Giant Hole in the plot

There is a giant hole in the plot in the current Part 2, The Siege of Spinner Cay. It is when
the pirate hunter, Morgan Le Flay, cuts your hand off, she sails to Flotsam. Well my question is when you try to sail to Flotsam, you are told that you are being brought as close to the island as possible, due to the winds. Well how did she make it past the winds? (As seen when giving Dr.Marquis the hand in return for gold.)

What are you talking about? Have you played the chapters? De Singe wants Guybrush's hand. Guybrush didn't steal anything.

    They mean Guybrush took the
MerKey that controls the wind idols.
Maybe the Marquis has another one, after all, LeChuck has one too. They seem to be common.

He means the wind controller. I noticed this too.

It was just cos of the filesize issues you can't go back to flotsam.

Personally I'm glad, the new islands each chapter are awesome.

    She swam back

You didn't say what Guybrush took >.> But anyways, he could always have an extra...

Not even a Micheal Phelps can pull that off.

My explanation: The winds aren't actually all that bad. Winslow just sucks at sailing. Next!

Man, how cool would it be that in the DVD release, they let you go back to Flotsom? Obviously you don't need to & there would be nothing to do there, but it would be cool as a distraction for a new player & just to make it feeel more like one big game instead of episodes.

TT have done such a good job with these episodes so far, I hope they put as much effort into the DVD also, just to say thanks to the fans by basically giving them MI5 at the end of it all.

Perhaps De Singe isn't on Flotsam anymore? I didn't actually notice the setting during their conversation... he probably was I guess.

Ah, but she's a pirate HUNTER. In fact, a steamboat would give her an advantage over her quarry.
  • edited August 2009
Well, since De Singe doesn't have another key lying around (otherwise he would've started the winds sucking back in as soon as Guybrush made them blow out, right?), I'm thinkin'
Morgan LaFlay's got her hands on one of De Cava's submarine things.
Can't really think of any other possible explanation.

The era of the steamboat began in America in 1787 when John Fitch (1743-1798) made the first successful trial of a steamboat on the Delaware River on August 22, 1787, in the presence of members of the Constitutional Convention. @ http://inventors.about.com/library/inventors/blsteamship.htm

This seems possible, but she first encountered guybrush on a ship... With her Grapple if you recall. So i highly doubt she has a sub.

But Monkey Island mentions TVs, electricity, and Planet Hollywood! Maybe Monkey Island takes place in some weird alternate universe. Or maybe you're just a killjoy (jk).

Eh, just don't worry about. Worrying about the little things ruins pretty much every plot.

    Not really a plot hole...

    Maybe Anenenemone reeled it in?

Unless you found a glitch, no it doesn't. Play it again & see for yourself. You always take the raft back to Anemone.

    1) You're seriously expecting a MONKEY ISLAND game to be historically accurate and free of anachronisms??

    2) We haven't actually seen how Morgan LeFlay gets around. She seems a resourceful sort, she probably has ways. Just because the Screaming Narwhal couldn't get back there doesn't mean nobody can.

    3) Isn't the OP being a little overdramatic? It's hardly a gigantic plothole, even if it is one. Whether Guybrush can land on flotsam or not in this episode has nothing to do with the plot whatsoever, so what does it even matter?

2)Umm at the start, she states that she boarded with her "Grapple Hook", from i assume A Pirate ship.

~Edit And The winds of Flotsam have a bad ass reputation.

    3) Its a Giant plot hole due to the fact Ep 2 revealed Morgan Le Flay, was hunting Guybrush due to the fact of De Singe.

    2) So maybe she has a faster/better pirate ship than the one cobbled together from bits and pieces?

    3) No, you're not understanding what I said... It is -not- a giant plot hole because no part of the plot relies on The Screaming Narwhal not being able to get to Flotsam island. Sure, if you try to go to Flotsam Winslow says you can't, but at no point does this actually matter. Sure, LeFlay seems to be able to return, but since we've no idea how she got there, we can't assume that just because Guybrush can't go there that she can't.
  • edited August 2009
Everyone knows that to get to the island you have to follow a bearing of 325 and... oh wait, wrong island :p
  • edited August 2009
You are correct Surplus we cant assume that just because Guybrush CANT make it, that Morgan Le Flay cant. But i have a hard time believing the bad ass winds of flotsam cant Take Morgan Le Flays "Assumed Ship". (If it turns out to be another way of transportation, then it wont be a plot hole.)

~Also wasnt there something mentioned of the Sharp Coral Cutting the Ships Hull in Ep1?

    I'm sure Susie Maroney could!

I imagine it would explain how she is always coming out of nowhere, but not so much on why she is never wet.

Umm I doubt any1 can outswim the winds which = currents. And the coral is sharp.
As said in Ep1 Pirates all over Crashed and were stranded there? So how is a dinghy supposed to manage.

Start of Ep2 She uses a Grapple hook to get on guybrushes ship, so based on a Grapple hook she has a ship.

    She also says how
she is going to take Guybrush back to Flotsam after she has hijacked his ship
so the reason is not because her ship is better.

First, they're magic winds so they don't necessarily interact with the environment in the same way as normal wind.

Second, dingies have a significantly smaller depth and therefore would be optimal for approaching the island. This is why Guybrush always rows up to an island in a dingy and not with his giant ship.

No where do we see she has a large ship. I assumed she uses some sort of alternative method for the element of surprise.

It's the first thing that came to mind.
Pirates would also tow their ships with rowboats when the winds where down.
Granted it took a lok of men to tow a ship.
But Morgan could slip under the winds in a rowboat.
    Thus the Grapple.
But since she seems to have Guybrush's knack for using usless things, she probably made her vessel.
