Went and saw Transformers...sigh
My Partner and I went to see Transformers today. What can I say about the experience? The Theatre was nice...good popcorn...the drinks were not watered down....I give the Easton AMC in Columbus Ohio 5 Stars. It was about halfway through the film when my girl looks at me and says "Rachel, I truly think this is the gold standard for bad movie making. This is a train wreck and I cannot look away."
Nothing in this damn film made any sense....I am so upset with Anthony Hopkins for just being there for the check. So yeah...go see it, because I am sure any charm it may have will not be as noticeable on a TV.

Why am I not surprised? The Transformers movies have always been bad. What's worse is that Michael Bay keeps making them in the same way due to the box office. No matter how bad they are, they still manage to be successful somehow.
Michael Bay is like an idiot savant when it comes to making ridiculous popcorn spectacle pieces with literally no substance anywhere.
Part of me truly identifies with his film's vapid shittiness and part of me loathes him for getting me to have any amount of enjoyment out of anything he makes.
Also, the fact he currently has 2 films on Criterion, an artist film collective institution, should say either something about art-snobs or about him as a truly ingenious action director.
This movie was a massive cluster fuck. 95% of the transformers are meaningless background characters with random lines of dialogue. Izzy is gone half the movie and is just there for absolutely no reason and randomly pops up at the final battle. Optimus is turned bad and turned good in the most eyerolling pathetic manner with little screen time. The pacing and editing were all over the place making me think the film has a case of cinema ADD. Half the deceptions are killed within 3 minutes of being introduced and the others are just there with no meaning or even acknowledgement. Megatron does next to nothing until the final battle where he doesn't do much either. The main antagonist does next to nothing and doesn't come into play the final battle for brief periods. This movie wasn't about transformers as it was a horrendous love story with a horribly forced family theme among humans with transformers in the background.
