SpoonyOne's Let's Play Phantasmagoria 2

edited August 2009 in General Chat
I've been following it on Youtube (part 1) since yesterday, and I thought it was hilarious! It's pretty much a Rifftrax for the game. Though some parts are missing in the Youtube version, and can only be found in his website. Oh, and it's got mature themes and swearing, so be warned.

Have you guys seen it?

Saw it back when he was making it... pretty funny stuff!

I liked the game, though... bought both Phantasmagorias when they were new, had a lot of fun with them. Still like them, though I have to admit.... they're pretty bad :D

    Yeah, like watching a B-movie

Bad, yes, but in a good way.

I've been following Spoony's stuff for a while now. He's pretty funny.

Didn't that game have an insane amount of disks?

5 in total. I still own it  :o

Spoony's playthrough of it was funny I thought! It'd be cool if he did the same for the original Phantasmagoria :)

Five, but there were other games that had more. The first Phantasmagoria had seven, as did The X-Files Game IIRC. And yet another FMV title from Take 2 called The Black Dahlia (I think Spoony mentions it in one of his videos) took EIGHT. That's the largest I've seen (and own).

Only thing I hate is that those extra discs are usually superfluous. Phantasmagoria could have easily fit onto two or three CDs, and maybe even one, should somebody have gotten cheeky with the compression tools.

I get the whole "7 days/7 discs" thing, but was all of that extra work really worth it? The biggest reaction I've seen upon somebody making that connection in their mind is a quick "Huh. Nice." Doesn't seem worth the trouble to me.

the original phantasmagoria could have easily fit on less disks the reason they spanned it over 7 was that if it was on less thered be an insane amount of disk swapping - for like whenever you went to the third floor, went to town or viewed a certain scene for example. allot of the data - like all the mansion and various scenes were repeated over several or all disks.

^ Good point. I didn't consider the repeated data.

There's a fanmade tool available at The Sierra Help Pages that will convert the 7 CD release to 1 DVD. It also includes DOSBox to run the game under XP/Vista. It comes highly recommended. There's also a similar tool available for Gabriel Knight 2.
