We need some SURVIVORS THIS TIME!

I saw someone post this on Reddit about how almost the entire case is always killed off by the end and it's so true! That's probably the reason why I'm not as invested in this season as the past because I'm just expecting everyone to die. For me it's not even about having a connection to the characters, I just want at least a few of them to survive or at least become UNKNOWN! It would be really meaningful to have returning characters besides Clementine and have their story continued whether I like the character or not. It really is unrealistic to have these groups of people survive for however long and then they suddenly all die within a month or so, like many people have said. I honestly was more depressed that Luke's ENTIRE group was killed off than Kenny or Jane's death. Like Luke had SEVEN members in his group that are all dead. His group was extremely capable of surviving considering they ESCAPED FREAKING CARVER at one point and then they all just die one by one. AND I don't even want to talk about the TEN member Lee group that were eventually all killed off. TBH, I kind of have this feeling that more people will survive this season because they haven't introduced as many characters compared to the last two seasons, so there aren't that many people to kill off so easily (but considering what they did to Mariana, I wouldn't be surprised if they all died in the same room together). Plus Episode 2, I think also had the least deaths in any episode, so that's sort of refreshing to hear, but then again it was so short and Episode 3 might have the most deaths than any episode, if were really talking. I don't know, I really don't care much about S3 because everyone will probably die, but at the same time I am curious about how this season will end. Also, I Love Clementine and am so happy she's alive but I definitely think she needs some people to survive with her in the end. Dream ending for this season would literally be Javi, Clem, and at least 3 other survivors walking together in the distance or something. It will be so much more interesting, if they do make a Season 4, to see Clem and her survivor pals together. I really just was to see Clem have positive relationships instead of being alone every time. Really rooting for Telltale to change their predictable story lines. Anyway, I'm pretty sure someone has already talked about this and lots of people agree but with the upcoming release of Episode 3, I just needed to rant a little before more people die! (And Maybe TT will see this)

  • Better tell Telltale that as they reblog(?) this stuff

  • This is probably the least appropriate season to keep anyone alive.

  • Yeah, I'm sick of them killed off for no reason whatsoever. Luke's death was still the most ridiculous one I've seen.

  • Wouldn't count on it. Telltale has the idea of since the season is nearly over time to start getting rid of people.

  • Just let Tripp survive with clem fuck everything else lol

  • This is one of the many reasons why New frontier is getting alot of hate because you cant relate to the group since you known that season after season telltale has killed off the entire group of each season and killed off the survivors in the beggining of the next one leaving only Clem .

  • I want Clem, Javi, Eleanor, Gabe and Tripp to be alive at the end. Yes please.

  • Oh nooo, how could I forget AJ? And AJ.

  • I agree. It gets overlooked considering they've all been killed off or separated from Clem since then, but season 1 actually had the right idea. There was Clementine, Omid, Christa and, though he was presumed to be dead at the time, Kenny. I suppose there was also Lilly if you want to count her as well.

In addition to Javier and Clementine, who I think are guaranteed to survive season 3, I'd like for Tripp, Kate and Gabe to survive as well. Yes, I want Gabe to survive. I don't particularly hate him, I just don't feel strongly about him either way. I do think, however, that he has potential for a decent character arc.

  • 2 of them will be by episode 5

  • TBH, I feel getting people left behind is better. I'd also like Clementine to do. Like I don't want her to die, its just I feel her Plot Armour is too OP and should be gotten rid off.

  • "But that would involve way too much work." - Telltale

  • lol

  • It would be extremely helpful to the TellTale stories if there were more survivors. There are other ways to remove people from the group from a writer's perspective that would be far more gripping.

    • Establish a base of operations
A hub location that is used to store goods, and add fortifications to aid in defense - this occurrence can be found in Season One, even if the shelter is temporary. A longer lasting hub location would mean the writers can actually not have to have certain characters appear in an Episode at all if they wanted/need to, and would be ideal

    • Other people do things
Strange concept, I realize, but as a writer you can also avoid having a character in the episode by having them be on a supply run. ( This was done effectively with Glen) Have a multiple objective task that requires group members to retrieve something while the player character is also. It gives the illusion of a group dynamic without having to write/animate/and voice more things.
Have characters give the player character things: food, a knife for protection, ect. Small gestures or important key item gestures can go a long way to maintaining an illusion. Maybe whoever gives you things changes by how you've treated them even though you receive the same things? Can't afford to record that many dialogue options? Have the characters leave the items with a note on it for you.

    • Have someone leave
This was done fairly well with Lily, but I think it could be done even better if you need to get rid of a survivor permanently without killing them. Some people wanted the option to go with Lily, even after what she had done. Rather than have a character leave because of what they have done, have a character leave because of the player character. That eliminates that dissatisfaction of not being able to go with them.

There are other methods of having people survive and simply carried over into another Season, but this would help avoid troupes like 'getting really lucky' or needing to die in the first five minutes of the next Season.

  • They forgot to kill him off earlier and he was in the way.

  • It's The Walking Dead - in the end, the dead will always win.

  • As long as Clementine isn't the only survivor...AGAIN, It'll be good.

  • Out with the old in with the new- telltale kills off characters that have been around to long to introduce new characters, the cycle continues

  • Which is pretty stupid in her case since she had no outstanding activity about her to begin with and it's not like Clementine would look to her for guidance over even Kenny/Jane, yet they felt the need to pointlessly kill her off instead of leaving the door open given her ripeness.

Btw, why the heck did you originally say "I can see her redeeming"? Was Jane or Kenny/Arvo supposed to be namedropped afterwards?

  • I said that originally because I thought she can grow up in the apocalypse and learn how to survive and redeem how "useless" she was. Even though that wasn't her fault.

  • Not to go against this thread or anything, but my perfect ending would be with just clem and javi, like a father and daughter relationship between them, that would be perfect.

  • Is everyone forgetting Nick's fucking "sendoff"? ^^^

  • No sir....Clementine does not need a dad figure...what she needs are a group of equals that can help her survive...if that turns out to be Javi and Kate and Tripp(Our Lord of the Golden Beard) and Eleanor....then cool. But she is done following and relying totally on others, she ready for a non-dysfunctional group.

  • Well all I'm saying is if it ends up those two alone I wouldn't be upset, they're equals to each other, if anything clem calls what they should do more than anything, therefore the end of the season being just those two and they're really close would be lovely (even though she doesn't need a father figure, okay I get it) it would still be nice to be about to look after clementine once again like we did in S1
