Michael Land amazing soundtrack!

I extracted music from Chapter 2 with the new Telltale Music Extractor...
I found it great!!!!!! :)

Yeah, I know that it's MIDI-ish and not "live".... but Land is a genious!

Tracks like "mcgillicutty-battle-intro", "roe-island", "spinner-siege" are wonderful!!!!!!!!!! :D

True Monkey Island and 100% Michael Land Quality!!!
You can recognize his style!! "mcgillicutty-battle-intro" reminds me governor Phatt music! :p

Roe Island reminds me of a mix between Voodoo Theme and Blood Island Hotel, brilliant music in Tales, hoping for an enhanced Soundtrack CD release.

I've just noticed that the music in Episode 2 is lower quality, ..no I'm not starting that, it's just one slight level below Episode 1's quality setting.

I love the soundtrack. I just wish it was higher quality audio files as well. I mean, the visuals on the PC version appear to be high resolution, I play in 1080p and it looks great. Can't we get the audio of equal quality too?

As a side note, I would love a very high quality soundtrack compilation of the MI games. I mean, we got the CD audio MI1 and the new special edition remixes are also superb quality. I'd love to get MI3 and MI4 music of such quality.

I don't see why Telltale wouldn't do it, by the end of Season 1 there must be at least 2 CD's worth of music, if re-done by Land in higher quality (or even full blown instruments but I'm not setting my hopes THAT high) then I'm sure there are a good few people out there who'd buy it. The music so far has been bliss really, tracks like Flotsam Town, Roe Island, Spoon Isle Beach, etc have had time to bloom in their own unique quality because I'll admit, when hearing the LeChucks theme arrangement in the Prologue I wasn't that thrilled by it as it kept reminding me of the better done Curse of Monkey Island version.

Also, small, tiny, tiny note, How come the Chapter music is the same on the episodes? In Monkey Island 2 and Curse the interlude theme was changed slightly for each episode and it made each episode a bit more unique.

There were certain pieces of music in both chapters 1 and 2 that I really liked. And a lot of them remind me of music from the older Monkey Island games (though that's really no surprise!).

Shame about the quality. Listening more carefully to some music, there are some bits that must have sounded even more amazing before they were compressed for the game. They're well composed and arranged, and the quality doesn't do them justice. I wonder if Michael Land still has the uncompressed versions? I think a Tales of Monkey Island CD soundtrack would sell pretty well with the higher quality versions.

I'm pretty certain nearly all composers keep backups of their work and definetly keep Master Copies of their tracks, I don't see why Land would throw them away :p

The only problem I can think of is LA giving rights for merchandise to Telltale. But if both parties come to an agreement I think there is a pretty good chance of a soundtrack release. Just look at Sam And Max: Both seasons got a soundtrack (I own both and are excellent)

Does anyone know where you can find the ending theme when you use the extractor?

My favorite Land soundtrack definitely is The Dig, and that is all MIDI right? :)

I think the music in ToMI chapter 2 is one my favourites from the series (after MI2, of course). There are a lot of great themes, very piratey, mysterious and atmospheric. The only problem with the extractor is the fact the tracks are pretty short (they're supposed to loop) so I'm really waiting for a soundtrack album with - hopefully - longer versions of the tracks.

I love the organs used in the soundtrack. Makes Tales sound more like the first two games.

is it? i've had a copy of the CD for years and still listen to it pretty regularly, but it's been forever since i've played the game. i'm sorely tempted to re-buy it from steam, though. it's one of my all-time favorite games.

was 'outlaws' the first game where they used CD audio in a SCUMM-like environment?

it's weird, but the music isn't noticeable to me in ToMI. It just doesn't seem to be "on display" like the old games, where you can't help but learn the songs.

I'm absolutely blown away by how compressed and poor quality these audio files are.

    About MIDI ..

Keep in mind that MIDI is just a protocol to control a synthesizer/sampler/drum machine (and so on..). The sound quality is therefore always depending on the midi responding sound source.

But maybe you all knew that.. it's just that sometimes I feel that people that use the term "MIDI" doesn't really know what it is.

MIDI is still used daily by music producers.. to control midi responsive devices.

MIDI = Musical Instrument Digital Interface .. btw.. :)

I think that someone knows it, me at least :)
What I was saying is that you *FEEL* music artificial, like those old "Sound Blaster MIDI Synth" where trumpet, bass, and flute where all made by Sin, Square o Triangle waveform... you could feel that they were not real... "beep beeeeeep"!:p

So, in TOMI it's quite clear that they used a MIDI-like interface to make music.
We were talking of artistic quality, not audio quality. It's obvious that a real instrument is better than faking with an artificial one, unless you really want that effect!

Well, what you written in the last sentence after the comma says it all :).. It's depending on what you want to achieve.

Anyway, I also have to second that the music in TOMI is excellent! :)

yes, exactly. most people think midi automatically means synthy NES sounds. it just depends on whatever patches you put over the midi. there are plug ins these days that would fool all but the most seasoned producers.
