Monkey Island fan on S&M

I have been a fan of LA adventures since they were released, and I have played or bought all of TTGs stuff since they started out, but I am faced with a problem now...

I was wondering if anyone else just...lost interest in Sam and Max Season 2?
I played through season 1 and thought it was great, but now I am at Moai Better Blues and can't seem to motivate myself to play it. It seems like none of the puzzles give me any direction on what I need to do to solve them, I am solving some randomly on accident, and I can't even tell what is actually a puzzle, to be honest...
I even turned on hints (which I almost never do) and they didn't even really make sense or referenced some thing I didn't even realize I was supposed to be doing...
I have literally not been this stuck with an adventure game since I first played Escape (which I actually ended up finishing, but need a walkthrough, and did it because the story was compelling.
Everyone else seems to think this series is pretty good...

What am I missing?

Most people seem to like Season Two better than Season One. I wouldn't know as I haven't played Season Two yet. I just recently finished Season One yesterday at last. It started out slow and relatively uninteresting but really picked up as it went along. I always thought that Season Two continued (or at least kept) that sense of increase as well. I hope I'm not mistaken. Time will tell. I'll be buying the PC and Wii retail releases when they come out. I'll get both seasons through the Tell Tale store eventually because I want those DVD slip covers and bonus disc features!

I absolutely did not lose interest in Season Two. I felt like EVERYTHING about the second season was better, and not to speak for anyone else it seems like the general consensus is that Season Two is the better of the two.

As far as I'm concerned, Season One was GREAT. But Season Two was GREATER.

I enjoyed Culture Shock a great deal, but found 102 and 103 to be boring and uninteresting. I think Season Two is indeed the better season (with only one episode I dislike - 202) but my favorite collection of S&M episodes are the final three of season one. If you combined the best elements of 102 and 103 into one episode it'd probably be my favorite season.

I understand that Season 2 is "better" I mean is there some underlying logical mindset that I need to have for these puzzles to click with the story, because I am absolutely lost.

Well, first of all you're probably not that great at adventures. I'd hate to see you working at a Sierra or Infocom title. ;)

Secondly, for Moai Better Blues, you have to look for the clues that explain the nature of the portals. They're EXTREMELY subtle for a Telltale game, and threw me for a loop for the duration of that one.

Stick with it. The season two episodes just keeps getting better, and the two last ones are amazing.

Just give yourself a smack in the head and go through all the puzzles you need to do. Draw a mindmap if you can't hold it inside your mind. There's nothing wrong in using the hints if you have been stuck for a long time. Besides, what I know the lowest hint level will give you hints anyway? I'm on 204 now and I was stuck for a long time, put the hints on and realized how stupid I was as I had forgotten a clear thing that I had experienced before. So sometimes it may seem like Telltale is making your life miserable, but you have just forgot something you did!

Season 2 is definately better than the first.

I beat Hitchhikers Guide and one of the king's quests without any help, took a long time, but I did, I have also gone through Myst and Riven and part od the third one without any help, I have no problem with adventures and puzzle solving, but this particular episode of this particular game just seems obtuse to me.

Well Moai Blues is the weakest of the episodes but all in all they are better than s1

Well, if that is the case, I will probably just suffer through it and hope things pick up with ep3

Man I can't wait to get Season Two...

I felt kind of the same with the first season two's episodes.
They were both pretty well done, but i dunno, i just didn't get into it. I think i didn't even replayed them while waiting for the next ones.
Ep.3 was easier cause i just love crappy horror stuff in general and zombies in particular, so that one had an easy job drawing me in.
But, after having played the two final episodes and seeing how it all fitted together, i changed my mind.
I replayed the whole season some weeks ago, and even though i still understood why it hadn't worked so well the first time around, for some reason i loved even 201 and 202.
So yeah, stick with it and wait until you're done with the whole season, your opinion might change then ;)

I just finished Moai for the first time earlier this week (about to start 203 soon) and yeah I agree it was kind of tricky to figure out what needed solving. I got around it by just playing around and trying random different stuff and seeing what happened - I like doing that anyway, and from there I was able to get ideas for what to do next.

Completely agree, I thought Season Two was amazing.

It is like the video gaming equivalent of taking the SAT, it is just putting your brain against the intellectual grindstone for 3 hours at a time until you get the result you want.

Also, I love how I tried to avoid your spoiler, but when I quoted you it showed it to me.

The final 2 episodes of Season 2 of Sam & Max are still the best games Telltale has made in my opinion... As for the difficulty of 202, just think about the portals a little more..

Honestly, they only get better from there. Night of the Raving Dead has me cackling every time. I think there's points in every game when you just have to truck along, and trust me (as a newly-converted Season 2 fan) when I say it's well worth the effort.

    oops, sorry :o

I personally liked Myst but thought that the EGAD line from CMI was just screaming out to be quoted :D

But yeah, just think about the portals and you should get there. The season greatly improves after this episode and episode 3 has one of the best lines of the series when you click the bottles of water...

Though If you are going to use a walkthrough use UHS as they only give you hints that get more obvious as you move through them rather than the solution.

I really don't like Sam & Max 202 at all. The worst game from telltale right after Texas Holdem.
I really hate everything about this episode. The music, the babies, the puzzles. It's really a horrible nightmare.

    I just finished 203 and can confirm - it's awesome! :)

Quick Telltale - release season three- I've only got two episodes left :(

@derketzer I think woo! Is the best song on the entire season 2 soundtrack.. I really liked the portal puzzles in this episode.. I thinksamand max as kids were hilarious and I
loved the moai heads.. This episode felt very Sam n maxy 2 me.. If u listen to the s2 commentary it was going to originally feature Mack salmon and the rubber pants commandos.. So really an underrated episode which I quite liked but I guess I'm in the minority

just curious. what does egad stand for? tried to google it, but Expressed Gene Anatomy Database just didn't seem right..

"Egads" is an exclamation along the lines of "Oh My!" or "Heavens to Murgatroid!". And its something the Flying Welshman says in Curse of Monkey Island when talking about mist, the water vapory kind.

I did the same thing. Moai Better Blues is a fairly weak episode. But I recently picked it back up and finished the season, and I have to say it gets a LOT better after this. The last 3 episodes are all brilliant, and 4 is probably my favorite in the series. Stick with it.

Also, Season Two is definitely a lot harder than Season One in general. I guess they figured since people already had their feet wet they could crank it up a bit.

    I love Season 2.

The only thing I guess I wasn't crazy about ep 2 were the babies, kinda creepy. No biggie, I liked the episode enough and yeah the young Sam an Max rock!

Like someone else said just focus on the portals, you'll get it.
