The moment Guybrush is trying to get the key from the monkey, so he tries using his tongue. I laughed so hard... Funniest thing I've seen in ages.

From tomi I'd have to say when you destroy the glass unicorns. It was just so unexpected (for me) so I laughed out loud when I heard him scream off screen :)

from all MI games probably that weird dream in mi2 with the parents and the skeletons and everything. Or something off blood island in comi, but that was more like one long feel-good moment than a lol-moment.

    Hmm there are lots:

Secret: Rubber tree! and the real three-headed monkey
MI2: The skeleton dance and the philosophical riddle with HT on Dinky Island: "Burnt sienna?"
MI3: "All right then, roll! Roll through the gates of hell!" and all the musical numbers
EMI: No stand out moments so much, but I liked the lawyer jokes and the improvised skin trampoline.
Tales: Loved seizing the ship and the D'oro the Explorer with the cursed hand whacking him one :)

    - Sí, he dejado en libertad a los prisioneros y ahora vengo por ti!... PLANCK

I love that one (I first played the spanish version of CoMI and didn´t realize that the original was in spanish until i played it).

You can see this scene here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E28WrhpTzQA

    LMAO .. good video!!!!

MI1, the entire game! But especially the rubber tree, and of course "look behind you, a three headed monkey!" (before it was re-used to death)

MI2, the skeleton dance, and prolly sticking that jerk Largo

MI3, Ventriloquism anyone? I'm going off memory here but:

Fozzy, can't you help but feel we're... all just a bunch of monkeys?

Do you mean in Darwinian sense?

No, Fozzy, I mean in the quite literal sense.

MI4, the paradox was pretty awesome. Ya know what I'm talking about, right?
  • edited August 2009
MI2: When Guybrush is digging up Largo's dead relative.

The whole scene was quite dramatic which is why I think I was caught so off guard when Guybrush's trousers fell down:D

Wouldn't say it's my fave moment overall though, not sure I could choose! I'm just fond of the series as a whole:)

    I have a few:

    SMI
Guybrush not getting into the right position before the cannon goes off is pretty funny. And how Herman Toothrot is so lonely, he's happy to chat away to a flaming (male) backside.

    MI2
The acquisition of Marco Largo LaGrande's bone was unexpected and funny. I was also really surprised by the detail of the underwater scenes. Did anyone try staying submerged for ten minutes?

    CMI
I think the changes of atmosphere were great. Although the fort battle was supposed to be dangerous, due to the music and it being the first chapter, it felt really easy and safe. Next, you go round a too-quiet pirate port, desparately looking for anyone who might know anything about lifting curses. Barely a soul in sight, but the ones that are point you in the right direction. Once you get talking to the Voodoo Lady, suddenly the game feels fun, lively and interesting. On Blood Island, it feels really sleepy (despite the noise you hear at the beginning of the map screen). This is well contrasted by the desolate creepiness of Skull Island then the well-lit, dangerous lair of the devious, cruel and menacing duo that be King Andre and Cruff. There's another golden monkey moment for me - the escape from the smuggler's cave.

    EMI
The Mystes o' Thyme Marsh was pretty cool (shame it was so simple and predictable once you got to Pegnose's house) and WHAT an idea to make a gigantic Ultimate Insult on the flagship island! I still think that that in-game movie is brilliant, comparable with the opening to Full Throttle.

I suppose that you have missed that one (it isn´t required to see that joke in order to complete the game). You can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENeRZEnn2Fc

BTW I see that no one has mentioned the insult swordfighting yet... strange.

Yes that was rather Sierra-like and out of place but still made me smile. The swordfighting wasn't really a moment.

The realization of Stan's continuity between MI2 and CMI was one of my favorite moments. It was so great to see that unexpectedly paid off after all those years.

The beginnings and ends of Monkey 1 and Monkey 2 are still my favorite parts (The Three trials, the final bits on LeChuck's ship and Guybrush Kicks Butt, The Largo Embargo, and Dinky Island/Underground Tunnels).

I know that was either supposed to be saturated in sarcasm or an attempt at being a troll, but I actually thought LeChuck chasing you round some tunnels with a voodoo doll was rather fitting and wouldn't dream of changing it if I had the opportunity (but I would change the ending and remove the whole brother thing). The Melee island alley was a strange but nice place to go to assemble the doll without fear of LeChuck interrupting.

Something that always puzzles me about Stan's reintroduction in CMI is when he tells Guybrush that he's "been dead." I never understood if that was supposed to be taken at face value or if it was just a throwaway line. Is Stan a zombie? I never thought of him as such.

I think he was referring to being buried alive as opposed to actually dead

That's funny because I loved the Three Trials, Largo Embargo and most of the Underground Tunnels but detested the reprise of Melee Island (so empty), Dinky Island (again, devoid of life with only the parrot to help and an annoying pointless HT cameo for company) and the whole brother thing.

Maybe it's the love for the first chapter of the first two games that set me up for liking LotSN (Davey's quests).
  • edited August 2009
Considering the title of the thread, perhaps I should give my favourite part of LotSN:

    The idol puzzle!

Similar idea to navigating LeChuck's Fortress in MI2 but with an inventory add-on and improvisation at the end. De Singe's character was well-formed, well-acted (to the point of show-stealer like Davey Jones in PotC: DMC) and heated up just at the right time. I love the movie that follows too! :)
"Do you 'ave any idea what you 'ave done?"
"Talk to the hand 'cos the face 'ain't listenin'!"
    "Wait! Zat 'and..."

You're onto a winner here with me if you capitalise on that. It's a pity Winslow is such an underdeveloped character.

    whats yours?

I loved that whole back and forth. My personal favourite was the way Guybrush said (Special Edition) 'I can't believe your virility'

And for some reason in MI2 I loved when Guybrush told Wally to 'stop that annoying swinging' when he was chained up in his jail cell...it was so random and Wally seemed genuinely apologetic.
I agree the dream sequence was great, I also liked the whole Rapp Scallion thing, not because it made me laugh but it was strangely poignant the way the first thing he said after being resurrected was 'Whew! That was a close one! If I hadn't had my flame resistant apron on, I could've been killed!'

    LMAO moments:

    MI1:LeChuck punching Stan
the Grog recipe: batery acid and/or pepperoni
    Rubber tree / Sierra spoof
The electronic door used by the cannibals
    the 3 headed monkey

MI2: Checking Rapp Scalion's restaurant with the gas on
The LucasArts hints at Dinky Island
the "I am your father" finale

MI3: Walking around in tar and feathers
Guybrush using a lighter on that guy's banjo performance
One of the pirate's barber story - throwing stuff away, and then finding them again as the treasure...
    All the cannons upgrades

MI4: Ignatious Cheese / Swiss Cheese / Blue Cheese jokes
Throwing a dart to the laptop's screen
The paradox/Vortex stuff, and messing with it (using the gun, for instance)
Songs sung while on the lava tour in Monkey Island.
Herman Toothrot talking to us: "Check this guy out: I'm the one with memory loss, and he wants my help... "

    The lousy moments:
    MI1:
The navigator head stuff was not funny at all...

    MI2:
The end. Lame. Still not well explained (two kids in the park?). Gives you an WTF face.

    MI3:
The ending, again. Hated the kid stuff.

    MI4:
    Monkey Kombat.

Overall the games are very fun from begin to end (not MI4), but the things that REALLY make me laugh are:
    SoMI:
The stump joke. insert disc 9, disc 14, disc 144... HILARIOUS (removed from the CD version and SE)

    The rubber tree joke

    MI2LR:
the faces Guybrush makes thoughout the game when he does something.

the dancing monkeys in the intro... love how they totally lose control in the middle part.

    CoMI:
El Pollo Diablo!!! and the guitar-solo that follows!!!!

    Palido Domingo:
Tearing the map of his back
    gross yet hilarious!!!

the dialogue between Guybrush and Murray in the first part ("how can you see without eyes?")

    Again the stump joke... marvelous!!!

The underwater flashback on the beach of blood island.

    EfMI:
The entire game was one big joke.

    ToMI;E1:
The entire marquis-puzzle was quite funny (where your tied to a chair in his practice).

Love the line in CMI between Griswold Goodsoup and Mort when Guybrysh is playing dead.

Griswold: Well I guess thats the end of the game.

Mort: With him been the main character and all???, funny, I thought you couldn't die in LucasArts adventure games.

Griswold: Well maybe there just trying something different

There's so many, I don't think I'd be able to remember them all to list.

    Secret of Monkey Island
    + "These dogs are SLEEPING.."
+ "Love muffin!" "Sugar boots!" :D
+ When you ask LeChuck not to kill you, you can answer "I'm married with two/three children" lol
+ The storekeeper "ahoy there fancy pants!". He sounded exactly how I imagined him too.

    LeChuck's Revenge
+ Obviously the skeleton dance :p
+ Somebody said this one earlier, but the gravedigging scene where Guybrush's pants fall down XD
+ Ironically the scene that scared me away from the game for a few years when I was little; Guybrush walks to the guard for Elaine's mansion who's wearing the LeChuck costume. I was fooled, and easily scared lmao. Good thing it did scare me, the ending scene would of scarred my sensitive kiddy soul haha. I just lol everytime he starts to undress "you'll have to restrain yourself"

Curse of Monkey Island - this one's my fav, so I'll have loads
+ Pirate I Was Meant To Be.. duh ^_^
+ Guybrush's singing, particularly the Monkey In My Pocket song and um Silver's Long Johns lol
+ Minnie Goodsoup and her flirting with Guybrush. "What do you do for a living?" "Flooring inspector!" <-- funny nod to the first game, as the lookout mistakes him for one.
+ I know it doesn't work but I do go through all the insults you can give Rottingham when he's still in the barbershop. "If I was you, I'd worry about split ends".
    + MURRAY :D
+ "Whatever the (reason), it CAME.." I always make Guybrush scream hysterically as a response. "What? what? I'm not even at the scary part yet."
+ "Oooh make it stop, aaagh." How many minutes I spent torturing the grave digger with the voodoo doll ;)
+ El Pollo Diablo! The demon chicken!
    + Guybrush's "death"
+ "Pair of dimes". I click it everytime
+ I wonder how many people chat for over half an hour with LeChuck at the end of the game. Lots of fun, and interesting too.

    Escape From Monkey Island
    + MWahahahaha.. ha, ha? XD
+ Guybrush's suave voice he sometimes used "Oh? I forgot to kiss you goodbye" lol
+ Carla's drunk moment, easily amuses me
+ "This is our bedroom, oh YEAH"
+ I'm probably the only one that laughs at this, but the part where you give Guybrush the coffee so he can stay awake during Stan's speech. Just the twitching makes me giggle :o
+ Controversial I know, but I liked the cutscene where Toothrot remembers who he is.. I knew it didn't make sense, but I enjoyed the scene anyway (I did not enjoy the monkey robot tho)
    + The puppets :D

    Tales of Monkey Island
+ "I wish I was the mightiest pirate ever."
    + The parrot :p
+ "Are you ok?" "I'm fine, finish the recipe." "Do you need anything." "I said I'm fine. Finish the recipe" "Want me to get anything from the hold, I got some (pot stickers? - I badly need to stick on subtitles sometimes)." "Nooo finish the recipe!" "Why do you keep shouting at me?" "I'm not shouting, I'm projecting!"
+ Oh for goodness sake just gut him with cutlace so we can all go home! "As you wish, my love." lol.
    + "like a volcano!" XD

    You missed a lot!

MI1: "LeChuck's a bozo!" "Hey!" Lemonhead: *is impressed* "It has 'Lemonhead' written on the bottom. Exactly like one of mine!"

MI2 had spitting at Wally! How can you forget that? Or the peg leg? Or Largo wearing a pearly-white bra?Or falling through the kitchen window? Or the Phatt Guard being so easily distracted at the mansion? Omg you missed a lot...

For MI3, you forgot the death tarots being used in a dodgy poker game. "You're correct, Mr Threepwood - we cannot beat five of a kind. The question remains, however, whether or not you can beat a pair!" Gotta love it. Didn't setting off the volcano with nacho cheese tickle your fancy AT ALL?

MI4: HT looks to the camera and says "I'm the one with memory loss, and he wants my help! Heh"

TMI: "You've got violent spunk, boy! Pirate spunk!" "Ewwww!"

MI1 - the succession of doors used by the cannibals, the 'strangely-phallic object', sinking your own ship

MI2 - Largo shoving LeChuck's beard down his pants, Guybrush's occasional 4th wall facial expressions, Herman's 'philosophy' on Dinky, 'helpline' telephone in Dinky Jungle, getting the pink dress costume and the Gatekeeper's reaction, hitting the slide at Rum Roger's place, spitting on everything in the dungeon

MI3 - Mister Fossey, El Pollo Diablo, Kenny's lemonade and the health warnings plus his subsequent upgrades for your ship

MI4 - Marco Pollo & the diving competition, winding up the tourists on Jambalaya, Kicking Unusually Large Butt in the monkey-powered robot

MI5 - so far - porcelain power pirates, Marquis de Singe (everyone realises that Singe is Monkey in French right? {Le singe est disparu - Eddie Izzard sketch})
