An Open Letter to Conspiracy Theorists

edited August 2009 in General Chat
I am sick of everywhere I go having people talking about this BS (Yes... even here) so I decided to write this in an attempt to shut them up.

I don't blindly follow what others tell me to be true just because it is the hip thing to do. I believe what I want to believe, so by listening to your crack pot theories just because you tell me to, I wouldn't be much of a free thinker now would I? That is what I hate about your kind. You FORCE your g****** views on everybody & tell them that they are fools if they don't believe you. Let me ask you a few very important questions....

1. Did you come up with theories yourself or did you just hear them from somebody else & jump on the bandwagon? My guess is the latter... so who the hell are you to tell me to think for myself when YOU yourself don't. You call me brainwashed... fine... but you are just as brainwashed as I am. You won't admit it... but you know that you are.

2. What exactly do you hope to prove by ranting & trying to "save" everybody through the internet? Imagine that your theories are real for a minute... the world is about to be enslaved... what are you going to do? Well you can try to resist... but you'll fail miserably. A militia cannot defeat an army... it is simple as that.

3. What is your definition of a terrorist? See a terrorist is one who uses fear to control or presuade another person or group of people. What does that sound like to you? YOUR KIND!!! You go around preaching your propaganda in an attempt to as you put it "inform us of our impending doom". Wait? WHAT!? So you are telling me that we are all going to be enslaved & murdered without reason? Well to be honest, about 6 months ago, that scared me shitless, but I started thinking for myself & realised that your theories are batshit insane. All you are doing is instilling fear into innocent people's hearts for no reason!!! Even if you are right, it is pointless to do so. Why not just let people live there lives to the fullest without having to live in fear thanks to your bullshit NWO theories. You sir & your kind are no better than the ones that you are supposedly trying to "warn" us about.

Good day to you.

    Preach on my brother.

I am sick of this crap.

    Signed.

It's not that I agree or disagree with any of the sentiments stated above, but I would like to point out that the American Revolution is one example (of countless many) of a militia defeating an army.

    Powdered wigs make me giggle.

It's good to read that there are people going against the BS.

I fully support your quest against the tinfoil-hatters, but be prepared for disappointment because the average human intelligence is too low, and man's susceptibility to magical thinking too high to ever get rid of conspiracy theories, superstition, quackery and other forms of irrationality.

Keep on debunking, at least it will save some of us from this BS :)

I feel a lot of hatred in that OP. Not necessary.

There's no ying without yang. There's no butter without peanuts (or perhaps not). There's definitely place for conspiracy theories.

Keep an open mind, believe what you want to believe, discard the rest. I could write a post about how I HATE to encounter BS about 'Conspiracy theories being BS', yet I do not, since I respect your opinion. Which is what you should do with everyone else's.

Perhaps 'providing alternate insights' is what makes them live life to the fullest. Nowhere does it state that you should dedicate even a single MINUTE of your day to their banter, does it? Therefore, it should not disallow you to live your life to the fullest.

And as ReDi noted, keep on debunking. Keep exchanging views. It will not save us from 'this BS', on the contrary it will lead to more discussion. I'd call that a double-win.

Well, the army didn't have jets, tanks, bombs, nuclear technology, etc, etc... those things probably do make a difference.

An open letter to anti-conspiracy theorists:

What is a conspiracy? Do you know?

Definitions of conspiracy on the Web:
    * a secret agreement between two or more people to perform an unlawful act

Now you know. So everytime you accuse someone of deliberately breaking the law you are a conspiracy theorist. Enjoy.

ahh..i don't believe in most conspiracy theories...most of them are probably created as some kind of intelligence countermeasure to distract from other conspiracies.
  • edited August 2009
The only conspiracy theory I entertain is the one that says you can't shoot yourself if you've overdosed on an amount of heroine three times the lethal amount.

    Surprisingly, that is probably true.

There is no such thing as "lethal" amount. You can build up a tolerence to any drug if you take enough of it over time.... trust me on this one

Fair enough to a point - triple a standard "lethal" dose and then killing yourself with a shotgun which you leave no prints on is pretty unlikely.

Conspiracy theories are theories like any others. Some are based on sound logic, some are not. Some have use, others don't. Some are right, some are wrong.

Fighting against conspiracy theories is a witch hunt, because you throw unrelated theories into one drawer.

If you don't believe that the moon landing was faked (I don't either), find arguments against that theory. Don't generalize.

Granted, but you have to also look at the US military difficulties in the Middle East and, for another historical example, Vietnam. Guerrilla warfare can be extremely effective, even with a technological disadvantage.

I think the majority of you are missing the point of my post. I am not trying to get you people to denounce your beliefs & agree with me. If I was I would be no better than the ones I am damning now would I? The point that I am trying to make here is that I am getting sick & tired of conspiracy theorists forcing there views on me & others people who quite franky don't give a flying floop about what they have to say. I have friends who are conspiracy theorists & I get along with them without a problem... why? Because they don't attempt to force there views on me. When you say that you don't believe in something & a person continue to harass you about it in an attempt to (as they put it) "save" you by talking down on you & labeling you as a "sheeple" then I have a problem. That is the brand of conspiracy theorist that this is aimed towards... & the bullet is going into there brain as we speak.

Your last point seems like you've had an allergic reaction to the Daily Mail and Fox News recently.
  • edited August 2009
The whole thread reeks of reaction, don't bitch to us about it, go tell your friends to shut up or go find some better ones.

My personal opinion is that some conspiracy theories are pretty close to the truth, there IS a crackdown on freedom happening globally, governments DO lie and it's batshit insane to blindly trust authority.

But anyway, go spleen vent at your friends, you will find its more productive than bitching on the internet.

It was three times the lethal dose for even the most SEVERE heroin addict, not three times the lethal dose for a regular person (I believe it was somewhere near 75 times the amount it would take to kill someone who was using it for the first time), but anyway, I agree completely.

*sigh* You both do, but not necessarily the points you two were trying to make. Personally, I'd like to see this thread locked...

Homsar!!! Your speach is getting better each day... just a little bit longer buddy.

I think the majority of you are missing the point of my post.

that may indeed be true...at least for me it is. you're saying that conspiracy theories are mostly wrong and that you dislike said theories being forced onto you. well, forcing ones believes onto others usually is a bad idea, resulting in conflict most of the time. so far, so good...

Since you want to be all serious. Replace your conspiracy theorist, in your complaint, with a physical theorist (a physicist.) Then ask yourself those same questions, after which you will realize you are an idiot complaining about nothing.

Scholarly pursuits not your forte? Then don't associate in scholarly circles. Very simple.

Well actually... that is pretty much accurate. I never once said that they were wrong of course. I just said that I don't believe in them & that I hate those persistent SOBs who won't leave you alone about it no matter how many times that you say that you don't care. The point is that you have got your beliefs & I have got mine, so stop trying to play the role of modern day Messiah & just leave me the f*** alone about it... thing is that most conspiracy theorists can't get that shit through there head.

Ok I think I can sympathise with this, most people know some messianic prick who's out to save the world with no clue on how to save himself.

I have a friend who thinks he is being guided by fate and/or an alien god called Kryon, he has a full set of Kryon bibles and every conspiracy theory on the web is absolutely and utterly true in his eyes....yes these people are god damn annoying at times but don't tar everyone who is into anything vaguely conspiratorial with the same loonybrush.

So some of your friends caused you to genuinely question your reality for a while...it's not such a terrible thing is it? Even my loony friend has his good points, he would give you the shirt off his back if you were in need.

If these friends are truly *that* bad just stop hanging around them and tell them very clearly that they are bringing you down.

You misinterpeted my post. I said & I quote
I have friends who are conspiracy theorists & I get along with them without a problem... why? Because they don't attempt to force there views on me.

This post is directed to the internet scum who force there views on people who just don't care. Like I said, I have friends who are conspiracy theorists & I don't hate them or start crap with them over it in a feeble attempt to convert them to my way of thinking & they don't do so to me. Why? Because it is a matter of respecting each others wishes. If you are a conspiracy theorist cool with me... I'm paranoid as hell myself. Just don't bring me & countless other people who don't believe your theories into it by giving us a step by step account of why what you say is true & why everybody who sees thing differently than you is a close minded fool. Yeah the world is full of bad shit, but that doesn't mean that everything is out to get you.

    Translation of this entire thread:

No, I do not care that Obama was secretly born in Kenya. No, I do not care that Bush set up 9/11. No, I do not care that we never landed on the moon. No, I do not care that the world is going to end in 2012. I am not interested and would not like to subscribe to your newsletter.

I'd like to add that I do not care that Queen Elizabeth is an 11ft tall reptillian from draco :D

I'm not against conspiracy theorists in general. However, I do find individuals who see a conspiracy in everything to be annoying.
  • edited August 2009
I'm not happy to see people complain about "conspiracy theories" while they believe in very bad made up conspiracy theories themselves, without noticing it. Only because these theories (rather hypotheses) are official ones. Like the story about bin Laden and his friends hijacking planes etc. Never heard anything so silly before, but if you don't believe this official story, you are being attacked for your "naivity".

If someone wants to force a view onto someone else, sure, it can be annoying. But I'd not attack them for it. It might help to understand these people. They mostly do it, because they really want to help with it, or wake someone up.
Like creating this thread has the same intention maybe? Everyone has good intentions with what they are doing, just everyone has experienced different things. The old "walk a mile in my shoes, and you will understand"-deal. So personal attacks and insults lose substance, when you see it this way.

No offense, I Love you guys!

What? Are you saying that Fox News tries to force their opinions on the viewers? And ANY OTHER news station, newspaper, or talk show DOESN'T?

Oh yeah, and what in the world is the OP talking about anyway? What started this whole thing?

I'm not sure what started it, but I'd be willing to bet some posts of WARBLEGARBLE OBAMA IS KENYAN OMG or similar silliness.

But to salvage the thread, you bring up a very good point. More people need to realize that everything has a bias. Everything has a bias. It can even be biased by trying not to be biased (and giving too much press to little-known or easily discredited sides!).
