Anyway, who cried when Jyn Erso and the entire Rogue One Squad died?

Also, am I the only one that wants a sequel to Rogue One rather than The Force Awakens? No? Just me?
I didn't cry (only LotR movies are capable to make me cry everytime ), but it was quite devastating. Especially K2 (can't remember the whole name, don't kill me pls), Jyn and Cassian dying. Those three were the most developed of the characters in the squad, the others we never really learn much about. Overall it was a good movie though.
Yeah, I predicted some of the Rogue One squad dying but I never expected Jyn and the other guy to die.
Like what the fuck, that's a main character right there! This movie is honestly the darkest Star Wars film I've ever seen.
I enjoy this movie. Although I didn't love the characters as much as I did with the characters from the Force Awakens, it was still a good movie.
And every scene that Darth Vader was in it was pure gold of awesomeness.
K-2SO
You know, when I saw Jyn and the other guy kneeling on the sand preparing for their demise, I thought that a ship would come out of nowhere to save them both until I saw them get taken by the explosion.
Alright, thanks
So basically they ruined the entire movie by not doing this with the story?
Despite that I'm still convinced. I mean characters have survived worse in Star Wars before so, this can still likely happen to an extent. =3
I'd prefer a Prequel considering they're... kinda dead :c
"The Force Awakens" deserves same ending.
Did'nt even know this movie was out .
So...those last couple of minutes...
...Darth Vader is cool.
If anything that last couple of minutes with Darth Vader was just so awesome that I felt it was worth seeing the movie.
I mean, damn, he was at his most brutal and terrifying in this movie.
Seriously, it just makes the epic duel between Luke and Vader in Empire all the more terrifying in Luke's shoes because now we know Luke is going up against a real monster bent on destroying anything in its path.
I was shocked on Space ip man dead
I really liked it. Was not expecting them to actually kill of the entire cast, I was sure that at least Jyn Erso would survive but nope. Good on them for doing that. Also that Vader scene at the end was just orgasmic!
haven't seen it, but yeah, if it's set in between 1-3 & 4-6, they have to kill everyone that didn't make an appearance in 4-6. Naturally.
I wouldn't say have to. Sure, it could be expected that they'd kill off at least most of them, but it's not like someone couldn't have survived and just not take part in the things that happened in 4-6. It's an entire galaxy after all, and the movies basically just follow Luke, Leia and Han.
Just come out the cinema. It was amazing, loved it
From a plot POV, I'm glad they had the guts to kill the main characters, I didn't think they would kill them all but I'm glad they did. I found Vader's castle on Mustafar (the same planet he was burnt on) pretty interesting and loved the scene there. I might be alone on this but I didn't like The Force Awakens but really liked Rogue One.
I found the CGI Tarkin and Leia distracting but other than that I was pretty happy with it.
Just saw this film. Heavy Spoilers here to be honest.
I used to be a fan of Star Wars, until I found something considerably better, Mobile Suit Gundam. This film... this film as restored some of the confidence in the Star Wars franchise I had lost since i became an adult. Imperial Officers acting like competitors for prestige. Commanders at a base that is ultra secure pausing in disbelief the base is under attack, just like real people would. Imperial Soldiers acting human, a few jokes, and random chitchat going on among them, instead of faceless lackeys with guns. Rebels, oh the Rebels, no longer portrayed as White knights, but a band of resistance fighters, saboteurs, assassins, partisans, etc. Which many openly admit they had to do horrible things during their lives fighting the Empire.
The Battles. OH MY GOD the Battles, something I had missed, something they did so well in the older films with The Battle of Hoth, and the Endor Space battle, something missing from the prequels with their all CGI crap fest, and even Force Awakens battles were... crap. I mean Force Awakens with it's Jedi X-Wing pilot who could shoot down two dozen Tie Fighters with his eyes closed pissed me off so badly in Force Awakens that the director JJ Abrams needs to be taken to Trump tower and thrown off the roof. Seeing a AA Tower do it's job, seeing rebel pilots crash into random objects, seeing Tie Fighters actually being a threat. Seeing Death Troopers going 1 to 1 with average rebel soldiers. Seeing a rebel soldier who was wounded, show up dead in a later clip, implying he died off camera. I loved it.
This film had everything I loved about Star Wars as a child, but taken seriously. This is easily the most serious Star Wars film ever made. When I mean serious I don't mean mature, blood/guts type stuff, but the way people are portrayed. Then Darth Vadar showed up, and I watched as part of the rebel fleet gets wiped from the galaxy with a single Star Destroyer.... i put my fist to my palm and said "FINALLY!" The Empire the franchise has always needed, the one that the rebels had a reason to fear, not laugh at.
Plus, that Republic Hammerhead Cruiser from KOTOR ramming a Dead in the Water Star Destroyer made me so giddy. lol
What I really loved, is that they didn't actually show any of the main cast die. Implying the possibility they could have survived. They were all caught in explosions, which implies they died, but also doesn't mean absolutely that they died. Literally, watch it again, one took a single blast bolt, but still could of faintly been alive, the rest were caught in explosions. The main death star blast was away from the base meaning only the shockwave would hit the base, which again implies they died but isn't absolute.
Lets put this bluntly. I came out of Force Awakens shrugging my shoulders going meh. I came out of this film excited, and happy. Maybe Disney will get the hint.
You're not alone, many people who didn't care for Force Awakens prefer Rogue One. Everyone is all over the place with this film.
Great post, agreed with you a lot
I really did like the scene when they show that Rebel soldier leaning against the corridor wall dead. I don't really know much of the character's names yet. But the Monk felt it, as he was standing right next to that dead rebel. What was more interesting was it was the same rebel who tried to drag another rebel soldier who fell, wounded, and in turn himself became wounded by one of the death troopers, and limped his way into the corridor with the Monk and Heavy weapons guy. It added such a human element that thinking about it now almost makes me cry.
It's those kind of elements that Star Wars badly lacks. The way they presented it, then showing the Monk acting as though he realized the man was dead, that its likely one of the reasons the Monk choose to walk out into the open to pull the switch. That sense of everyone is going to die, he is likely going to die, this man next to me just died. It will be for nothing if no one goes out there and pulls that switch. How they can tie in one random rebel soldier into why that main character made that decision without using a single "Word." That is good directing.
Mobile Suit Gundam 0083 had a similar scene. (Spoiler for that of course) There was a scene on that animation that had a band of soldiers attacking a warship and it's escorts. This band was trying to protect the antagonist so he could escape. Later they showed after the fighting was over the antagonist escaping into space in a shuttle holding a diamond in his hand. The same diamond that was in the office of the commanding officer that lead that charge, implying that officer gave the antagonist that diamond as a symbol that even if they're gone that they are with him. It's good directing like that, in which I love. That Soldier, on that scene in Rogue One, reminded me of that kind of good directing. Were something so simple, can be so brilliant.
Dat Vader scene at the end though......
Nerdgasam
True Nerdgasam was the Hammerhead Cruiser from The Knights of the Old Republic. That weird diamond shaped ship from Rebels TV series also showed up as part of the Rebel fleet in the film. The Hammerhead Cruiser was pure LOLs when I saw it, and they didn't hide it, threw it right in front of people, even named it by name. I also loved those two Scoundrels from A New Hope, the two who tried to start a Bar fight with Luke Skywalker in Tatoonie also showed up. lol
I like how Jyn's first blaster was a Luger P08 with silver air cooling style tube mounted on the barrel. LOL
in movies, everything must tie together. throwing in a scene for no reason doesn't happen. it's how to predict tings. if you ever see a little detail for no reason, it'll come up in the end. "guy picks up shirt button for no reason" at the end he MacGeyvers something with it. poor example, but screenwriting 101.
It was better than that mad-lib of the plot of a new hope jj abrams churned out. I didn't like the cg Tarkin but that's my only gripe. I pretty much expected it to end the way it did, but it was still done well. The first Vader scene I found myself thinking 'oh this is just crybaby Anakin' but the second Vader scene was legit as f.
Sure, but what I'm saying is that this movie could've tied in with the OT without all the new characters dying - one or two of them could've gone to hiding for example. I'm not saying it's a problem that they all died though, I actually quite liked this approach.
More easter eggs was that on the intercom while they are at the Yavin Base you can hear them saying 'General Syndulla please report to (can't remember where they said report to)'. Hera Syndulla is the leader of the Ghost Crew from Star Wars Rebels.
Also the absolutely biggest easter egg is the character of Saw Guerrera was originally from The Clone Wars catoon series. He was part of the original groups that the Jedi started to train to fight so these Rebel groups could begin fighting the Separatists themselves when they tried to overtake their world and wouldn't have to rely on the Jedi to come running to their rescue all the time.
That is the very earliest origins of the Rebel Alliance. The small groups of people that the Jedi began training to fight so they could take on the Separatist on their own. Once the Jedi were destroyed and the Empire took over those groups just switched their focus from the Separatists to the Empire.
And the Ghost first appears just to the left of the Hammerhead Cruiser when the Rebel fleet comes out of hyper space. Hoping fans would likely see both at the same time perhaps.
Damn i love this movie! Just watched this tonight and i can say i'm totally amazed. Maybe it sounds weird, but i loved all the protagonists (Yup.. Jyn, Cassian, K2-S0, Chirrut, Baze, Bodhi, all of em!) Better than The Force Awakens' character, in my opinion! Very sad to see them all go, but it was needed to close the plothole and to advance to the next movie.
Yeah with it ending probably within an hour or so of Ep. IV beginning they would have needed to explain why none of these characters appeared in Ep. IV and why there was no mention of them at all in the OT. You would think that if any of them had survived they would have become pretty prominent figures around the Rebellion and definitely would have gotten some screen time.
So the best way to explain why they aren't in the OT at all is simply to say they all died.
Easily a contender for the best Star Wars movie since the Empire Strikes Back.
The movie isn't perfect though. The first act was all over the place. The flashbacks, the movements between all the planets, it didn't work out that wells Saw Gerrara just staying there and not trying to escape Jedha also really put me off.
The second act was better, but still had the same kind of issues.
The third act was amazing. I really liked seeing the entire Battle of Scarif. The space part really was great. The Hammerhead corvette part was really clever and unique. I'm glad that those ships, which were reintroduced into canon by Rebels made an appearance. The MC75 cruiser was a cool new ship too, I also liked Admiral Raddus, blue Admiral Ackbar. It was nice to see some of the pilots that were also in the Battle of Yavin, neat touch. Also, when the Devastator jumped out of hyperspace and just destroyed those ships that hit its hull, I got shivers. Real epic stuff. The ground part felt as realistic as it could be, and it was enjoyable to see all the things going on and the AT-ACTs and things. The U-Wings were neat. Good battle, really something. I hope Episode 8 has one of these.
Most of the characters were good. I liked the Rogue One squad quite a bit, especially Cassian Andor, K-2SO, Bodhi Rock, and Chirrut Imwe. They all their moments and I cared about them. They had some pretty cool weapons and action scenes.
CGI Tarkin was not that bad. I mean you could clearly tell that it was computer generated but he felt real and he wasn't just an over-glorified cameo. I liked his scenes with Krennic. Leia on the other hand wasn't as good but she didn't do much so it didn't really matter.
Anyway, the Death Troopers were pretty badass, although I wish they did more. Director Orson Krennic, sexiest man alive, was very interesting. I kind felt bad for him at times, he seemed to be compensating for something. He was my kind of bastard. It's a shame, but no surprise that he ended up as he did. His blaster, the DT-29, was also really cool. So was his outfit, and his ship, and his everything. I might change my profile picture to his handsome face.
Wow this is a long post. One last thing, the most important thing I haven't mentioned was the Vader scenes. His castle on Mustafar and scene with Krennic was pretty good, but him confronting the rebel soldiers trying to flee was incredible. Horrifiying, it really did do justice to the character after what Revenge of the Sith showed us. I was really hoping we would get a scene like that, and I was not disappointed. Single best scene on the movie. It was tense, it was awesome, and just seeing the lightsaber light up and his figure out was scary. Kudos on them for adding that in a film that would draw a lot of kids. Same with a lot of other scenes, being okay with killing characters.
8.4/10 - a great film that's faults are evident but its strengths are so much more prevalent.
the sequel is 'A New Hope'
i thought the ending made that clear...
where's that "WAT" meme when i need it lmao
it was obvious to me that they were all gonna die before i watched it.
but i didn't read any theories, articles, or speculation videos for Rogue One.
i completely forgot about whether or not they're all gonna die, and when it happened, i was a little sad.
Chirrut is now my favorite Star Wars Character, him taking down that TIE fighter with his bow, easily my favorite scene.
and of course Vader's scene was amazing.
EDIT: i loved it, 5/5 stars.
EDIT 2: i still like TFA a little more, though.
That 'The force is with me and i am one with the force' scene is amazing too. Awesome movie!
Still can't believe that WALT DISNEY of all companies made a film with a scene of Darth Vader brutally slaughtering rebels in a hallway.
I am still wondering if Chirrut was Force-sensitive. Sure, he may be amazingly good with his hearing. But he really seems like he is able to use the force in some way, When he asked if Cassian have the look of a killer, to me, it sounds like he is able to sense his killing intent.
If Chirrut had the force and have been trained as a Jedi, he would have been an amazing Jedi Master.
