUS FUCK. THANK YOU BASED CAPCOM
EDIT: On that note, if Chuck Greene isn't in the game I'm gonna cry.
EDIT: nvm
Capcom made Street Fighter, not Mortal Kombat
Oh okay. Sometimes I can't tell the difference.
Turns out the game is not a PS4 exclusive as was previously rumored. It's a bit of a bummer that the game is only 2v2, but I'm still looking forward to it.
So jazzed. Zero was cool and all, but holy crap did I ever wish I could play as X in MvC3. The costume was just not enough.
Am I the only person pretty ticked at this? DC has Injustice which manages just fine in creating an excellent roster of characters without the need to throw dozens of Mortal Kombat types into the mix. Yet if I want a solid Marvel fighting game experience which is modern I am AGAIN going to have to see half the roster wasted on Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Megaman and franchises I don't know or care about, all because whiney Capcom fanboys would have a hissy fit if they didn't have another Marvel vs Capcom game.
Marvel fans DESERVE a solo Marvel fighting game equal to that of DC and Netherealm's Injustice, and it's damn time we get one. I suppose having an Infinity Gem system and 2v2 is nice but if I'm going to have to spend most of the Story Mode thinking 'Who the hell is Strider Hyru and Frank West and why should I care why they're fighting Ultron and Thanos when I could be playing Ms Marvel and Lady Thor instead' it's just going to tick me off.
I just hope this latest round of idiocy can at least lead to a solo Marvel fighting game on consoles, because we shouldn't wait another decade for one when Marvel and Capcom have ANOTHER inevitable fallout or people keep bitching about the lack of X-Men and Fantastic Four characters whilst basically making the thing another EVO tourney nonsense fest.
Insanity starts around 1:00
Also seeing theories that the Big Bad is Ultron infected with Sigma virus...I'm further intrigued if true
Did you ever think that maybe, just maybe, this game wasn't created for you and you alone, and instead created for fans of the series? And that they don't need a game to tailor to your every needs? To complain about Marvel Vs Capcom 4 not being a Marvel only game is... I'm just gonna say it, that's ridiculous.
Yes you are.
Thats your problem. Either deal with it or don't buy the game.
I don't want to deny Capcom fans their chance to play as their characters, but Marvel hasn't had a solid fighting game by themselves on consoles in years, and sure as hell deserves one. Injustice proves you can make it work, so there's no excuse. Hopefully after Infinite is done Capcom can work on a standalone Marvel fighting game like they did with Children of the Atom and Marvel Super Heroes.
Assuming the roster for the Marvel side is decent and the story well handled I still might, but I know I'm not the only one who has been hoping for years for a well made standalone Marvel fighting game.
DC is owned by Warner Brothers; Warner Brothers has its own in house studio. Although Marvel is owned by Disney, I do not think Disney has an in-house studio dedicated to releasing triple A retail games (focusing instead on stuff like mobile titles), so Marvel has to reach out to other studios; Capcom with MvC Infinite, Telltale with GOTG, Insomniac for SpiderMan, etc. Likewise, they have a similar deal with Star Wars, where EA gets to make triple A retail Star Wars games since Disney does not have a large in house studio.
With all of that in consideration as well as MvC being a historied franchise, it makes sense that Marvel is hopping straight into MvC instead of a solo Marvel fighting game.
That's fair. I would also really like a Marvel only fighting game. But I also really love MvC anyway so it doesn't bug me too much.
I think as long as there's the chance of a Marvel fighting game being made, there's room for both.
That's fine, and it is true that Warner has groups like Warner Montreal to do Batman and Justice League games and such. I just hope that if Marvel is hoping to make a long term partnership with Capcom that their next project should try to be a Marvel only game. That or make a deal with a group like Arc Systems (who make Guilty Gear games) or Namco (Tekken) to make one.
I'm Super Excited for this game plus it has Megaman X
