Question for anyone at Telltale... (spoilers)

This isn't a huge spoiler, but I don't want to ruin it for people who haven't had a chance to get the game yet.
In the sneak preview we saw, Guybrush still had his hand, and that preview was released pretty shortly before the game itself. In the full chapter, his hand gets lopped off right at the beginning - this seems like a pretty huge thing to change. How big exactly was the change (was this going to end up happening anyway or was it more of a big decision, for example) and when was this choice made? Seems like you would have had to re-record some stuff and things like that (assuming it was a change and not just a mistake in the trailer or something). So yeah... what's the deal with that? Not that it's bad or anything, just curious :p
I apologise if this has been addressed already.

Well.. i think they just change the trailer not to give too much away... They also skipped parts of the complete scene in it.

That decision was one of the earliest ones we made, right from the beginning!
The trailer was a lie!! :P

Ahh yes, when I first saw the hook, I was all "Damn you Telltale and your decieving ways!!"

Also it was kinda of a surpise/confussion for those of us, weak spirited ones, that saw the leaked video.

Well I guess Guybrush will be getting his hand back at some point. The merfolk librarian mentioned that his people can (re)attach limbs.

I've got another question for you, Telltale people

Was it surprising for you to see the amount of speculation about the cliffhanger woman? Did you expect most of us were thinking about Kate Capsize and Carla?

I was thinking it was Wally.. only becasue the mystery person in the screenshot had a hook. That still didn't explain the dress though lol.. unless Wally undergone some MAJOR changes since we last him..hah

My question to Telltale would be:

At what point did you decide to use Guybrush's character model for one of the pirates that are fighting LeChuck? Was it early on or was it a decision made later after you read some of the peoples concerns about reusing the same two models in chapter 1?

I also think you could use LeChuck's character model in later chapters just so you have a few more to choose from. Maybe De Singe's too.

As for the cliffhanger of chapter 1... I can't believe people were getting so caught up in this Carla, Wally, Kate thing. Really blew my mind that a bunch of people that play adventure games, that are using their brains a lot, would even come up with those ideas & then convince themselves that they might even be true.

I posted in the original cliffhanger thread that it had to be Morgan. At the end of chapter 1 Marquis De Singe grabs the flyer & it just seemed so obvious that it would be her. I didn't even think it was really a cliffhanger it was so obvious. I guess when fans get crazy their minds get a little over excited & you all just over thought it.

LOL! I ended up finding out before it was released. When I saw the sneak peak I knew they were pulling off a George Lucus. (When Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back was being filmed, the whole thing about Darth Vader being Luke's father was a complete secret that even almost the whole staff didn't know about it and the script they had to go with was that 'Obiwan killed Luke's father' until they did Darth Vader's real voice)

Not wishing to start a new thread I'll pose my question here for any member of the Telltale Team:

I understand the nautical/flirtatcious connotations of the oft repeated "Hello Sailor" spoken by Anemone to Guybrush throughout the episode, but upon initially hearing it my thoughts leaped immediately to the 'Zork' series of adventure game in which said quote has paticular (allbeit obscure) significance.

Tell me, did you have this 'Zork' reference in mind with this paticular line of dialogue or am I reading too much into it?

And while I'm here I will announce my congratulations to the whole team for the splendid opening dual with Morgan Le Flay. This was the most visually exciting puzzle yet, and I paticularly enjoyed the cinematic use of camerawork throughout this section of game. It induced the perfect atmosphere and provided a suitably grand and piratey introduction to the episode.

Include aspects like this in future episodes and I will be happy indeed!

    Thank you.

Alot of us thought that Morgan Le Flay was a pseudonym for either Kate or Carla(or Wally). There was no real speculation on whether it was Morgan Le Flay or not, just the identity of her.

Everybody knew it was Morgan, mister Sherlock.
We just all thought Morgan was an anagram for a character we had already met. That's what the words "Guybrush Threepwood, I've been waiting a long time for this" generally mean.
Also; not showing her face would indicate that. Making a cliffhanger out of showing her face, and true identity would do that.

Luckily we have smart detectives like yourself to set us, the brainless adventurers, straight with your wise discoveries.
Luckily chapter 2 didn't end on a cliffhanger or we would have to ask you to correct us in a month again. Imagine that.

I say the manatee is Wally! He somehow went through with some sort of transformation! It HAS to be!

Stan HAS to be in it somewhere... I'm betting he's set up shop inside the manatee! I would imagine Murray will make an appearance and *hopefully* Timmy. Largo, possibly, although he's not exactly a recurring character.

Oh god no, not Timmy. WTF is Timmy The Monkey anyway? I hated that they put him in MI4 & then acted like he was an established character that everyone should be familiar with.

    Well I liked Timmy!

Monkey Island 4 was never made, they just used the name of our beloved franchise and made some weird Ankh-like adventure game out of it.

Hey, I liked MI4. Sure it's the worst (like that means anything), but it was still funny.

It was funny you are right. But that was all it had going for it. The writing was the only thing that stopped it being a truly terrible game.

The controls were bad, the graphics were ugly, a lot of the puzzles were totally illogical, Melee Island was awful & a disservice to SMI's Melee. It had unlikeable characters such as I. Cheese & Ozzie Mandrill & the less I say about The Scumm Bar, Monkey Kombat & the giant monkey head becoming a robot & leaving Monkey Island, the better.

If it had been any other game, then fine. But as a Monkey Island game, you can't not compare it with the other games in the series. When you do this, you can see just how meh it was. And meh & Monkey Island do not go together. That's why a lot of us see it as the blemish that it is on an otherwise stellar franchise.

Actually, it just occured to me that I should have been really worried about whether Tales of Monkey Island would pull the franchise up from the EMI... thing. It seems kind of odd that straight away when the game was announced everyone was like "oh no way, this is gonna be awesome!" instead of "I hope this will be awesome!"

I think it's just a testament to how much we trust and love Telltale. And their cans.

Well never playing a TT game before this was announced, I was a little worried. I was still browsing the forums when a lot of people were sharing their concerns over the control method chosen. People were voicing their dislike for the Wallace & Gromit controls & even more so, the Grim Fandango & EMI controls. People were a little worried.

So I went onto my Xbox to play some of the demos for Sam & Max & Wallace & Gromit. After that, I was pretty happy with the quality of those games & after learning a lot of the original Lucasarts members were now with TT, I was more optimistic about them doing a good job than I may have been otherwise..

Would I have liked an original point n' click control to be included during the design of this game? Of course I would have. But the end result is still excellent & more than I could have hoped for tbh. So yeah, I was a little worried, but after EMI, how bad could it have turned out? I guess you just didn't come across too many people like me. But hey, I'm just a bit of a pessimist. At least whatever happens you'll be pleasantly surprised that way. :D

So far every one of your posts in this thread has made me feel some sort of negative emotion.
