GPU Overclocking Help
Hi guys,
I have no idea what Overclocking is and I'd want to know more about it, i've watched much of the youtube videos andd many are recommending it eventhough it voids the warranty of your PC components. They say it's because GPUs when overclocked can perform just like the higher tiers GPUs.
My GPU is MSI GeForce-GTX-1060-3GT-OC which is OC Edition. And the link below are its specs
https://msi.com/Graphics-card/GeForce-GTX-1060-3GT-OC/Specification
Here are my questions:
1. By OC Edition, what does it mean?
2. What Overclocking software should I use which is saftest for my GPU, MSI Afterburner? or EVGA PrecisionX? (Others please specify)
3. What settings should I change and what numbers/options to set them to
Thanks

"OC Edition" means that the GPU has already been overclocked. You can still overclock it further though.
MSI Afterburner is supposed to be the simplest, easy to use, software. Personally, I've just used PrecisionX since it came with my card anyway, but it's not exactly the simplest program.
I'm hesitant to suggest settings, since I know nothing about your build. This video may help.
Another suggestion.
More advice.
My advice. Adjust a bit, run a GPU stability test, adjust more, test more. Be careful.
I'm merely offering links here. I don't know what your build is, nor could I confidently mke suggestions if I did. These things are just test and retest.
Thanks Johro. By the way, how do manufacturers know if the buyer overclocked his GPU? for rejecting warranty claims
Only from you telling them. Some hardware manufacturers, like EVGA, have just given up. On most cards(I want to say "all", but I'm not positive), their warranty includes overclocking. I'm not sure about MSI.
Can you please recommend some settings for the msi afterburner?
I couldn't, but this person did. The second link I posted also links to these test results(which includes your card in the second picture). These were found to be the MAX stable settings, so if your card crashes mid-game, you'll want to nudge them a little lower.
Edit: Temperature limit I can help with(if your version of Afterburner has that). I generally like to set mine between 85-90, with some users going up to 92. Power or voltage shouldn't need to be touched as the hardware caps that(without modifying the physical card). Fan speed depends on how hot you're running and if the noise is bothering you.
Okay, thanks. i'll try those settings.
by the way Johro. Do you have experience in bitcoin GPU mining? how much money can i earn if i run my GPU for say 4-6 hours a day, for a year? and can it damage my GPU. i've read people commenting 8 hours a day GPU mining is safe for your PC.
No, I'm not familiar with it, sorry.
