Where is Telltale on the Switch?

I was looking forward to being able to play my Telltale games portably without dealing with the cut down phone versions, and so I was eager when Telltale announced plans for the Switch. Now we've got MC Story and Batman S1, but not GOTG (which was announced) and nothing on the horizon about any other Telltale projects hitting the Nintendo platform. What happened? Where did Telltale go?

Considering the layoffs and new management i’m guessing a lot of stuff got pushed back, including this.

  • Im guessing Telltale has trouble producing cartridges (which seems to be a issue for devs) and seeing Telltale is overall rather small, Im guessing that is the main reason, cartridges are too much of a hassle.

I dont see why they just go full digital for Switch though...

  • This was my guess as well. That, and perhaps they wanted to use Batman and Minecraft sales as a barometer to see how much interest is in the Switch market before they look into future ports.

  • I feel like they made a bad choice of barometer then. Those two are awesome, but old, so a lot of potential fans are lost because they've played them already. If they could have rolled out something newer like The Enemy Within with S1 it might have made a stronger impact

  • Agreed so much, or the heavy-hitters like TWD (S1 or Collection) or TftB (which I assume they probably don't have rights to re-release on Switch).

I find people beg for switch ports/ports to nintendo consoles then when a developer does port a big 3rd party game to test the waters hardly anyone buys them. DOOM performed pretty badly and Wolfenstein 2 probably will as well. Nintendo Switch is an exclusive machine, the big support for 3rd parties just isn't there.

I heard Bethesda said Switch sales for them were positive and were planning on continuing making more games for Switch

Since telltale were the publishers they do own TFTB so they can release it were they want.

Bethesda has stated there happy with there switch port sales

Ports don’t have to sell a million copies to be considered successful or turn a profit.

I don't think it's a rights issue; I think it's rather them treating it from a corporate point of view, meaning that they look at how big the IP are instead of choosing to opt for their best game quality with Walking Dead S1, Wolf S1, and Tales.

Keep in mind that, even with Telltale's engine being made to accommodate porting between consoles, that porting isn't a cheap process. And also, with Telltale switching (pun not intended) to Unity soon, they probably figure that further altering their tool to run on Switch might not be worth the long term work if they are switching to Unity in a matter of time.
