A lot of the comments that Ive read over the past few years, even in this topic, make me sure that racism would never end for any reason. People are too willing to wallow in their ignorance and hate. Its just how people are, unfortunately.
That was a lot of words to get out the idea "would racism decrease if prople viewed each other in a more scientific manner"! It could decrease the instances, sure, seeing as study provides very few differences between the "races", especially on a cognitive basis. That said, it's very easy to use poor scientific reasoning to justify racism, such as the following: everyone knows that diverging groups produce different traits (a fundamental premise of the theory of evolution), so it is reasonable that people from different races, being separated and diverging, have developed different traits, including cognitive capabilities, which explains why, by and large, white civilizations today are so much better than other civilizations. The entire basis of Social Darwinism is grounded in scientific rational, which can be applied to race rather easily.
You serious? You don't think that discrimination and murder happen in other species? The only reason you're even partly right in that assessment is that (by and large) animals cannot entertain the thought of "murder" in the sense that it is morally wrong, at least not in the capacity we can. I'd say that makes us better than them, because we're actively trying to prevent it.
The only way to get rid of any form of discrimination, murder and other cruel behaviors is to get rid of homo sapiens as a whole. And to be … morehonest, that would be actually the best for everyone. For Earth's flora and fauna, for Earth itself and for the universe as a whole.
Maybe. I'd love it if more people didn't attach stereotypes to skin color, because they knew it made absolutely no sense. That they appreciated skin color only for what it is physiologically-- an adaptation of melanin production in response to living latitudes of high and low sunlight on a gradient. And adaptation that attempts to balance a population's need for protection from the sun while allowing for essential vitamin D synthesis. And that's it. Absolutely no bearing on intelligence, ability, attitudes, etc. The human race is one species.
But the human brain is quirky and prone to irrational thinking and cognitive distortions. If there's anything else that is 'scientific' and pertinent to the racism issue (and other hot button topics), it's the tricks of the mind, which are insidious and many of us don't realize we engage in it regularly. I.e. filtering, overgeneralizations, personalizing events, and of course biases, i.e. confirmation bias, availability heuristic, and other phenomenons that make up a murky brew that is an individual's perception. It takes work to notice and catch yourself, but the first step is being aware that it's happening at all.
Not a problem anymore? XD Do you live under a rock?
Racism became very strong again over the last few years. Hell, the USA is the prime exa… moremple. Their new president itself is a big racist idiot and police vs. black men has been on the news on a daily basis.
"That was a lot of words to get out the idea" Yes and that is due to me being a fan of debates.
"Study shows little difference between the races."
"That explains why White civilizations are so much better than the rest."
OK I'm completely lost here. What are you talking about ? Asian civilizations are fairly advanced and all races bring ideas to the table.
Knowledge is a common ground that is meant for all. Native Americans taught the puritans how to grow crops and to survive winters. Puritans taught them about writing, written education from England and various other things.
Booker Washington taught fellow Blacks the benefits of the Republican party.
Sequiou created the Cherokee written language so that past generations would no longer be lost.

The Earth would be useless without humans
That's already enough information for me to be honest. You seem to have a similar mindset … morelike those who cause so much terror and destruction on this planet. Humans are so full of themselves. This planet was much more interesting and beautiful in my opinion, before this species started to enslave and slaughter everything.
And if "intelligent life" means that it is similar to humans, then I only hope that you are right and there aren't more of creatures like us anywhere out there.
Notice the last part you paraphrased came after "That said, it's very easy to use poor scientific reasoning to justify racism, such as the following:"
No, all races don't bring something to the table. Individuals from any race can bring something to the table. An important qualification.
Though I would say that labeled "white civilizations" are usually better, in general, than most other labeled "race civilizations", but for vastly different reasons than because "white people did it".

Sadly, I'm afraid that's one that seems to always be on my reading list but just haven't gotten to. I think the 'fast' part of it is such a fascinating topic so I'll have to carve out some time for it now that you've mentioned it
United States is made up of various races that each brings their own beliefs to the table. What you say is simply untrue with White Culture being superior to others. In history, Italians, Spaniards and Asians have been shown to possess a high level of intelligence and war tactics. Leonardo Da Vinci was probably the smartest human to ever live from the last 1,000 years.
If all are viewed as equal that means that there is no division. There are ignorant people of every race, yet the race itself isn't a lost cause.
Dwight Eisenhower had a Irish African mom and an English dad. He had strong genetics and possessed a high level of intelligence. He spent much of his time making Blacks and Whites equal with education being the driving force.

I haven't finished it myself (I'm about 3/4 of the way through). It's not a book that I could start reading and fall into, but it is still very interesting. The fast and slow thinking, and the interactions between the two, is extremely fascinating. It brings a lot to the table in things such as the bicameral mind theory as well, which I've been interested in recently.
Anyways, many of the things you mentioned were touched on in the book, so I thought it may be one you would be interested in if you hadn't read it already. I definitely suggest finding time!

Picking out the "smartest human" in the span of 1,000 years is nonsensical for numerous reasons. Two being people from hundreds of years ago did not have the basis to build from which we have today, and that intelligence comes in many forms and is prioritized in many ways.
The United States is made of many races, but it is labeled a "white civilization", like most of the European states.
I don't think it's untrue. Today, as specified earlier, most white civilizations are doing better than other race civilizations in terms of averaging/balancing freedoms, safeties, education, affluence, and other factors.
If all are viewed as equal that means that there is no division. There are ignorant people of every race, yet the race itself isn't a lost cause.
All people should be treated equal in an encompassing sense, I agree with that sentiment completely. But all are not equal. Who said any race was a lost cause?

Have you read Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman by chance?

Awesome, I guess.
