Resident Evil Vendetta RANT (Spoilers)

Resident Evil Vendetta, while it's an enjoyable movie and better than any live-action movies, is another terrible video game movie adaptation like every movie based on video games. It's not bad but it's not great either. This movie manages to make the same mistakes as Resident Evil 6 which are:

  • Being directed by Michael Bay. Terrible action.
  • Plot armor
  • Iconic characters trying too hard to look like a badass. Like seriously? Did they really have to make Leon Kennedy act like John Wick?
  • Terrible writing.
  • Plot holes. Chris' soldiers are nothing but a bunch of liabilities because instead of shooting or running, they stand and gawk at their pursuers, Leon threw a grenade behind his back for no reason at the highway scene and Diego, the discount Bane from Batman Arkham Asylum, somehow didn't kill Chris with his hands full of muscles.
  • Terrible villain. While Derek Simmons is still the worst villain of the whole franchise, Glenn Arias couldn't live up to becoming one of the best villains in the franchise.

I'm glad that they brought Rebecca Chambers back after the events of the origins but the biggest con about her is that she had a role of damsel in distress with the "Villain kidnaps characters and forces them to accept his marriage" cliche. Wasn't Ashley Graham enough to be the only damsel in distress for this franchise?

This movie began so good, having some horror elements but after that, it's just action. I feel like Capcom should be done with using the original RE mansion because it's getting overused.

The things that I liked the most about the movie is the references from the games. Like the relationship between Chris and Rebecca from REmake, the Tyrant at the end of the movie and the Zombie dogs (But I'm wondering, why were there just 2 of them? Why are they so fast? They weren't like that in the original Resident Evil) etc.

I enjoyed this movie but it couldn't live up to be the best video game movie adaptation, like none of the video game movies are masterpieces and I'm glad Resident Evil 7 wasn't like this. But if you're a fan of Chris Redfield and/or Leon Kennedy, I'd recommend this movie to you. I'd give it a solid 5/10.
