===Ep2 launch: The unofficial IRC channel===
NOTE: WE DECIDED TO MOVE THIS TO THE EXISTING MONKEY ISLAND CHANNEL. SEE YOU THERE
When episode 1 launched a few people (over a hundred at the same time actually) moved to IRC when the forum was down. It was a pretty uncoordinated affair with many people posting links in the blog's comments section.
I thought that this time it may be a good idea to be prepared and spread the word a little earlier, so that should the forum come down again people would know where to go. The original channel still exists, so it's probably best to reuse it.
Just use this link if your IRC program supports links (like Chatzilla)
irc://irc.gamesurge.net/monkey-island
otherwise it's simply
#monkey-island on irc.gamesurge.net
or use the web interface (thanks to firsttimeuser)
http://www.gamesurge.net/chat
Simply type "/join #monkey-island" (without the "") to join.
In case you're not familiar with IRC:
It's basically a standardized chat system. In order to join you need a client software like Chatzilla (a Firefox addon), mIRC (a standalone program) or one of the many web-based clients.
Don't be afraid to give this topic a little bump now and then

Do data urls work as well?
Edit: No, unknown protocols are prefixed with http:// . Impressive that they remembered to include irc:// on the whitelist.
So why create another one?
So we're moving the discussion there.
BloodShed, if you read this, could you instruct the bot to direct people to the new channel?
Simply enter a nickname of delight. After being transfered to the #welcome channel simply type " /join #monkey-island " (without the ") to join #monkey-island channel.
There are various commands that do something, sometimes are even usefull. A beginner's overwiew is at http://www.ircbeginner.com/ircinfo/ircc-commands.html
Thanks. And sure, #monkey-island isn't a constant hive of activity, but put it this way: in one form or another, that channel has existed since before Curse of Monkey Island even came out, and it's had active community members in it all along - many of which went on to work for Telltale!
(Yes I know. It's awful: people just running around and bumping into anything that hasn't climbed the nearest tree at the count of three. Rest assured, if I was a monk from the middle ages I'd punish myself)
If I was you, I wouldn't stand for that kind of behaviour. Revolt, people. Start shouting. Who do I think I am just bumping topics?
Except me and my stupid humor.
