Is there any official or unofficial listing of what exactly is changed in the updated version?

I mean, I didn't encounter any sound issues, sure there were a few bugs but nothing game breaking.. but since my girlfriend is trying to re-solve it I am wondering whether is it worth it to dl the updated version or not?

The updated it? Holy crap awesome sticks.

This is great! It'll put a stop to everyone complaining!

My ears told me to say thanks from them!

    So... THANK YOU GUYS! :D

    Ha!
I'm selling my buggy copy of chapter 2 on Ebay as a rare piece of Telltale history!

I think it will sell for at least $4mill.

Wait, does it update it before the game loads? If it does... a little false advertising wouldn't hurt... :)

Cant thank them enough! The new version rock! :)

Yeah, because that's really what's important here. The fact that it stood in the way of people's enjoyment of a game is minor. </sarcasm>

Anyway, can you just uninstall the old version and reinstall the new one? What happens to your savegames?

Considering how short these games are and have little replay value once you know the solution, I don't think that's an issue.

    Is it a joke? I hope it's a joke! I love jokes.

I wouldn't really recommend it, but in theory you can open the setup file with 7-zip, and just extract the updated voice file. Then you go to your installed game, rename the original voice file, drop the new one in the same directory and hope it works.
    But that's just me.

Or if you are really worried about your saves, you can always backup them up (usually located in your documents in a folder named Telltale Games), then reinstall the whole thing.

Remember, I don't work for Telltale. This is just some personal opinion.

Oh, and THANKS, TELLTALE, for the update! You rock!

Your save games carry over to the new installation automatically. Just keep the old game installed, and install the new one. The installer sorts it all out for you.

I'm genuinely chuffed that Telltale listened, especially as I wasn't expecting a retroactive fix. I had hoped that the thread would cause them to rethink future audio, but this is really above and beyond. Thank you. :)

Great news! I'm glad to see TTG providing post-release fixes for it's episodes. Any word on what the supposed other bugfixes are?

It is just a sound fix, the only change is a much bigger voice file (44M versus the original 15.5M). Other files are unchanged; even the spelling mistakes stay intact.

Okay, I guess Mojo was misinformed, then.

Well, here's something I never thought would happen: an internet petition just caused a company to change something. Yep: the Official "It doesn't have to be so friggin' compressed" petition at the Telltale forums has yielded results, and now The Siege of Spinner Cay sounds a little better. I myself never encountered these issues, but hey. They've also fixed a few bugs that cropped-up throughout the game.

    Thank you Telltale Games!

A step in the right direction.
  • edited August 2009
Well, seeing as this copy will be on the DVD, and I've already finished Spinner Cay, I don't feel like I need to download this. Also, I experienced no voice issues, so, yeah. But for everyone who did, this is great news!

Definite improvement on the dialogue front. Elaine's "s" sounds no longer make my speakers sound like they are screaming out in pain.

We posted it in the different sound related threads on the forum. It just went up last night, after almost everyone went home.

You should be able to just install over the top, but if you want to uninstall, the uninstaller should ask you if you want to keep your saves. (If it doesn't ask you that before you get to what seems like the step right before it starts removing things, my advice would be to not uninstall :) But I'm pretty sure it lets you keep that data.)
  • edited August 2009
I can confirm that you get to keep your savegames if you just install the new version on top of the old one.
  • edited August 2009
Awesome that the sound's been fixed. = ) Hopefully later on we'll see a version that fixes the typos and the two or three large bugs during the latter portion of the game; even if only on the Season DVD.

Nice work guys, there's at least minor improvements over most characters in the game and a damn big improvement with Elaine, I've made a little comparison of the two versions for folks to listen to and judge for themselves if the re-download is worth it (I think it is, just listen to Elaine from 17 seconds onwards!).

I wanted to repost this on the happy "thank you" thread rather than continue to bump the unhappy "friggin'" thread.

Thanks, Ash, for uploading this. It really illustrates what a huge improvement this new version is. I'm sorry, but I still can't believe that some people couldn't hear the problems!
  • edited August 2009
No problem, just wanted to post it so other people could get a more precise listen of the two versions but the new version really is an improvement over the first, some characters now have more "booming" vocals too which gives them more life. So thanks TellTale for doing this.
  • edited August 2009
    Thanks :)

Does that mean the next episode will have a bigger voice file, of will there be a choice between the two or something?
  • edited August 2009
I just played through a chunk of the updated version and it sounds absolutely great, much, much nicer, it's a shame we have had to take some flak from other users over this but in the end it was worth it.

    Great stuff :)

    A MILLION THANK YOUs!

    Compression reduced, check!
    Distortion on sibilance removed, check!
    Pops and clicks removed, check!

I'm literally grinning from ear to ear while playing (listening to!) the new version.

And here's to hoping I'll never have to cringe and/or shudder while playing a future TT games release!

Thank you, thank you, THANK you, Telltale! I'd be doing cartwheels if there was a similar downloadable patch for "A Vampyre Story." Really -- mondo respect for this classy move!
