that was the fake big whoop

Wasn't the Big Whoop a Gate to Heck inside the Monkey Head masked as a rollercoster ride that turns people into skeletons? CMI explains it all.

Guybrush and Elaine having children is equal to them quitting his big adventures. It's just not the same once you start changing diapers. Look what happened to Shrek, Darth Vader or the mammoth from Ice Age, the poor bastards. So I don't want them to have kids.

The Carnival of the Damned is the Big Whoop IIRC. The rumors tricked people into coming there, LeChuck fried them and turned them into his minions.

    QUESTION IS

    Why do ships have ghosts?

    QUESTION IS

    Why do ships have ghosts?

damn now i have to edit my thread into three questions that annoy me
  • edited August 2009
I thought Big Whoop was a red herring?
  • edited August 2009
Theory A: Ships are made from timber. Trees are plants. Plants are alive. So they might have some kind of soul.

Theory B: Sailors bond to their ship. It's the only thing between them and the endless deadly seas. So sailors get to worship their ship a little, thus giving is a bit of their own soul. Yeah, it can happen.

Theory C: It's just a game, you should just relax.

Dudes Big whoop is still a treasure :S
  • edited August 2009
Theory D can be ...maybe someone on the ship is trying to be a ghost like in PoTC that gal tries to make the ship go to that island :S

I have to agree with bigdondoo and Sir Pantalone. Big Whoop is a lure for greedy pirates. It's a dud, a fake, a red herring, a meaty worm stuck on a fishing hook. A chest with a ticket for a ride that turns you into one of the undead minions of LeChuck. It's all smoke and mirrors. There is no spoon treasure.
  • edited August 2009
oh comon man.. every BIG treasure has a spoof a falsy that leads u around and makes ya get lost ....i mean so only special inteligent pirates find it ..and ppl like u give up thinking must be fake :P (no offence) Its real

The Carnival of the Damned is the Big Whoop IIRC. The rumors tricked people into coming there, LeChuck fried them and turned them into his minions.

    QUESTION IS

    Why do ships have ghosts?

The minion thing only happened after LeChuck himself got reincarnated through his "boots on booty" trick.
    Miwiki.net states:
In the third game we learn that Big Whoop is the name of an amusement park (The Carnival of the Damned). In Part 5 of the game LeChuck also goes into a lengthy explanation of the fact that the treasure of Big Whoop was actually a Gate to Hell which is what turned him into a ghost (in the first game LeChuck was said to have died in a shipwreck, but the story elaborates on him surviving).

But I do believe that Big Whoop is the carnival of the damned.
The Big Whoop Treasure in LeChuck's Revenge has a ticket in it... this could be a park ticket or ride ticket....

But that is the fun of the series... Like te Secret of Monkey Island... it has never been made clear what the actual secret is.
Like the suitcase in Pulp Fiction, or the case in Ronin... it's part of the story, but you don't really need to know (or get to know for that matter) what's in it.

When will Guybrush bleephood find Big whoop treasure??????

Big Whop is pure evil. You were lucky to ask this question and stay alive.

Lechuck basically says outright that Big Whoop was a lie to lure in the most greedy pirates for his evil undead army, the type of person who would keep chasing rumors of a tremendous treasure despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary
    ...cough...
oh comon man.. every BIG treasure has a spoof a falsy that leads u around and makes ya get lost ....i mean so only special inteligent pirates find it ..and ppl like u give up thinking must be fake :P (no offence) Its real

Trust me, it's better that you guys DON'T know what it is. After I discovered it, well, I had such high expectations, and... well... it was really disappointing. I wish I could think of an expression to describe this feeling...

    Big whoop?

If Big Whoop was a lure to trick pirate sinto the Carnival of the Damned to make them LeChuck's minions, why was LeChuck so afraid of Guybrush finding it in MI2? You'd think turning Guybrush into LeChuck's minion would be the best revenge he could have?

If you want to try and explain it, you could simply say that LeChuck was worried that Guybrush would ruin LeChuck's plan like he did for the last evil undead thing Guybrush got involved in.

Now it's time for someone to find some offhand quote that makes this impossible.

    0) {not a question from the OP} Why do ships have ghosts?

Unfinished business. They set out on a quest and died before it was complete (if ship is not intact, the ship's in ghost form too). In LeChuck's case, not only had he failed to discover the Secret of Monkey Island, but also hadn't earnt/won/bought Elaine's love. His crew didn't have unfinished business (in MI1 or MI3) but he probably put a voodoo curse on them (in MI1, the Voodoo Lady said LeChuck's voodoo power was equal to hers).

    1) Will Guybrush ever find Big Whoop?

No, because as LeChuck says, 'tis "the very Gates of Hell themeslves!" I think the story would deteriorate if Guybrush were undead too. Seems Big Whoop is The Crossroads in that book Ron Gilbert based SMI on (Of Stranger Tides?). @ppl who say BW is a lure for greedy pirates: how can they find it without the map? Unless LeChuck had several copies made in MI2 when Largo confiscated it off Wally...

    2) When will Guybrush and Elaine ever have children?

If they do, it will ruin the series worse than Escape did. Plz TT and LA, don't go there!

Big Whoop is a dimensional gateway into hell, binding the Monkey Island world with the unholy power of hell. The treasure itself is immortality, but as the name of the treasure suggests, what's the big deal, pretty violent for a treasure, so big whoop.

Guybrush and Elaine will have kids when Guybrush switches to boxers and Elaine lets him do it without protection.

kind of like saying "You Know Who" Lord Voldermort.
    anywho..
Why does Guybrush hate Porcelain. Please dont mention the Pink Pirates :(
  • edited August 2009
Mr. Gilbert had a childhood accident with porcelain which led to him having a fear of porcelain as an adult which they decided to add to Guybrush.

guybrush says i hate Porcelain in MI3 on blood island at that hotel if u examine the vase... i wonder if Mr Gilbert was still in monkey island business at that time

    Hehe. LOVE the name Girlbrush.

On the "Big Whoop" topic... Big Whoop is the Gates of Hell, or like someone said earlier, the "Crossroads". Anyone notice that when you looked at the map on the floor of the Voodoo Lady's shack in ToMI that it was representing this "Crossroads"... and Voodoo Lady talked about it aswell? Maybe we're going to Big Whoop in the Rise of the Pirate God?

Guybrush is afraid of porcelain because it reminds him of all the times he got his head flushed in the toilet at school.
