Interface

Sorry but I find the movement and control interface to be the most frustrating and awkward of any game I have ever played - any suggestions to make it easier to master?

A lot of people actually do use the keyboard for ToMI. I personally use the mouse drag too, though. I find using one hand is more relaxing, which is how I like to play my adventure games :D

I love the mouse dragging! In the begging it wasn't that comfortable but for the second chapter it was a great replacement of the point&click for me.

I don't mind the mouse drag but it needs a better point of reference as to where you're dragging. It feels finicky and imprecise.

The only situation I found it awkward was at the bottom of the steps on Jerkbait... Guybrush kept facing the other way and running back up!

Yeah same here... happened to me three times in a row.. so I decided to be smart and use the keys only to push the wrong key and send him back up anyway :(

But apart from that the controls were ok in my opinion.

Practice by tying a bungee cord to your cat and drag it around the house.

I use the keys... the dragging doesn't make ANY sense at all and is just in the game thanks to a Wii version (only reason I can come up with).

You have to click on all the objects, so why change that for walking....
Clicking an object does make Guybrush walk to it automatically, so why not implement that for walking in general.

I can honestly say that I hate... no LOATH the dragging interface.

That and the "combining" interface are the only problems in the game... they both feel like they weren't thought through very well.

it doesn't ruin the game, but a more thought out interface would have made the game a lot more enjoyable. the arrow keys work ok enough though.

I don't like the controls either, so I'm using my wiimote now. I've posted my control scripts here, so if you have a wiimote (+ nunchuk optionally) you should give it a try. It feels a lot better!

Using the Wiimote on the PC version? Could you link to your control scripts?

I assume you know how to use these scripts. (You will need the program Glove Pie of course. If you have problems with connecting ask Mr Google, he has plenty of Howtos :) )

i'm kinda used to the dragging now.
It grows on you, so just keep on trying.
it's indeed relaxing when you just have to use your mouse.

Did anyone else accidentilly clicked on the "go back to entrance" icon instead of the inventory?
I did a LOT just because I'm sooo used to the other point and clicks out there where there is a treasure chest or a box or some doohickey as an inventory.
It's really annoying when you want to combine card with the altar just to find yourself back at the entrance... LOL :D

I found I did that a lot after playing Sam & Max. That button is in the same place the inventory is in S&M.
