Haha, nice! I never played Bubble Bobble but I did have the sequel - Rainbow Islands - on my Amiga, back in the day. Good times, good times.

They're not my favourite game heroes of all time, but I was reading through the comments on that site and from what I understand Bub and Bob have already eliminated some mainstream hero from the poll in round 1. And people are getting upset because they haven't heard of the characters. There seems to be a bit of dramarama going on at Gamespot all thanks to a poll XD

Well, I'm not just about to go on that site myself, I'll just watch from afar. But I'm glad some almost forgotten retro heroes managed to get to round 2.

yep they beat out master chief from halo which i found hilarious. oh and im not sure but you might not have to sign up to vote. i just wanna see them win for the sake of it =)

on a side note i wonder if all this talk of them will spur someone to make a new game? i highly doubt but it could be interesting to see what theyd do with it.

I'm glad Master Chief was taken out in the first round....way overrated. But Bub and Bob? Awesome yes. Greatest VG heros of all time? No.

Bub and Bob? Aren't those the two harpoon-throwing bubble-smashing maniacs I loved so much at the arcades as a kid? I don't like Mustard Chef, he's just a ripoff from Doom 1 and 2. GO BUB, GO BOB!

Bub and Bob have to win together, or else they won't get the "true happy ending!"

They beat Master Chief? That's awesome. Everybody should vote for Little Mac to beat Cloud, too!

I'm all for less popular characters winning even if they don't really stand a chance. All of my picks from the first round were already knocked out. :(

I voted for Bub & Bob in the first round, but all the characters I REALLY wanted to see win it got eliminated. :( So I guess they're my second choice.

I'm not going to participate to that voting, because I have no idea who all those Japanese console game heroes are and also because anyone I could have voted are already out of the competition, that is Guybrush Threepwood, Manny Calavera, Nameless One (from Planescape Torment) and Cate Archer (NOLF is one of the few FPS series I actually like, because of it's characters and story).

But it's funny that someone remembers Bub and Bob these days. Back in the Amiga days I really liked Rainbow Island, Bubble Bobble was amusing, but I never liked Parasol Stars. (I haven't played any of the other titles of the series.) Still despite liking Rainbow Island, I just don't think that there's anything particularly interesting in the characters who seem to lack personality.

Not really, given that Taito release a new Bust-A-Move/Puzzle Bobble game every thirty seconds.

I thought that they didn't make Bubble Bobble games anymore, but apparently I was wrong. Those doesn't seem to attract attention of game magazines I read and I haven't seen any of those in local game stores. Probably I could find those games from somewhere, but it doesn't seem to be very popular franchise around here.

Yeah, they keep releasing them. The new one, Space Bust-A-Move/Puzzle Bobble Galaxy, is actually pretty good. But it's the second version on DS and actually makes less use of the touch screen than the first. And, of course, it's the same basic game as ever. You only ever need one version of Bust A Move.

for those of you keeping track, they have successfully defeated sonic. next victim: samus i must admit tho...this matchup scares me

Why do I have a feeling that the winner is going to be either Mario, Link, or Samus? And why do I have a feeling that this is exactly what GameSpot intended from the outset?

I am surprised that Duke made it so far, though.

I don't think it's INTENDED so much as expected. You have to account for extremely popular characters and also allow them a way to get to the last round to make it an exciting one. The pairings make sense in that right, I think it was some deftly planned internet magic that caused Bub and Bob to win over Master Chief, thus destroying the expectations of Gamespot, but they can't delude themselves and say that Mario ISN'T going to be a big contender.

Therefore they can't have the most exciting pair-ups happen in the first round. At least ONE underdog is making it through! Go Bub! Go Bob!
