Wouldn't have food cans and water have expired?

Might be a stupid question but wouldn't at this point of the apocalypse most canned food(and any other type of food) and water bottles have expired already?

  • That's what I thought, also the car gas fuel should be expired too. It's been like 10 years.

  • Pretty much. Only things left is agriculture and hunting. Though water will be a major issue. Only chance is the odd chance of finding an unpolluted well.

  • Well if they could get to a library they would find out a lot about farming...also the art of well digging...where they are there are major aquifers filled with good water. Canning with mason jars is another art they would pick up. Hunting would be good...hordes and raiders would be the only issues. And zombie hors seem to follow the warmth given off from highways unless there is undo sound.

  • Eh, there's definitely some food in cans that hasn't expired, and people wouldn't store them if it wasn't. Also, it seems there were homemade beans, which indicates to me that some people have learned skills that still make cans useful.

  • You underestimate the power of preservatives. There are foods out there that can last for decades (I know, I've had to eat it a few times).

  • I’m pretty sure that stuff from the station was canned food from when they had their crops going so the stuff wasn’t as old as you’d think .

  • I see . Fair enough.

  • True but there was no mention of this group digging or any aquifiers.

  • I know...but they have a river near...so water no issue.

  • You don't drink out of rivers lmao.
My guess is they boil it but if it's too contaminated then they'll need a chemical filter.

  • There are food cans that can be way too long without being eaten, and the water probably boiled, they could make something to take the water of the rain and them boil it.
