Mass Effect Andromeda DLCs Discussion

OK since we have finished the main story of Mass Effect Andromeda. There are several things that need to be a address like DLCs and including any other discussions about what kind of DLC we might expect and hwmany are going to get and add ons like new material items like what we had in recent Mass Effect games like outfits for your squadmates and new weapons.

Post any discussions in this. Also I hope the MODS can add new things on this discussion.

  • I'm hoping for a Quarian Ark DLC. That audio transmission has a lot of potential

Too bad the game was a taped-together piece of trash kicked out the backdoor into a dumpster fire. Mass Effect may as well be dead for the next 5 years. There's little chance it's getting anything other than patches in the future.

All my pessimism aside, expanding on that random ancient AI you can find on one of the planets would be cool. More things happening on the scale of those architect fights too, like maybe just some roaming giant creatures.

  • I've pretty much exhausted my comments in various places. I will repeat this part though:

If you think Bioware is going to bail on the game because it didn't live up to the hype, had issues and had "lower than expected" sales, I think you'll be surprised. The game didn't bomb. Remember that. As disappointed as people were, the game didn't bomb. The more important piece to add is that their next game will be online multiplayer only and if they've started on the next Dragon Age, it's just happening now. So if they bail on the game, fans will be waiting about 5 years for the next single player campaign. I doubt it.

You never know though. Bioware could have convinced EA to start being patient. Now what do you think is more likely?

  • I'd love to be surprised. I'd love to actually think to myself, "wow, there's some interesting things coming to ME:A, I should reinstall it." But after everything I've seen, read, and experienced with the game, I have no expectations beyond disappointment. The patches I've seen showed promise, I will give it that, but that's basically a band-aid for a bullet wound. The story is still a copy paste of the Collectors and reapers, the writing is still painfully terrible throughout all parts of the story, and there's nothing DLC could do to fix THOSE issues. The DLC could be better than the base game in terms of story and writing, but that won't make the rest of the game better by any means.

And then there's that bit of news saying that the dev team has more or less been relegated to helping other games, and not on continuing Mass Effect. So unless some incredibly bare bones team that managed to avoid being shipped off to another studio is in charge of the future dlc of Mass Effect AND the patches, there is no DLC coming to Mass Effect anytime soon. And if it's not coming out within months of release, as is to be expected in this gaming age, then it may as well never happen because the window of people caring about the game will have surely passed, especially a game that received this much negative attention. The only thing I could think of that could possibly help, is having the multiplayer do the exact same thing that ME3 did, which was have everything for it be free, and throw in character types so that the game can manage to at least get articles written about it so the game stays in peoples general mind space until DLC becomes a viable option.

But nothing more can be done to actually improve the game, beyond actually redoing the game, so there's no reason to recommend anyone buy the game and suffer through it's problems just to enjoy some quality DLC. So why make any in the first place?

As for what I think is more likely? I think it's insane to think anyone can tell EA anything and instead assume EA went "Wtf did u guis dew? We gav u a jem of a gaem and yu dun fukd it up." and kicked bioware to the proverbial curb to work on other crap.

  • The game was developed by the secondary studio, which was mostly re-assigned, yes. The team leads were loaned from their primary studio though(which is why saying the game was made by a new studio doesn't really let the developer off the hook even though the man ultimately calling the shots was inhouse). Those people were not re-assigned to the support teams. The announcement stated that the secondary skeleton crew would continue working on patches and multiplayer content(their job on ME3). There was no mention what would happen with the crew returning to the primary studio or any potential single player DLC content.

There could be nothing coming. There also could be content being developed under a closer eye in the primary studio. The huge delay that was announced for their next game, immediately following the aforementioned announcement, sure seems more than coincidental.

  • Correction: The leads have stayed in the secondary studio. I still don't think they're going to let the campaign portion gather dust. They'll do a bit of "re-evaluating" that they mentioned and then move from there. They probably won't pump it out like ME3 at this point, but something will come. I'd be shocked if it didn't.

  • ...And it looks like they've started on Dragon Age pre-production. This explains the framework and engine programmers and artist positions available. A writer announced they are working on something officially DA related(even if it's not the actual game, one's going to be coming).

DLC isn't looking too likely unless it was part of the original plan. Even still, with Dragon Age just starting recently, we'd be looking at a good 3 years before the next single player game. Easily 3 years(normally, I would say 4-5, but their Dragon Age team isn't like their ME teams. The core has been around a while). These positions answer the "What do we want to do?" question of gameplay. Why do I doubt that they'll wait that long?

Want some fuel for the rumour flames?

The main producer of Mass Effect(since 2) has mentioned he will be in an important meeting tomorrow. With EA? With Flynn and Bioware? With another company? To get his mortgage adjusted? Who knows. Monday was a holiday in Canada, so this will effectively be a Monday morning meeting.

The creative director of Andromeda(prev. writer of 2&3) has been dead silent on twitter since launch... but so has the GM of Bioware and he's going nowhere.

Could the first step in "what happens next?" start in the mere coming days? It does look like the gears are turning at Bioware though.
