Could the new season not actually be Season 3?

If this game is actually Season 3 why not call it that? Could it be that this new "season" is not actually Season 3 but a spin-off? All of the popular game web sites are calling it " The New Frontier" and so are Telltale employees. Is this why they are getting a lot backclash from fans? Cause they are afraid to say this new season is actually a spin-off?

    It seems like, at the very least, that Telltale is trying not to press it as season 3.

    I hope its a spinoff as well. Been really down that Clem isn't the main focus this round. But that means we have to wait even longer if this isn't season 3.

    If it's season 3 I'm fine with it I just hope in season 4 we'll actually play as Clem, so I'll have an incentive to buy it.
