COMI, any version working on Vista?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_0_7?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=curse+of+monkey+island&sprefix=Curse+o
Is there any version of COMI that works on Vista without SCUMMVM on that page or in existence?

Actually, I think the 'Classics' line run on Vista without a problem. I know my Sam & Max Hit the Road one does.

to get CoMI to run on vista

    you need to use

    http://www.scummvm.org/

    This program.

Trust me it works. I'm running vista and have CoMI running just fine using that baby!

(the point here is that you NEED to use it. there is no version that doesn't as far as I know)

why would you want to run it without scummvm?

If you for some reason don't want to run the game through ScummVM, you can use this CMI launcher.

    or get this installer.

It gives you more and stable installation options and comes with the same above mentioned launcher.

I have one question though... why wouldn't you want a launcher like ScummVM for the game???
ScummVM runs like a charm on Vista (and even Win7)

I tried playing without ScummVM first. It played alright, for so long, then it just froze up. With that I definitely recommend just using ScummVM really. It's not like you've got anything big to set it up and it's easy to use.

So not being allowed to download stuff is a crime. -_-
Does the Lucasarts Classic COMI work then?

If it's a parental problem just explain to them that ScummVM isn't illegal and isn't going to contain spyware and viruses etc. Have you been able to get Tales or is that forbidden also?

I have Tales and EFMI already works on Vista.

If you can download this launcher (http://quick.mixnmojo.com/cmi-launcher) like someone else suggested I'm pretty sure you just replace the one you install from the CD, so you're not getting a whole new program, just changing one of the files?

If the above doesn't work. Can't you just go round to a friends house and download ScummVM onto a usb stick, or a cd, or something along those lines? :/

When you've got ScummVM, it was made to be used with the retail cd's. All you have to do is get the files; comi.la0(It's on both disks, but they're identical, so doesnt matter which one you get it off), comi.la1, comi.la2 and the Resource files on both disks compiled into one Resource file in the same directory as the other files.

As I said I did manage to get it to work on Vista. However it just kept freezing randomly, making it impossible to play without using ScummVM. :/

How did you get Tales if you aren't allowed to download anything?

Running a PC on Windows Vista is a crime all by itself:D

    nah... just kidding...

but ScummVM is a very small and completly virus/spam free application.

Let your parents have a look at the webpage, and explain to them that you need this app to play the just bought game because they have a crappy OS on their system.
It's ScummVM or Windows 7, those are basicly the only options your parents have..

Disclaimer: Using Window 7 as an OS still requires ScummVM or Launcher to be downloaden, CoMI doesn't run very well in Windows 7.

Curse works with the classics discs, and that was $10.

Still, I would just run SzummVm if you run into any problems. CMI had issues on my pc, often text would stuf up and dialog would repeat and freeze every 10min.

I have had Curse running fine on vista without ScummVM for ages now, to get it working i just downloaded this: http://quick.mixnmojo.com/cmi-setup and to fix a problem were the dialogue would loop every so often, just set the COMI.exe file to windows 95 compatability mode.

Once you have, then just open the directory/folder where those files are kept in ScummVM, and it should find the game. :)

just download scummvm anyways and throw it into a folder that your parents wont find... title it something like "favorite biblical passages" (i know a guy who hides his... ummmm well you really don't want to know what he hides in his "favorite biblical passages" folder...)

I had ScummVM crash on me the other day when I was playing easy mode of CMI, right when the ship leaves for Blood Island it locked up and I had to close it out, kind of upset me because I hadn't saved at all. :(

Unlucky. Actually I had EFMI freeze up, window just gave me and error that the program could not repond, when I was playing through it again the other week. I was just getting the final piece for the Ultimate Insult, where you have to do that dive. Hadn't saved since finding Ozzie's stolen treasure. x.x Had to redo that stupid Parrot rock puzzle(I hate that so much it's untrue, you can be going through those rocks for ages, talking to the drunken bird untill you find the one it's under). It's times like that I really miss autosave. Such a brilliant feature.

I think it's pretty safe to say the passages you're referring to aren't of a biblical nature...

Copy the RESOURCE folder, COMI.LA0 and COMI LA1 from disc 1 and the RESOURCE folder and COMI.LA2 from disc 2 of your original gamediscs to an easy to find folder on your HDD. (keep the resource folder in tact, don't put the files out of the folder, when windows states "overwrite" click yes).
You don't need any other files or executables.

Open ScummVM, Click "ADD GAME", go to the folder where you copied your files, Press "CHOOSE" then "OK" when the game-info screen appears....

    you should be done now.

Click on the game and press "START".

    Voila, CoMI running in ScummVM
