I just started Mass Effect and wanted to talk a little bit about it
Hey guys! So almost 9 years later, I'm playing ME for the first time. And here's some things that's been bothering me :
- Don't you think that most humans are racists? I mean, the way they talk about Aliens, it makes me cringe.
- Your character is basically a secret agent with no one above her expect the council. So why does a random a**hole comes to control the Normandy when you go back to the citadel? And again, he makes racist comments about your teammates. Wow, dude.
- Joker is a cool character but if the ship has an accident, wouldn't he break his entire skeleton?
Bonus : I always play female character when I can, so I was kind of surprise to see how "ugly" female Shepard costumization were compare to male Shepard. Female kind of looks like their faces were made out of glue or something like that haha
Now, I'm not criticizing the game, I'm enjoying it so far, I'm just curious and I just wanted to know what you guys think about these questions.
Cheers!

1.The aliens are honestly even more racist then the humans sometimes. And the turians started a war with the humans even. Definitely some issues that need to be worked out there. Does that mean most aliens are racist? No probably not. So ignore Ashley (who is pretty damn racist, even if she denies it) and you should be fine.
Yeah well you're still a part of the human Alliance like it or not. He's just making an inspection and it doesn't change anything so pump those paragon points and the result should be more than positive.
He would be prone to more damage, yes. Luckily with his piloting skills the Normandy will never have an accident. Well. Not in ME1 anyway.
And the classic male Shepard was based of an actual model whilst FemShep wasn't. They change the way her base model looks in the third game though.
As Hex said above...the humans and Turians got off to a rocky start with that little war...But yes racism is rampant in the galaxy...it is up to you to change how the Galaxy views the Alliance. I love the Mass Effect series.
As for the female model...yeah...well you get used to it....but I always liked the voice actress better for fem shep than the male actor.
The only real racist was Ashley(half-joking), but thankfully, you don't really have to talk to her. That's my opinion though. A lot of people like her... I have a theory on that(not involving racism) I'll just keep to myself. The games get much more polished after the first game, but the lore set up in the first game is better than what gets introduced later.
I loved they games and even enjoyed the last one... Even for its faults.
I love Ashley... Not as much as I do Kelly Chambers, but Ashley is one of my favorites. When it comes to squad members only, Ashley is second only to Zaeed for me.
Humans are fairly new to the scene at this point and literally entered the scene with a war with the Turians of course there are gonna be racists. Ashley is the only significant Racist though
As someone said you still represent humanity and have an alliance crew
If the ship is in an accident a lot of the crew would be hurt not just Joker so ya I guess.
I never really saw Ashley as a racist, just someone who is slow to trust aliens, is not as eager as others to place her immediate faith in aliens, and yet she would still co-operate with the alien squad mates Shepard adopts into their crew.
Granted there are some opinions she expresses that could be perceived as racist, but I doubt the aliens of Mass Effect are any better towards humans themselves. Not only that, there are organizations that hold undeniably racist and hostile ideologies towards aliens, which Ashley does not agree with one bit.
Besides, the word racist is a very broad term which anyone can simply give to someone who behaves less than friendly or trusting towards other races, but not to the extent that it makes them evil or bad people.
You are a spectre, You are above the law but still as a commander under the human alliance.
Racism is an issue in the first ME, you handle it or you don't.
Also animations in ME and all of the other yes right up to Amdromeda...sucks I mean really really sucks
The whole entire series has that awkward end conversation/turn head/turn body/walk away animation. I find it funny now, but it used to bother me how unnatural it was.
Love the game my Shepard’s not racist I was with liar threw all the games but yea I think most races in the game have race issues
To me it's just a mindfu*k how a game that generally looks good with nice textures good story looks so awfull in motion.
I think it is because the game used the new engine. I know that another of Bioware's games used it Dragon Age 3 and that game looked good for it's time however, I think that they were living off the hype of that game and it transitioned horribly. I hated in Mass Effect Andromeda's activating the vaults because it was repetitive and took way to long and the number of times you had to do it was crazy. The animations were meh but the eyes and face were terrible the eyes were way to big and the eyeballs would look around randomally at times while they were talking to you. I will admit the game environments looked nice and the story was ok.
Gameplay: Honestly, best of the franchise. It had that going for it(I mean combat).
Yes the combat was cool and switching classes on the fly was great. I just wish there was more depth in the character creator.
