A petition won't do much because TellTale needs more funding at least that's what I heard.
Fun fact, Telltale was actually inspired to start up because of a fan petition from the cancellation of a Sam and Max game from LucasArts in 2004.

Employees from Telltale are free to start another company. That's how we got a game like Firewatch. But just because they form another company doesn't mean they can continue working on the old games. That takes licensing which costs a lot.
