[To non-native english speakers] Are you playing TFS in English or in your local language?

Well, i'm from Brazil, I played first in english, but later in portuguese. I must say, i'm impressed with the work telltalle did. Yes, the brazilian dub is not perfect, but I think it's good. I think telltale did a great job this time with the localization. And you? Did you play in your local language, or in English? Or both?

  • English all the way, both at speech and captions. English is kinda my favorite language and I haven't seen any games in my native language nor at the language of the country I live currently. (In case you are wondering I'm Bulgarian and I live in Greece.)

  • For the first and last Season I use my native language, for second, third and Michonne I have to use english language since there isn't my language in the option menu.

  • @MestreBerg The first time I see a BR in the community, I play 100% in br. I was not expecting a dubbing, subtitled already was good, although I do not like the voice of AJ in English.

I play in english because ***** my native language translation. Honestly, the people in my country translating... well, anything... are so ******* bad that my eyes hurt whenever I hear what characters say in english and what is translated in text. Oh and please, don't get me started on our dubbings, ugh... It's pathetic, that's what. Not only sometimes the translated sentence have a slightly or even more so changed meaning, other times it's cut half way through, some stuff weren't put in the text because some translator thought it's irrelevent.

So to answer your question shortly? I'm non-native english and I still play with english as a language. Everytime in any media.

  • I'm playing in my native language: french.
I hope this feature will be added to the upcoming games like Stranger Things or The Wolf Among Us because now I'm more focused on the game than on subtitles lol

  • Finally in Italian.
Obviously playing in my own language.
And the translation is quite well done!
Very VERY happy about it! ^_^

  • here's to our shitty language (i play in english btw)

It's not like I have a choice - they don't translate it to Czech, so I have to play the English version. But even if they did, I'd still play the original version, because our translations are usually... not very good.

I'm from Croatia and even though there isn't translation to Croatian, there is still absolutely NO way I would listen to it in my language or any other beside English. English just has to be it, otherwise twd just isnt twd

I'm an Arabian but I didn't even bother trying the Arabic version because I'm good with English.

  • I'm from germany but I play in english, because it's the original experience. Yes, it sounds snobbish but it's true. I think the german dub is pretty great, but i've played all the previous games in english and to change that now with the final season just feels wrong. If they intent to dub the other seasons later down the line, I might be inclined to play them again in the german dub.

Another reason is that I've learned english by playing games and watching movies and tv shows in english. It feels more like a habbit now, though. German dubs are rather high quality - most of the time - but you can still hear that it was recorded in a studio. It just sounds too clear. That might be more of a problem with movies and tv shows, though, since voice work for games are always recorded in a studio, no matter the language.

  • I'm from Italy but I play in english, because the game is settle in America. It's more realistic.

  • Arabian here and will always play in English no matter how they make a decent job of dubbing.. I am used to Mellissa Hutchison’s voice, seeing Clem talk with a different voice than her is weird.

  • I don't understand why there is no option to disable language pack downloads when downloading the game. I speak two languages, but I will always play in English. The first reason: original VO. The second reason: poor quality of the subtitles. I can't rate the quality of dubbing because TSF for my language only have subtitles.

  • Hello i am a German Guy and play all TWD in English both Voice and Captions cause the German version is Terrible in Season 1, 2, 3.

In Season 1 was no German captions first. A good friend from my TWD Buddy make his own captions Translating from English to German. What did telltale they take his work and build them into there game later.
This guy make some Errors in German Writing and you can find them 1:1 in the Telltale Version later cause they took his work thats was avaible for downloading. That was ok for this guy, but what was not ok that Telltale dont mention him in the Afterwords.

The others Season 2 and 3 have terrible translating in German real crap if you know the Original Version in English.

Telltale the Company's wo did this translate job for you cheat you cause they make it wrong you lose so much atmosphere.

  • So just play it in English, like you should.

  • I know this isn't quite what you're asking for, but if it helps:

    • The Final Season starts up automatically in English the first time you play, at least in the US, so changing to another language isn't possible until you make it to the main menu somehow. At the moment, though, I'm using a spare playthrough in Portuguese (I myself am neither Brazilian nor from Portugal) audio with English subtitles.
    • Season 1, at least on Switch, doesn't have options for subtitles in other languages, even though there are official localizations. Even though I'm not a native Japanese speaker, I really wanted to play with Japanese subtitles.

  • Wait, telltale really did that? Take the work of fan to put in the game? Isn't it illegal? Or they take his authorization?
