You know I'd be fine with a reboot if it restarted the whole series and just retold the actual story from the actual games, that'd be very enjoyable and they very well may do it. But James Wan? James Wan?! James Fucking Wan?!?!

It's like they WANT the project to fail.
It's been a while since I've felt so mixed about film news as I am about the Resident Evil reboot. I mean, I wanted this. I just don't have faith that the new series won't be a train wreck of all new bad decisions. Apparently there's a whole new plan in place that the director(s) will stick to. They have to know that the game fans hated the last series. They have to see that the recent horror game did much better than the last two action games. Right? Right? I don't even buy that.
I didn't even hate the first movie as much. I just figured: hey, zombies in a house is overdone(even back then!) and there's a lot of logistic issues with making a backtracking heavy game work in film. Okay, so they did their own thing to start. I wasn't happy with that, but I wasn't mad. Then the second movie was just shit.
James Wan is a solid director at times, the first Conjuring movie was great and the original Saw was actually a good movie unlike the sequels (which are fun, but none of them are great like the first.) However, James Wan has directed a lot of really bad things, and he's written even worse things. And even with the Conjuring being good, the sequel and Annabelle are both terrible. James Wan isn't exactly the best choice.
Like Papai said above though, Sam Raimi would be an excellent choice as Resident Evil is a cheesy horror series with memorable monsters, amazing atmosphere and some fun stuff. (albeit unintentionally a lot of the time.) And Sam Raimi is kinda the director you ask if you want something like that done right. Examples being Drag Me To Hell and the Evil Dead films.
James Wan is amazing at creating likeable characters, suspense and different, memorable monsters
I'd somewhat agree when it comes to Saw and the first Conjuring. Not so much if we're talking Insidious.
and seeing him as the man who respects the franchise he's working with (Furious 7) I believe in him.
While he does respect the franchise/source material, come on, The Furious franchise isn't exactly a beloved, flawless masterpiece
And Conjuring 2 was bad? That's interesting, I found it better than the first one, especially with the inclusion of the Crooked Man.
I personally thought it was far more predictable, way more cliche and far too dumb. It was definitely shot way better and had some great tension, but The Conjuring is a modern masterpiece and in my opinion, 2 does it no favors.
Then clearly you haven't seen Evil Dead 2 or Drag Me To Hell, both of which are fantastic horror/comedy films that blow 2 of the 3 Spider-Man movies out of the water completely.
And both of which were written and directed by him.

Yeah, how could they think we would give a shit about someone who was never in the games? This whole live action franchise was unnecesary and they should have cancelled the sequels. I even dare to say Resident Evil 5 and 6 were better.

I'd recommend Resident Evil HD Remaster and Resident Evil 7, they're pretty awesome survival horror games. Resident Evil 4 is good too but not as good for being a survival horror but it's still fun.

Just why?

They should just hire Sam Raimi.
Well the previous movies were trash so the bar isn't very high. I know most people are cynical about Video Game movies but I'll remain optimistic.
Eh I liked the conjuring
I'm a big fan of James Wan's horror films and I hope he can do good by the resident evil series.
Copy/paste job of my opinion from last night.
The Conjuring was solid, don't get me wrong. But James Wan has made a LOOOOOT of garbage.
That's an excellent idea, actually. Sam Raimi would be perfect for a series like Resident Evil.

I thought he was perfect for superheroes only, more or less.

Yeah, I guess I should give them a try
They reboot this, as long as they do it right!
Give us the REAL protagonists, the mansion and the REAL villain!
I saw how bad they copied Wesker's fight from Resident Evil 5, terrible music, terrible cast, terrible CGI effects and physics.
very horrible indeed
Anderson was a lazy fool and disrespected the series. Fucking Alice was such a plot device not worthy of protagonism

Anything is better than these films, hell I am WAY more excited for Vendetta
You can't compare them, completely different genres.
Good point.
Dude, check out Don't Breathe! Probably one of the best horror films I've ever seen in YEARS.
And you'll be so freaked out when you see what the villain's secret weapon is.
That was ALSO produced by him.
I might check it out. I loved James' work. Saw, the Conjuring, Lights Out, etc...
Assassin's Creed was the chosen one and people hated that
Well...let's hope the next VG movie doesn't fuck up (though it probably will).
Have you ever played a Resident Evil game?
To be honest I liked the AC movie but it has
-Bad script
-bad CG
-90 minutes lenght is shit
-Rushed ending
-Shit editing
I've seen let's plays of Resident Evil 4, but I've never actually played any of the games myself.
I'd recommend Resident Evil HD Remaster and Resident Evil 7, they're pretty awesome survival horror games. Resident Evil 4 is good too but not as good for being a survival horror but it's still fun.
Guess what? Tom Holland is going to play Young Nathan Drake in the upcoming Uncharted movie.
I'll try and buy 'em when I get some cash. And time.
Yeah I heard. Pretty excited.
