That gameplay footage looks pretty cool

Not sure how I feel about how Clem dealt with that group of zombies. She "stunned" one by kicking it in the knee then while it was on it's knees she killed one right by it. I feel like the zombie on its knees would have just grabbed her while she was killing the other one 6 inches away, but I guess a knee kick stuns them and makes them completely stop attacking for a few seconds for gameplay reasons.

Now that AJ is an actual person I hate him a little less, still not gonna sacrifice Clem to save him, if that's where the season ends up and I'll be damned if I buy any more TellTale Walking Dead games if Clem ends up having to die to save AJ like Lee died because of her. Dude all but blatantly said there'll be more TellTale Walking Dead games but this is definitely Clementine's last game. If they kill her to save AJ and expect him to be the new Clem that won't fly with me.

Pretty Cood? Are you kidding me? That was the most immersive Telltale gameplay I've seen since TWD Season 1!!!

  • That gameplay was pretty good yeah. I love how they fixed the animation transitions in and out of combat, and the one take section was extremely well-done in my opinion. The way it switches from first person to third person was seamless and very immersive.

(Reposting this here, feels way more fitting.)

It all feels way more immersive. The over the shoulder camera really does add a lot to it. Also, the one-shot effect during the final action sequence felt really good.

That major choice was kinda laughable to me, but I get what they're trying to do. You're showing AJ different values. Still, not killing the walkers and sending AJ toward potential dangers is... incredibly stupid and nonsensical. The option kind of took me out of "the zone" for a moment.

Really liked the item descriptions and the "your decisions matter^TM" prompts. Of course, showing is always better than telling. Telling us our decisions will matter with these prompts add way more weight to deciding, but you need to follow through with it and have it actually matter.

Still not impressed by proximity QTE's. Noticed that they reuse the same animation during those... eh. The camera work with the scripted combat absolutely overshadowed the shine the unscripted combat had to it. But that shine is there regardless. It'll make it all somewhat more immersive and interactive, so although it has room for improvement, it's a positive regardless.

Now if only we got some details on the actual plot and conflict... I guess we're getting those closer to release in the trailer.

Need to see the menu, the choices screen... everything. Really hope they also innovated on the user interface front.

  • Gameplay is

  • the hype is worth

  • Whoever did the camera work deserves a raise.

  • AJ is always listening ;)

  • If by pretty good you mean absolutely amazing and everything we could possibly hope for then yes I agree with you.

  • Dude these graphics/dynamics blew me away! I'm glad Telltale went back to the Season 1 notes.

If by pretty good you mean absolutely amazing and everything we could possibly hope for then yes I agree with you.

  • I'm really impressed with the new gameplay mechanics. The combat is obviously a welcome change from the usual Telltale style and I love how AJ is capable of helping Clementine when she gets stuck. I also love the little "objectives" (Find Food, etc) and notes (Clem's kind of internal monologue) that pop up when you click on an object. I also hope that the "check on AJ" option signals the return of season 1-style hubs because it's very important to me that we really are given a chance to learn about the new characters this season in depth.

  • Isn't the walker couple are old person in 400 days?

  • AJ seemed a little feisty. She's just trying to guide you kid, trust her ;)

  • Thank you so much for creating this discussion! I really loved the gameplay! The lighting was really nice. The tension of trying to get into the car while surrounded by walkers was unbelievable. Anyways I am just shouting random crap but in short....... gameplay is fantastic!

  • I mean what I saw was by far the best gameplay segment I’ve ever seen in a telltale game. Also did you guys see when Clem picked up the animal skull a prompt popped up saying it could be used as a hood ornament, I wonder if this means you will be able to customize Clem’s appearance depending on what you find in the world.

  • Definitely not. They were killed by Nate and then used as watchdogs years ago in Georgia.

Man that footage was great. About the micro choices we saw

    • I'm with @dojo32161 on letting AJ swear. I taught Clem the word shit in s1 and I want to keep the tradition going.
    • I'm really split about killing the couple. I think I'll put them out of their misery so I can keep AJ safe. My reasoning is the same as Kent Mudle's
    • I need more details about avoiding the grenade trap. I may avoid it if the outcome is still entertaining but the cinematography was great in the car scene was so good that I may not want to dodge it.

The new graphic black lighting system is really great. I love the shot of the zombies in the distance after the grenade went off, it looked like a comic book panel! The new combat system also looks great and that one shot sequence was awesome to see.

All of this just has me excited :D

  • Yeah I'm pretty sure he said that, but also said that there's another way that you can access the food cache.

Oh okay i haven't play 400 days for years

Definitely not. They were killed by Nate and then used as watchdogs years ago in Georgia.

  • That would be pretty dope and a much welcomed feature! Kind of reminds me of how they kinda played with that idea in TFTBL, I was wondering when they would revisit that concept and add more RPG like nuances. Very glad you caught this and brought it up! So much was happening in those 15 minutes, I was pretty overwhelmed, lol.

Agreed. That was like some A+ Hollywood grade, Die Hard x Mission Impossible type cinematic-witchery!

I was like, did Telltale Games just REALLY create an entirely unexpected Uncharted / Tomb Raider type feeling for me? TF, this CAN'T be a Telltale Game! o_O

They aren't afraid to go all out & pull off some serious punches this time around, I love it! & This is just Episode 1's preview?!?! Man, we're seriously getting a good one...there's no way this game is going to fail to deliver.

  • I think the "Watch the swears" option is pretty adorable.

  • Everything except that "major" choice looks really good to me.
I don't know how many people picked this up but Clem picked an ornament from the ground that can be used as a hood ornament for your car, I thought that was pretty cool.

I like how you got objectives like "Find Food" and when selecting an item there's a small description like the water canteen saying "Haven't drank clean water in days".

If the story will also be as great as what they showed here plus if they make the episodes longer (They said episode one is long enough to satisfy us but who knows) I think this could be a great TT Walking Dead game, something we haven't had since the latter half of S2.

  • Looks like garbage. No faith in this game at all now.

  • TELLTALE TAKE MY MONEY

Tfw Telltale is doing everything people have been asking them to do for years (longer episodes, more interactivity, hubs, choices that actually have consequences etc), but some people still call the game garbage after only seeing like, the first 15 minutes of gameplay. Great. You're free to have your own opinion, but still. Give them some credit where it's due.

  • edited July 2018

I think the worst part is them not really explaining why they think it's "garbage". Like, if you think it's shit then fine more power to you, but explain why you think it's shit.

  • Tfw 15 minutes of gameplay on the internet is clear proof years of bad decisions and missteps won't be repeated again and the game will be amazing.

I never said the game will be amazing tho? I'm just saying that Telltale is showing clear sings of improvment ever since they have a new CEO and calling the game "garbage" (especially if you don't even bother to explain why you think it's "garbage") after you have only seen 15 minutes of gameplay isn't fair.

It's about as fair as the people citing it as proof of how good it must be. It's humorous watching both sides, because they were convinced of whatever they're saying this shows them before they saw it anyway. It looks nice. The full pessimistic 6 hours or optimistic 12 hours of gameplay the final product has will show whether or not they've improved. 15 minutes isn't really a sign, it's more an arrow carved in a tree. And the people calling it garbage probably couldn't do any better a job of explaining why they've reached that conclusion for an unreleased game any more than the ones declaring it amazing could.

Don't take them seriously bro. They're just hating for the sake of being toxic at this point. Best thing to do is to just laugh them off until they get the message and shutdown.

  • I have explained why in previous posts. This new, longer video just adds more confirmation to my previous assumptions (made from known information and the previous walkthrough video).

I think the exact opposite. If Telltale is confident enough that they would put this much out there, they must be really proud of what they're doing with this story. Can't expect it to be that bad. Hell, we can't expect it to be bad at all. LuL

  • The teaser was amazing and I’m stoked that 90% Of people here agree. Telltale is finally listening to the fans and even having new tools and hubs we haven’t seen before in this series.

Don’t let other people bother you if they think it’s trash. I don’t know why they think so. I’m guessing they’re still butthurt over ANF and can’t get over it and shit on the company for one bad TWD game. You can never satisfy people these days.

To those who think it’s garbage: can you explain to us why and how would you make the game different?
