I don't mind the reasoning behind adding a diverse cast in a game, what I care about is the purpose they are given, if they are wasted, then there was no point in having the character at all - if they actually have at least a minimal effect on the plot (such as adding even just a tiny bit of lore), then I'd be perfectly fine with them.
Fair enough. Diversity is an attractive thing to have.
I am more concerned with diversity in terms for Social Justice instead of for enh… moreancing the quality of the game. There are games that shove a woman side-character in, either because they think they're being progressive, or they are afraid of NOT putting a female character in there, or a black character, as a significant side character or the main lead.
Diversity for Social Justice is cancerous and restricts expression.
Like many here have said before, as long as it's not forced.
When making a character don't make them a woman/black/gay/etc, just so that they're a woman/black/gay/etc. Make them a character that just so happens to be a woman/black/gay/etc,
I typically don't like the Marvel way of "replace character with ethnic character because diversity" but an original thing like say Life is strange with its strong female characters or Tomb Raider with Lara Croft is great. Hell since someone brought up Mass Effect my Sheperd was a black guy. And while Sunset Overdrive wasn't a particularly good game I did like playing as this crazy Indian lady.
I only care when it's forced or in your face because its really annoying. I like my games/movies/shows/books to be historically accurate and realistic.
I honestly think this is a bit of a relative term considering some might find diversity forced and some might find it fitting or natural. Of course, it all depends on the subject matter.

I don't care about diversity, if a character is black or whatever, then I don't give a shit. Just as long as it's not forced.
