Telltale account connection problems including possible solution.

edited July 2017 in General Chat

Since nearly all of my games are pretty much useless at the moment because I am unable to login when starting the game (works fine on their web site so it#s not my connection or a wrong password) and support seems to pretty much ignore me I am wondering. Using a google search "telltale cannot login" leads to a pretty impressing result with login problems here on Telltale since 2012 preventing people to play the games for which they paid hard earned money. Removing support staff and pushing them in a general section without having an actual forum is preventing the general public to see how often this problem still occurs because without a forum there is no way people would see. It might also be that this thread here will be deleted or moved into somewhere where you won't find it because support topics are not wanted in the forums like I said. But this is not a support topic, it is a complaint topic. I am pretty sure that the number of people experiencing this issue is really high and so I wonder if Telltale is ever going to check server connection on THEIR side. I highly doubt it as much as I doubt that anybody from the Telltale staff will post here or even reply because they already have our money. Pretty sad that this once great little company who cared for their customers pretty much now has the crappiest support I've EVER witnessed and is clearly showing that you aren't important anymore the moment you paid your money. I now DO remember why the last game I bought was in 2014 - unfortunately I bought 5 games yesterday which I cannot login to ... support told me everything I told them I already did and then did not want to talk with me anyomore ... but this experience will refresh my memory that much that I won't make the same mistake again.

  • I highly doubt it. I'm almost certain that the emails they've sent me saying "we think we have solved the problem" is them just waiting a few days and sending the same "change your password and it should work" shtick. In a way, I feel bad for Jessica, as she has been the one replying to me each time... over the course of probably 20 emails of me saying changing the password does not work.

They need to do something about their servers. Maybe they should check the firewall or change their password 1000 times to only a-z, A-Z and 0-9. Maybe that would work.....

  • Yes, it's Jessica for me as well (maybe the only one who is working at those tickets). I know it's not her fault but it would be far more easy if we would at least get the FEELING that somebody is caring - meaning if somebody would talk to us here in the forum, the way it was a long time ago. It's a strange thing how Telltale seems to be unable to get their servers going. I doubt they have really tested them. Imo they should just drop that DRM crap so people could enjoy the games. Because of this whole "it's on your side" nonsense today I deinstalled my anti virus to try it and now I am unable to reinstall it and in 5 hours I'll have to go to work again. My evening is completely ruined because of Telltale now ... maybe tomorrow... hope dies last.

  • "Hello,

Thank you for your patience. We may have resolved this issue. Please log into the website and change your password from the Settings tab. When you do so please make sure your password only contains a-z, A-Z, and 0-9 characters.

Once you have changed your password through the Settings tab, you should be able to log into the game.

If you still experience issues after trying these steps, please let us know."

That was sent to me today about 6 hours ago. Of course it did not work. Just like it didn't work the last few times they said it was fixed. I've been dealing with it for the past...I'd say 2 weeks? Everyday I change my password multiple times and try it out. No dice.

It is about to make me not buy anymore games from them again, at first, I figured they were going to be a good indie company of "choose your own adventure" style games, much like Quantic Dreams (who I adore and will forever buy their games).

But this bull? No. They hide complaints so that you can't find them and don't solve issues. I'm honestly surprised that this thread and the other one has not yet been "moved" to closed discussion. It is a horrific business practice.

  • Try changing your password back to what it was when you originally started playing the game, and see if that fixes anything.

It probably won't, but hey, worth a shot.

  • I wouldn't count on it anytime soon.

I made a huge mistake and even uninstalled my anti virus to test everything. Now I am not able to install it back again. Thank you Telltale for ruining my day completely. I have slept for 4 hours because I tried to get my anti virus back working. Then I went to work and now at home again I tried to login again ... guess what ... even with my non functional anti virus it is still not working. I tried to ping their server and get a timeout so I whonder what the problem could be ... before you say it could be my LAN internet connection - I don't have any problems to download the episodes themselves.

But maybe poor Jessica will tell me today that they have resolved this issue and that I should try to dance while changing my password to unsecure letters and praying to god.

Did I say how wonderful it would be if just ONE Telltale staff member would ever post here? I mean not for advertizing but actually to KEEP customers?

Edit: Quite a few people here
    https://telltale.com/company/

And not one single person is able to talk to customers or fix a CRUCIAL issue? Unbelievable.

  • I'm going to end up banned if she tells me one more time to change my password to only alphanumerical.

Because I will say some not very nice words in response, along with a whole lot of sarcasm.

  • Thank you but that is not possible since the password I used when the game was still working is a password which is not long enough because of the changed rules and therefore it won't be accepted. In addition the other games are new so it never worked for them.

201 views - I guess the number of unsatisfied customers is far more higher then Telltale wants to admit.

  • Same issue. Same support response. If I use an incorrect email address it tells me it is incorrect so I know that there is no issue talking to their authentication servers. I've reset my password all ways possible and tried entering it in multiple games all ways possible. I'm 100% happy there is no issue on my side. Happy to have telltale support teamviewer into my PC and watch me replicate the issue if they want to actually get to the bottom of this.

  • Actually strangely there is one game it is working (at least for me) - The Walking Dead Season 1. No problem to sign in with this game. But you are right, the fact that an incorrect e-mail will be recognized and that it's possible to resend a link to the typed e-mail shows that there is no general connection error. I tried to ping ttg.io today and got a time out (no problem typing zthis in my browser and access the Telltale page) - maybe it has to do with this.

Unbelievable but I managed to solve my login issue. The password never was the problem. The problem for me was the e-mail adress which needs to be entered CASE SENSITIVE as well when you are trying to login while in the game even though it does not need to be case sensitive when using login on the web site. It seems as if the server is recognizing the e-mail without any problems no matter what (otherwise the "forgot password" function would not function which it does) but for the login the e-mail needs to be precisely the way it is stored in the database (which Telltale should not do. Normally in such cases you take whatever is in the e-mail field make it lower or uppercase and compare it with whatever is stored in upper or lowercases - meaning e-mail is not case sensitive which simply is the way e-mail adresses should be handled. Password case sensitive e-mail not case sensitive - but at the moment this is not the case here so maybe give it a try.

I'm not sure if it was that or not, since my email is always lowercase, BUT I changed my password (yet again...) today and VOILA! I could sign in.

After about a month, I was pretty freaking happy. Now to see how season 3 of TWD is. Woohoo.

P.s. I think they were working on the servers last night, because when I tried it last night instead of getting the "incorrect password" message, I was getting a "cannot connect to servers" message.

  • In the end it does not matter as long as we can now play - finally :)

  • I couldn't sign in either. Said incorrect password. Reset it, wrote the password I previously had that was supposed to be incorrect, said password has not changed. No shit really? Changed it and something weird happened, the menu just vanished, had to use task manager to close the game.
