An idea for Telltale....

One of the hardest things when you are making a game or an animated film is character design. If you do not like the look of the character...then you are not likely to be invested in the game or movie. How about they take a page from real life....create a stable of well designed virtual actors. Clementine is a good person in TWD...what if the Model and voice actress was used as an assassin in GoT...hooded and sinister..just like in movies you see actors....they could make a large amount of these virtual players and use them in any number of ways. Am I nuts...or what do you guys think?

  • I don't know, I think it wouldn't work for me, it would take me out of it, sort of break the illusion. Or it could be exact opposite, and I'd react like when they're using the same voice actors.
    plays Telltales Batman
    Catwoman starts to talk
    Me: "OMG it's Fiona!"

I like the idea. Games like L.A. Noire & Untl Dawn were awesome to play specifically because of virtual acting, even though I like the stories for both games as well. When I saw Aaron Staton on Mad Men, I yelled COLE! Same with Rami Malek from Mr. Robot as Josh in Until Dawn.

Edit: I think this is what you meant?

  • Interesting concept, but I don't think it will work for many people, they see Rhys in batman and they're like OMG A CROSSOVER!! Not really but it may break the immersion.
I don't know, I think companies try not to do that because they are able not to. While in real life they sometimes have to.

PLEASE TELLTALE MAKE AN ACE VENTURA GAME!

  • Eh, I don't know. It can be hard to get immersed when you've seen the same face a million times.

It's a little easier with voices because a VA's voice doesn't always sound exactly the same. Although I know it's the same VA, I never think "hey it's Kenny" when I play The Wolf Among Us and Beast comes on screen. Even playing Batman, I don't really think of Rhys and Fiona when I see Bruce and Selina talking in a scene, because one game has a lighter, upbeat tone and the other is dark and gritty. If they used the likenesses of Troy Baker and Laura Bailey for both games, however, I may not feel the same way.

Overall, I don't think it's a bad idea, but I just don't think it would be a good idea for Telltale, where their characters and plots are their strong suit.
