Best non-TMI Telltale episode?

edited August 2009 in General Chat
Hey folks,

I received a coupon for a free game when I pre-ordered TMI, and was wondering if you all had any input on which of TTG's other stuff is the best to download, given that I will only be downloading a single episode? I already own a physical copy of the first three Sam and Max.

I really like bone, but I know that was very early on for TTG. And Texas Hold 'em is attractive to me, being a stand-alone poker game. I am a long-time lucasarts adventure gamer. Let me know your thoughts... Thanks!

Try the demos for each series. If you want Sam and Max, go with Ice Station Santa. IT's a good episode. If you go Strong Bad, choose Dangeresque 3. Wallace and Gromit, choose Muzzled. If you can't decide, I'll gladly take it.

Most of my favourite Episodes either spoil too much of the rest of the season or require somewhat that you know the other episodes.

If you want a funny game choose: Strong Bad 104: Dangeresque 3
If you want a good but a little less funny game get Strong Bad 105: 8-Bit is enough

Seeing you have the first 3 Sam & max games, I'd HIGHLY recommend "Abe Lincoln Must Die", my favourite Sam & Max episode so far (bear in mind I'm only up to S&M Season 2: Raving Dead).

Telltale released that for free! Stop trying to make him waste his freebie, you meanie! :p

Like someone said - try the demos. Of the three different titles, here's my picks:

Sam & Max - Either Reality 2.0 or Ice Station Santa, depending on how old you are. If you're over 20, I'd recommend the first one - if you're younger, a lot of the classic gaming humour may fly over your head.

Strong Bad - Either Dangeresque 3 or 8-Bit is Enough. Both are brilliant, but again, 8-Bit may be a bit above you if you're not into retro gaming.

Wallace & Gromit - Muzzled!. It's the best of the series.

Hopefully that should help you narrow it down.

Thanks for the input! I think I have narrowed it down, probably to Sam & Max. Reality 2.0 sounds pretty enticing, the more classic adventure references the better! (up until a few years ago I still had my old IBM loaded with all the floppy versions of the LA games I grew up on). Getting a new laptop today, and I can't wait to play a game all the way through without it overheating

If you're a LucasArts veteran, then yeah, Reality 2.0 will probably be like a wet dream for you. I'd say try the demo, but IIRC, the demo doesn't actually let you try the titular aspect of the game. Bah!

I thought Chariots of the Dogs from S&M Season 2 was the best non-Monkey Island related Telltale Episode, though if you hadn't played the episodes leading up to it would be too confusing to fathom.

Wallace & Gromit - Muzzled!. It's the best of the series.

I too, thought Muzzled! was the best of the Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures.

(I haven't played StrongBad or Bone so I can't really comment on them.)

I was supposed to get a coupon as well, but I've seen nothing of it. Is it a code you get or are you just automatically entitled to a free game? I can't see any references to it on the My Games page either.

The coupon code came in the email with your Tales of MI chapter one download info, I believe. (Or possibly with your initial purchase info.)

My favorite Telltale episode is probably Sam & Max: Chariots of the Dogs, but one of my favorite things about the episode is that it hinges on all of the previous episodes to make sense... so I can't recommend that one as a starter episode, but its fun when you get to it :)

Ice Station Santa, Abe Lincoln Must Die, and Reality 2.0 are all good starter Sam & Max episodes. For Strong Bad, my favorites are probably episodes 4 (Dangeresque) and 5 (8 Bit is Enough), but the Strong Bad episodes are structurally and tonally different from episode to episode (for instance episode 2 is built on top of a fake strategy board game and is about Strong Bad conquering all surrounding nations, while episode 3 throws all of that out, sets up rock music stages, and is about competing in a battle of the bands), so maybe take a look at some demos. With Wallace & Gromit, I love episodes 2 and 3 especially (whodunits on a stormy night, and villains escaping in giant hot air balloon versions of their own heads -- what's not to love?!), but they're all cool.

I would Like to echo all of this. Reality 2.0 and Chariot of Dogs are probably my two favourites overall.

Yeah, this is truth. Charots of the Dogs is amazing, but not a great introduction.

I'd go episodes 4 or 5 from Sam & Max Season One.
