Bands I totally dug when I was younger, but now I've gone soft (kinda).
I feel like breaking tradition with these things and I'm going to post favourite bands I recommend
She & Him - bringing back a 50's sensibility with some amazing female voc work and amazing guitar as well
Basia Bulat - A brilliant female artist who brings a good chunk of soul into her work with a neat upbeat sense to the rhythm
Meaghan Smith - Another bright young woman singer & song writer, has a nice touch of jazz and soul in her music, paired with more gentle and warming music.
Talking Heads - I really recommend this for anyone who has just heard a few of their singles, and are in doubt about the rest of their repertoire. They've got a killer list of singles as well as their album stuff.
Cuff the Duke - An amazing small time Canadian band who bring a really neat country-esque flavour but get some nice rock rhythm/melodies going.
Jenny Lewis - Ever seen the 80's film, "The Wizard". Yeah, this is the girl from that film, and she's got an amazing voice and some of her work is phenomenal.
Oscar Peterson Trio - If you've never heard of him, your parents probably have. The most amazing jazz pianist to date, and a good chunk of his songs are great to listen to at any occasion.
Spinnerette - Brody Dalle from the Distillers, kicking ass in a new sound.
Yann Tierson - The man made music from typewriters and found objects beautiful with French sensibilities. You must check him out.
Michael Giacchino - Absolutely love the work he does for Pixar. Amazing film music composer.
My favorite band ever is the Barenaked Ladies. And I get to see them live for the first time in a couple of weeks!
I don't listen to enough Barenaked Ladies, the only albums of there's I own is the greatest hits and the kids album Snacktime (for some reason) from what i've heard so far I dig most of their stuff but I have a particular soft spot for Brian Wilson
Here's a list of my favorite bands, in no particular order
Megadeth
Metallica
Spineshank
Silent Civilian
Stabbing Westward
The Dreaming
System of a Down
Serj Tankian
Nirvana
The Offspring
Nothingface
Rammstein
Nuclear Rabbit
Tool
A Perfect Circle
Tenacious D
Static-X
Slipknot
Disturbed
Ah everyone has such varied taste...I'm slightly jealous. I can't enjoy music based on technical ability, in fact I'm more likely to like something if it sounds scrappy and unpolished.
I think the best the Talking Heads ever came up with, beside of their super successful Little Creatures album was David Byrne's Soundtrack for TrueStories. Also quite nice for softer music is Richard Ashcroft's (from The Verve) fiirst solo album Alone with Everybody. I'm surprised no one mentioned Pink Floyd or King Crimson already.
My favorite music? Meditation, Alpha, Meta, theta waves...
Concentration music
I don't listen to music with words anymore.
I listen to waves, brain wave music...
That music is very peaceful. Sometimes I can't listen to my regular music, because they are too emotion stirring for me. (I tend to get very affected by music) so if I'm in a bad mood I'll feel worse. That's when I put on my little waterfall, flute, meditation music.

Though I think I've seen The Killers as many times as I've seen Nightwish, so that must mean they're also one of my favs....
Falanca: sorry, they're not bare, naked or ladies.
And sorry dude, but they're fully-clothed men.

Oh, and Queen, but that goes without saying.
