Little help: Which game should I get next?

edited August 2009 in General Chat
Hi,

I just wanted some input from other people on which game season I should buy next. I bought Tales of Monkey Island and I LOVE it so far!

I thought Sam and Max would be a natural next choice since it was created by Steve Purcell, but so far it's not very enjoyable.. I remember downloading the first ep demo when it came out and getting bored with it, then I downloaded the free ep: Abe Lincoln must Die and was again a bit diappointed (although I found Hugh Bliss hillarious!). Is season two any funnier? And is it worth starting with season 1 or should I just go straight to 2?

I tried Strongbad afterwards and it simply wasn't my thing.. so then I tried Wallace and Grommit and was pleasantly surprised. The only thing is the demo is a bit too short to get a good grasp of the game. Are the puzzles overly simplistic? I ask because it seems the most kiddish of all the Telltale games. Anyways, I'd love some help deciding!

Sam and Max Season Two is a huge improvement on Season One, but I love Season One and it's definitely worth playing, but I'd recommend starting with season 2 if you didn't like what you saw of season one. Wallace and Gromit is great too, but I personally prefer Sam and Max.

Yeah, I just played the demo to Ice Station Santa and it was better than the season 1 demos I played. Mind sharing why you like Sam and Max over Wallace and Grommit?

Also does anyone know why Wallace and Grommit only has 4 eps while every other game has 5 for the same price?

I just prefer the humor in Sam and Max.

About the price of W&G, you can get Wallace and Gromit for about $29 for the full season if you buy an episode and then upgrade rather than just buying the full season outright. I don't know why they chose to only do 4 episodes with W&G, but they are still very good and well worth the price.

I honesty don't think TTG have much say about the storyline, since they have to deal pretty much with what the Aardman wanted. So, if the consensus was a 4-episode series, so be it. It's better to have 4 episodes than not having any at all!

If you like the humor of www.homestarrunner.com then definitely Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People.

Of those 3 I would stil prefere Season 1 of sam & max. These games are best to be played in order. Even in Ice Station Santa you will get spoilers on Season 1.

I'd go for W&G. It looks great and plays just like one of the movies. I found episode 1 more difficult that ToMI ep1.

I'd say go with the setting and/or characters you like best. Episodes within seasons differ from each other too much for any generalizations to matter. All the seasons have their strengths and I don't think any of the demos are very good at showing this.

I'd say go for Wallace & Gromit, the humour's.. not better but different, to Sam & Max and maybe it'll gel with you more?

But Sam & Max is still absolutely amazing, and I suggest you really try to push your way through the series if you're not quite "getting it" yet. You'll thank me later :P

Endure through S&M Season 1. The final couple of episodes of Season 2 is the best thing TellTale have done thus far and you really need to have finished Season 1 to understand it all. Plus Season 2 is just better overall.

Thank you for all the replies! I really couldn't decide so I just bought one ep of Wallace and Grommit. It was pretty good, flowed better than the S&M games but now that Tales of Monkey Island Ep2 is out this all doesn't matter anymore, I LOVE TALES OF MONKEY ISLAND!
