Loom: Game-ending bug?

edited September 2009 in General Chat
I am having some difficulty with Rusty Nailbender which follows on directly from the Dragon's lair.

Bear in mind that my memory of this is incredibly rusty(but served me well thus far): I cast the reflect spell upon the sleeping Rusty in order to enter the Forge, yet upon doing so I received the "I don't think I spun that right" response from Bobbin. I thought I may have incorrectly noted down the the reflect scale(I had written it down as adda) yet upon returning to the previous screen and the exit from the dragons cave: I discovered I could no longer enter the tunnel in order to verify the information.

So I was wondering whether or not anyone knew of what I may be doing wrong or is this a bug that has eluded play testers? I seem unable to proceed and unable to back-track.

Um... see now i'm wracking my brain for this... I never tried to backtrack I admit.

You can't go back anyway I don't believe, because of that random cave in/fall thing... but I may be mistaken.

As for the draft, um... I fear you may have to use trial and error.

Well. There are several possible reflect-drafts:
    AFFA, FAAF, ADDA
    Try them all.

That's weird. It may just be that you have to go back to the cave where you learn the reflection draft and click on the water again. Though you shouldn't need to if you've already done it.

On my version of Loom (I have the Amiga one) when I go back from the Forge to the scene with the twisted staircase, the staircase appears to be twisted, yet I can walk across the screen as though it is not (that may be a bug too). Then I can get back to the cave scene. I hope you can make it back to that scene from where you are, because that might help you!

The fact that he is saying "I don't think I spun it right" instead of "guess that isn't a draft" suggests that you are spinning the right draft, but haven't learned it yet. So I think you are getting the notes in the right order.

Best of luck, and hope this helps!!

There are a few dead ends in this game, if you forget to examine spells.

If you did click on the spell and heard it but just wrote it down incorrectly... then it is possible, you just have find the right combination :p

I learned this very lesson on my first game play-through. From then on, I wrote down every spell I encountered.

But with me it was the gold to straw spell which I forgot, and I had to start the game over again.

    Such an awesome game...

Heh, it would seem frustration seems to have been the victor. Having tried all of the above suggestions(thanks) I got rather infuriated and just started double clicking all over the cave entrance and BINGO! I somehow got back in. I am somewhat amazed that irritation has actually worked for once.:p

Thank you for all of the help. I think I may have abandoned this altogether and had to restart were it not for you assistance and my subsequent annoyance.
