Roe Island

edited August 2009 in Tales of Monkey Island
Just wanted to voice my appreciation of Roe Island, and whoever designed that particular enviroment in Ep. 2.

Yes it's only a small area but the depth of the jokes, lables and good quality puzzles it triggered ment that this was the first moment that I felt these games have truely lived up to their herritage. I was fun to click on stuff just to see what happened and how Guybrush responded.

Thanks Telltale. So I guess my question is which other areas/puzzles/dialogue transported people back to those heady days of 1992?

(not that Tales hasn't been progressive in it's own right as well)

the place itslef was great yeah. the design, the jokes, you said it all.
But it still was a bit disapointing that you didn't have a bit more to actually do there : you only got to interact with stuff in the manatee puzzle, and then you never had a reason to go back there.

Well.... Not yet anyway. You never know.

Hahaha, Spadge you need to embed some kind of ominous music if you're going to say things like that.

I too loved the atmosphere on Roe island and hope we get to go back, if only so I can use those nice cans.

    I expect that to happen.
    Speculation:
The Path of the mouth could have a meaning. It's also referred to in the Journal

I felt spinner cay itself surpassed ANYTHING monkey island has been able to come up with. Yes, it is unfortunately rather small and does not have many areas to explore but the sheer colour, moody music, waters, the glowing lamps, the beautiful backgrounds and statues.... i can't think of any other location in MI which can even come close to it.

I just realised that this is a Roe island thread. My bad.

Roe Island was fantastic, the atmosphere, music, everything.

I actually didn't really like Spinner Cay much... the pallet seemed too cool for an MI location or something... don't know... there was just something not right about it.

You mean there was something FISHY about it? ;)

Perhaps Path of the Mouth refers to the Mouth of the Leviathan Manatee.

Roe Island is most Monkey Island-ish location in second chapter

as for the first, there are two locations - DeSinge's lab and Voodoo Lady's place

Yeah, a great amount of detail went into the hut. I notice something different every time I play the game. The last time, I noticed the coconut with the Wilson face from Cast Away. Little touches like that really add a lot of personality to the environments and the game itself.

I guess the theory goes if you're going to spend more time solving puzzel/exploring in that location it's worth a bit more stuff to interact with. I liked Roe Island as it provided a good bit of character development for DeCava in the form of 'look at' commands.

In fact I disagree with this, I didn't like the atmosphere nor the small size of Roe Island, and that Merfolks just pissed me out...

Not everybody has to share your opinion, you know. For instance, I think MI2 is the worst of the MI series and MI3 is the best. I bet you hate me now!
