ToMI2 - Invisible Characters

Eagerly, I downloaded and started up ToMI (the Siege of Spinner Cay)... the sound works perfectly. The backgrounds look good. The characters are slightly... invisible in many scenes. I don't know what to do to make them look solid and normal. So far, I've tried changing my screen size and set the quality down to "1" (I don't get to go above a 3 though, the option isn't there). Nothing is working.

I took a screen shot of the Voodoo Lady in the very first scene to show what I mean. Can anyone help me?
