MI should be on DS!

I was just thinking how cool it would be if they put the Monkey Island games on DS! No changes to anything. Just be on the DS. This way, you can play it anywhere you are and showing it to your friends would be easier :D

You can play the first two... with a homebrew cart.

    This was discussed before.
They had enough trouble getting it on the wii so there is pretty much no chance for the DS and also the DS has 2 screens and there would be no use for one.

I don't see how Tales could ever work on the DS. But it'd be cool to see the original two ported over to it. With the popularity of things like Brain Training and Proffesor Layton, it's odd that they haven't yet..

    I'd buy it again :)

It works quite well on the DS with ScuumVM. Apparently you never played it on the DS before.

You can also play it on the PSP too. Few slowdowns but it is overall playable.

I started with an abacus. Yes, it looked exactly like this:

I stored my music on it too.

What is ScummVM? I keep hearing about it and want it because I want all the old games on DS, is it easy to do/use?

I can see a bit of confusion in this thread. When you say Monkey Island should be on DS which Monkey Island are you talking about here? Tales, the classics, both?

Tales control scheme wouldn't lend itself to the DS very well, though remakes LucasArts should think of, look at Broken Sword, it got a whole enw lease of life on both Nintendo consoles. Voice acting's the big issue as I think a DS cart can only hold 128MB....maybe 256, that said, you could compress it tons and noone would notice, what with the speakers hardly being top of the range

I don't think the speakers would be a problem, more like computing power and design. Hunting tiny objects on an ultra-low-resolution screen isn't exactly fun. Plus you wouldn't exactly get high quality visuals anyway. The more I think about it, the more I would consider making the visuals entirely 2D-only so you can have antialiasing which is really a requirement at such a low resolution. Control wise, I'd say: Stick to the W&G controls. First because it doesn't require you to actually spot these tiny objects and secondly because you only have one real directional pad other than the touchscreen... (which is really too tiny for mouse emulation). The thing is, what do you do with the second screen? You could show a map, but that would alter gameplay quite a bit. Closeups of the characters? Sounds like a good idea, especially considering that this too could be done in 2D. Inventory? Hell, yes!

I've played Sam & Max hit the road on the ds WITH voice acting :) worked fine (with SCUMMVM) furthermore a homebrew card can use a micro SD card :) I myself got 8gb :)

The only problem for MI3/MI4/TMI is the screen resolution and the cpu power you need I think :)

I have now played Secret of Monkey Island, LeChuck's Revenge, Sam and Max and Day of the Tentacle all the way through on my DS, the latter two being full talkie, with no problems whatsoever. Brilliant piece of software.

The iPhone version of Secret of Monkey Island: SE was around 128MB, if I recall correctly. It still looks great, has all the voices, and is very playable.

I could see it ported to the DS pretty easily, and then hopefully a LeChuck's Revenge remake very shortly afterwards.

I suppose the problem they have with SOMI:SE is that it would require a physical release for the DS whereas all the other formats were solely digital. If Nintendo offered DLC for the DS it would be more likely.

Yeah. I think it could work. Basic 3d could be used, as shown by many games that have been made for it. The W&G controls would work fine, using the arrows to move. As for the second screen, you could either have a small iconic menu up the side, and then you touch those to get onto different aspects of the screen, so a Map, the inventory, etc. Also, as you say, close ups of characters and dialogue could also be done in the second screen too... The only problem would be is converting it into DS format really, which wouldnt be very easy to do.
