May 27, 1999, at the Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville, Texas, America, a Western lowland gorilla was born: Harambe. Named afte the song "Harambe (Working Together for Freedom)" by Rita Marley. Harambee is a Swahili term for communal labor.
17 years later, he celebrated his birthday. By 4:00 p.m. EST the next day, May 28, 2016 Harambe was shot dead.
Today would be Harambe's 18th birthday. Tomorrow will be the one year anniversary of his death.
Harambe now lives as a meme. So that is something, ain't it? What an interesting story.
P.S. Basically this thread, while not entirely a joke, is meant to be discussing Harambe's significance that came out of nowhere. So be limited with the memes.
