Dark Souls: Thoughts on the Series Finale?

To any Dark Souls fans; how did you guys enjoy Ringed City? Was it what you were hoping for? Were you satisfied with the final boss? Did you like the areas? Did the story end well for you?

I was really suprised about this DLC; Dark Souls has always had really good content stored away in the DLC's, but none have really rivaled Artorias of the Abyss, but Ringed City has reached that height. The bosses were all very well made; even the PvP one. All the areas were very in depth, filled with +3 rings of the best rings in the game. The game answered many questions, but also created more questions.

While I would prefer having new and old rings return, as well as I would prefer having more returning weapons to come back as well, I am fine with what they did with the rings and weapons especially since they are all unique.

Lastly, the final boss was amazing. A very fitting end to the story, a man who is no one fighting against another man who is no one is a very fitting end to a story where you have always been outnumbered and the loser. I loved the battlefield, loved the cutscenes, loved the atmosphere, and loved the fight.

I hate to admit that I am very troubled that our beloved Dark Souls series has ended. It's been an amazing ride, and I am glad that the DLC ended off Dark Souls on a very high note!

I'd give the Ringed City DLC a 9/10 (A-)

I quit this game because it was too hard. I enjoy a little difficulty but thats was way too hard for me. Couldnt enjoy it at all. ~> (my opinion)

  • It was good, but personally I was hoping for the final boss to actually be someone more important to end the series on. I'll admit I don't really know the lore until videos by Vaati or whoever are released so maybe I just didn't get it but I saw all the statues of Frampt and got excited at the possibility of maybe fighting one of his kind, not to mention the fight with Gael was too easy when you have a giant arena and a slow as hell boss its crossbow cheese time. I also kinda wish the new painting was completed.

It was very challenging however, not so much the bosses (except Midir still haven't beat him dragon fights suck) but the areas were like puzzles to be solved and I died more times than I cared to count to the angel guys and the Giants walking up the stairway to the church.

  • Freakin loved every minute of it. I was also a fan of the final boss fight. It gradually got harder and more Badass as the fight continued. Everything and everywhere was a screenshot or a cover for a heavy metal band. It got really creative with some enemies and gave that classic dark souls rush (dopamine) when slaying these monsters. A fantastic send off to a great series.

  • I actually didn't have a big problem fighting any boss; maybe being an SL100 on NG was a little bit TOO OP haha! In fact, the first boss, final boss, and optional boss were all amazing, and each one made me say "Wow, that was one of my favorite boss fights".

The skybox was gorgeous; this is the best looking DLC we have in my opinion. As far as quality and places go; I think the areas are all very well made, though maybe there are a lot of flat areas, and I don't mind the gank enemies as you can funnel them and a lot of the DLC relies on vertical play.

As far as enemies go, I loved them all too. The crippled enemies that shoot out dregs were all cool; though there appearence was short lived. The giant tree belly guys were all fun and had a unique near insta kill if you dropped on them. The angels were my favorite part as it made you go full stealth mode in a game like Dark Souls making it feel like a horror game as you moved in and out of cover. Lastly, the Ringed City enemies were all amazing as well; the turtles, pygmies, DS2 Summoners, ringed knights, just loved all of them.

  • I'd recommend trying again.

    Which one did you play?
    How far did you get?
    How did you play?
    What weapons did you use?

I played Dark Souls 1 back in 2014 after hearing the rumors of Dark Souls being a brutal game, I never got into it and I pushed it aside for about TWO years where my two raiding buddies from Destiny were playing it (We got bored of Destiny; but we are still best friends to this day), and my friend Kevin was the only one on and told me to try Dark Souls. Well, I did, he started me out as the HARDEST character (Deprived) and I set out literally handicapped by my friend. Well, I made much quicker work through the point I beat last time, and I was very pleased with that. So after that, my friend came on that KNEW EVERYTHING, and as I played he would tell me secrets and lore, but he kept the gameplay and bosses secret.

Overall, I got really back into it, asking frequent questions about lore which caused me to become greatly invested in the story; which Dark Souls has arguably one of the best stories out there.

Overall, give Dark Souls a try again, you may fall in love with it as I did.
