She acts older because she has had to grow up faster...much like child soldiers in Africa...it actually is interesting I am thinking about writing up a large post about it and how TellTale is actually getting Clementine right...all the way down to her view on her accidental killing of Eli. If Clementine lives into adulthood, her values will be so different to what we expect out of a person. She really needs a group.
If this is the last season she will ever be in I kind of wish she would have been at least 18 in this one, she already seems and acts way older than she is. Even in season 2. And it would make a lot more sense with the situations she gets into and how smart she is.

She is 13, the people at telltale even said this when they first released the teaser trailer earlier this year.
