How did Stan get off Flotsam?

edited August 2009 in Tales of Monkey Island
Alright, so at the beginning of the game, D'oro (The Explorer) say he saw a
salesman with flailing arms
that sold him the
map
. However, this would mean this salesman (who is Obviously Stan) was still on the island due to the winds. So, how is it "Stan" got off the island?

Obviously, Stan just flew out from Flotsam...and boy, are his arms tired!

What makes you think he did get off the island?
Just because we didn't see him?

Did he say he got sold the map whilst on Flotsam? Could he not have brought it with him?

Good Point. Maybe the map was his motive to get there in the first place, to find his ninja something doll.

This thread deserves a spoiler icon. I added that.

there were also some Stan-Brand bombs, weren't there? Stan is obviously magical and can teleport, hence how he gets from one end of the pier to the other in SoMI so quickly.

D'oro could have brought those with him too!

Why in the world would a doll action figure collector need bombs?

The treasure could have been sealed behind a rockface? :)

Why would anyone on Flotsom need bombs?

What I mean is that just becuase Stan-Brand bombs on the island doesn't mean Stan was there or ever has been. They could be the only brand of bombs in the whole Caribbean for all we know.

    Trade secret, son. :p

I think that Stan has never been to Flotsam - he could have easily sold the various wares to those involved from other islands (or offshore, perhaps, to capitalize on the duty-free). That, and the
    endless supply of bombs
could have been from a washed-up cargo ship...

I was under the impression that D'oro bought the map's from some dude with waving arms and THEN came to flotsam to find it, he didn't and now he can't leave due to the winds. Or am i mixing this up with someone else's story?

Mebbe the bombs were left over from when Stan did his Panto explosion-smoke entrance? Like King Rat or the Fairy Godmother - *pfft* 'Now's the time to ask yourself: "Are you covered?" '

Let us not forget that Stan can sell anything to anyone. It is possible that he sold the safety floatation bombs to the marquis de singe as a bonus feature of his lightly used key to the temple of the wind gods.

I'm pretty sure Doro said he bought the map, came to Flotsam and was then stranded.

The bombs are a bit iffy, but the map isn't a plothole, you just weren't paying enough attention.
