Bane was really interesting in episode 3! (EPISODE 3 SPOILERS)

I really enjoyed Bane this episode. While as usual he doesn't trust you he seemed just a little sympathetic at certain moments. Like when you show to be upset by the people Freeze killed, Bane rather than grill you for it says we live in a sick world and it's best not to struggle against it. I enjoyed that little line of dialogue as it seemed to me in that moment that Bane at least to some degree isn't heartless. Another moment is when he expresses pity for what Bruce is about to face with Harley and that he hopes Bruce isn't the mole.

I also rather enjoyed seeing a bit of Bane's intelligence as he proves to read Bruce rather well. When Bruce leaves Wayne Enterprises unscathed he talks about how there was something about that determined look in his eye. He catches on rather quickly that you're scouting the area and that this is project lotus. One more interesting thing is if you sacrifice Catwoman. When Bruce tries to save her and Bane holds him back. He says "I've seen that look in your eye before. The one you get when another man is about to be killed." He had Bruce read pretty well. Better than even Harley.

Point is I really enjoyed Bane this episode

  • I really hope that Bane doesn't get fucked up by the other Pact members, he's the most appealing out of all of them IMO. Except for John maybe, if you even want to count him as Pact.

  • During my playthrough I kinda just viewed Bane as someone I have to take down eventually. I told Freeze his science was impressive and Bane told Freeze I really was cut out for this type of life. But you're right, we did see another side of Bane this episode, including some of his humanity. It'll be interesting to see if Bruce gets the chance to let The Pact go at some point (which will infuriate Waller obviously), since he's getting closer to them and seeing that they're not 100% evil monsters 24/7.

  • What if you counted the Riddler? Just curious who you like the most out of those two.

  • What impressed me about Bane this episode is that he actually was going to step in and help Bruce with the GCPD when Gordon arrested him in Wayne Tower. That did leave me feeling a touch guilty about slipping him the serum and leaving him behind last episode.

That moment also leads to some interesting questions regarding what Waller and Avesta were discussing regarding a mole in the Agency. If there is in fact a mole, I don't believe they're associated with the Pact, but Project Lotus. If they were associated with the Pact, the Pact would already have knowledge that Bruce / Batman is working for the Agency. No need to search for an exposed leak providing that the mole is a member of the Agency itself.

  • I didn't get a scene with Avesta and Waller discussing a mole in The Agency. Is it determinant, or did I just miss something?

  • Did not get that scene either. I assume you must have shown her some degree of loyalty for that to happen. I sided with Gordon episode 1 and 2.

  • Has nothing to do with Gordon. I've been on his side the entire time and I still got Waller talking about the mole.

  • I'd say only Harley has a chance of getting away plus John actually asks Batman to spare her. Correct me if I'm wrong but out of the pact members only Harley and John appear in the your choices section alongside Gordon etc. Kinda points out that Harley is more important than Bane and Freeze story wise.

  • I like how Telltale handled Bane in this season. He is actually very intellectual in the comics, going as far as figuring out Batman's identity on his own, so I'm glad Telltale didn't just make him a hulking tower of muscle in their interpretation of the character.

Okay, I think I know which scene people keep talking about, but they don't specifically say there's a mole. (unless it's a certain scene/dialogue that I just didn't get)
They talk about it a bit in Bruce's office.
Bruce: "...You're not one to let things slip through the cracks"
Waller: "It's terrible on my part, I know. Whoever has been conspiring around me, they're going to regret it."
Also in that conversation, we hear that SANCTUS was shut down long before Waller took control. She was sent in to rectify or cover up their past mistakes, but it seems that she had no idea SANCTUS was still in operation (or maybe she did, but she had no idea where they were hiding. "If I'd have known where they set up their den, I would have taken them out years ago.") It's just a small thing brought up in conversation, but it seems that someone has kept her from finding the truth.

I do agree that Bane -- and any other member of the Pact (maybe less for Freeze) -- have been characterised really well so far. Bane isn't just a tank with muscles, he's a really smart guy (something that is in parallel to how he is in the comics, or so I've heard. I like this version. He's way more menacing.) Being undercover is really useful for a character perspective, because since they consider us their ally, they open up a bit more. I hope Telltale doesn't throw these villains in the trash by the end of the season, I'd love for some them to return.

  • I also liked how Bane showed up to Wayne Tower because he thought Bruce might need help. Despite being a walking bicep who kills his own men, he does have this strange intelligence and sense of loyalty.

  • Huh. I don't think he was doing this to "help", no. He is clearly is very suspicious of Bruce.

  • It's revealed in episode 2 that Loyalty is very important to him and I really like that. He's also got this kind of comradery with his men. He calls them "My friends."

Yeah the development with him was interesting this episode.

  • Wait there is a way to see him at the wayne tower ?

  • No, he mentions it in the alley....He says he showed up to Wayne tower to help him with the GCPD.

  • I got chills when Bane found Bruce in the alley. He doesn't have any emotional depth as say Harley or John to make me feel attached to him, but he's definitely been a good character so far.

And his theme song is eerie and I love it. You can hear it just before he headbutts Bruce. Jared Emerson-Johnson did an amazing job with his track. How it starts up with those eerie female vocals. I can't wait for Round 2 and I pray we get a round fuckin 2.

  • I'd really love for the developers to include a way of indulging in the game's music in the Batcave. There's so much to appreciate this season, but it might not be possible. Maybe for a Season 3 they might consider putting something like that together, but you're absolutely right. The track is fantastic.

  • There's some debate regarding that, and honestly I haven't done a Gordon play through to definitively tell you. I know the exact wording for it during the conversation isn't mole, and it occurs after the Tiffany conversation when the door opens to Waller and Avesta. You have a chance to hear part of what they were speaking about while you were talking to Tiffany.

I loved the scene in the alley. In most continuities, Bane's been turned into a simple physical threat for Batman to overcome. The writers always seem to ignore that the character's original incarnation was a genius as much as a powerhouse. (One of the inspirations used for Bane was Doc Savage.)

Although Telltale's Bane isn't the prodigy seen in the comic books, he was still cunning enough to track Bruce down to the black site. I get the impression that he takes advantage of being perceived as a slow-witted brute so he can get the drop on his enemies, much like how Detective Columbo used his disheveled appearance to trick killers into underestimating him.

I'd love it if there was any way Telltale would let us get a hold of this music, without having someone rip it from the game files. (And... I'm on console for this so it's not even an option for me)
GodsFriendChuck --a youtuber who does rip the music-- has been pretty inactive since the finale of ANF.. And that's a shame because I know there was some pretty good background music in GOTG that I wanted to hear without all the extra scene noise.

  • Good luck. I'm still waiting for them to officially release The Devil's Playhouse soundtrack.
Jared? C'mon buddy ole pal(I know you've previously released some of them. Thanks!). See, people still love video game music!

  • I appreciate Riddler, but a few episodes later I've already found that I've forgotten about him. Maybe if Bane died just as early instead I'd have more time to grow attached to Riddler, he just didn't make much of an impact.

  • I mean, you don't have to be an evil monster 24/7 to be an evil monster. It would be too cartoonish if literally everything they did was the most evil thing imagineable. But their body counts are all ridiculously high, why would you want any of them to go free?

  • that's true. But my Batman did make the deal with John, and told him he'd spare Harley as long as she didn't hurt any innocent people. Also, as far as I know, John technically hasn't killed anyone yet (not counting him causing Zsaz to freakout in S1). At worst John has just been a getaway driver and thief alongside Harley in the Pact so far (I bribed Bullock so he never beat him with the tire iron).
