What do you think about these statistics?
I'm talking about This
Personally, i was surprised by the amount of book titles published this year, seems like a rather small amount.
And the fact there is about 3x more overweight people than undernourished people.
Environment tab and Energy tab are also quite painful to look at. We use 4x more energy from non-renewable sources than renewable ones, and we will run out of oil in about 46 years.
Cigarettes smoked today count is also crazy. The amount of money people waste on that.
And honestly, i also expected a higher suicide count.
Basically, this is my reaction:

Maybe let's start from not spending so much time on our computers just because we are too scared of the outside world.
Lol, nah, who am i even kidding ;D
Yeah, i understand when people use their phones when they are forced to be somewhere (like in school - if you don't really want to socialize, that's fine with me), but i don't really understand why people 'hang out' with each other if they end up just looking at their phones all the time.
Don't worry, we are getting to the point that only genocide will save us all, and likely it will happen because of our own actions, not because of some mad man with a funny mustache. Something will go wrong, system will break down, only has to for a few weeks, and likely billions will starve.
My bets are - nuclear war or a deadly pathogen
We're only 6 days in. With the suicide thing december will have a massive spike I bet
Yes, that's true, but i was rather talking about a low percentage towards total death count this year, not just about it being a small number
Same goes for book titles, i looked at the computers produced this year count, and oh boy, isn't that number large
Whoah are you serious?
Good lord.
The more time I spend watching those statistics, the more uneasy I feel.
But hey, on a good note, amount of people with no access to a safe drinking source and undernourished people slowly decreases
The fact that people are starving due to the damage we do in the environment sickens me.
And gee, didn't know there were so many overweight and obese people.
Also, hate to be the one to say it, but population growth needs to stop soon. We can't have any more people living in congested cities and we can't be destroying more of our environment to feed ourselves.
EDIT: It doesn't help that I literally just saw a McDonalds ad...Literally stop advertising your restaurant McDonalds, I don't want your "food," your beef-flavored fries or your environment-destroying hamburgers.
Around 2100 population growth should stop, and it should be more or less stable, at least that's what i heard.
This video explains it pretty well
But yeah, i was surprised by amount of overweight people as well. Overweight people make about 1/3 of the population.
That's pretty soon, then.
They won't count everything that fast. These stats are unreliable.
They obviously aren't 100% precise, but that doesn't mean they are unreliable. Data they show is more or less correct.
Most of those are either scary or depressing, especially the racio of malnourished and overweight people.
The ~46 years left until the end of oil also leaves me wondering what will the world look like once the penury starts. I hope it will be an occasion to massively promote public transport worldwide but unfortunately it's not likely to happen.
The stats are neato though, thanks for sharing them!
The "years left for oil/gas/coal" statistics are kind of suspicious and misleading. Peak oil and the rate of resource depletion is pretty hotly contested in academia. They should at least cite sources.
But yeah, this shit is kind of scary.
and what's the amount of weed smoked?
Well, the sources for natural gas and oil are there, you will only have to google coal if you're really interested
I doubt nuclear war, but a major global war will likely cause world trade to collapse. Entire nations on this planet do not produce enough food to feed themselves, and they'd likely be hit the hardest in such a scenario. Decease and Starvation was the biggest killer in both WWI and WWII. Population is many times larger now than then, so instead of tens of millions, one can imagine hundreds of millions of not billions this time around if it happens.
Cool, didn't see that.
"If consumed at current rates" means we have more than 46 years left. As the amount of oil dwindles, it will be harder to get good oil up, which will make it more expensive than alternatives. People mostly only use oil now because it's cheaper than the alternatives. When the alternatives get cheaper than the oil, people will switch.
That's right.
Most of those 'terrifying' stats will be less and less terrifying as time goes on. They are still really neat, because they show how fucked we will be if we continue to just fuck around instead of trying to improve our situation.
Well yeah, but i was talking about something that could put a end to humanity, not just collapse the economy.
Answer is Javier
Honestly I don't believe in many statistics as most are just propaganda bs.
Idk why, but I felt satisfaction while watching people getting born every second. That's just... so precious.
I felt concern, because for each person that dies, more than 2 babies are born. Which means we will get a lot of new mouths to feed hella fast.
