When did the game REALLY save?

I know how it should works:

If I see the loading circle the game save. Even Telltale describe it at the game start. Sounds so easy - but it isn't.

So many times I guit the game some seconds after the loading circle (because I want to sleep or something). (I quit the game about the game menu and then I go to the PS4 menu and then shut down the console.)

But next time I start the game it's not where I quit. Mostly it is some scenes before (around 5-10 minutes playtime).

I guess, this is not a bug. My PS4 is really fresh and the save file is not broken. No error message or something. I have also this problem on the PC. (TWD season 1 and 2.)

When did the game REALLY save?

How can I be sure the progress is saved?
