Pros and Cons of "Starved for Help"?

Starved for Help is the most acclaimed episode of TWDG and a fan favorite but what are the pros and cons of this episode that you have?

Comments

  • It's a really iconic episode but i'll break down my pros and cons.

    Pros

    Amazing character development
Slightly predictable but none the less amazing plot twist done amazingly
Great Villain diologue and feeling of fear in many parts
Great bonding moments between Kenny and Lee if the player seeks to be on the boat gods side.

My favorite murder of the series (Salt lick through the damn skull. Boom Shacka Lacka)

    Cons
The episode has plenty of wandering moments where you have to fiddle with the generator or find tools or find the lock. Lots of walking. It can get mundane

Not a lot of Clem in this episode

  • There was a lot of Lilly in it. Thats why I love it.

  • For me that episode is con-less because the fear of walkers and humans is what made this ep a masterpiece.

  • Yes! I love how the fear and gravity of both walkers and humans at the same time are maintained - they co-exist and none undermines the other.

For me that episode is con-less because the fear of walkers and humans is what made this ep a masterpiece.

  • It’s the best filler episode ever made.

  • It's a good episode, don't get me wrong, but It's just filler. It doesn't really move the story forward in any way.

  • We're introduced to The Stranger though?

It's a good episode, don't get me wrong, but It's just filler. It doesn't really move the story forward in any way.

  • It builds up characters and starts the war between Kenny and Lilly though, isn't that moving the story forward ?

  • There's a lot of character development and seeds of plot that happens in that episode.

  • Builds character relationships, Larry, Stranger, etc.

  • character development

Yeah, I guess. But if you look at the overall plot of twdg, it doesn't bring much to the table. Larry dying and Ben being introduced is pretty much the only two things that have a real impact on later episodes.

  • And The Stranger?

  • It could've been even better but rewrites and time constraints held it back

  • Yeah kinda. But even if you don't steal the food he still blames you for it.

    And The Stranger?

  • Do you think TTG wanted you to steal from The Stranger? Cos it seems like it's canon and if you don't steal from him it feels half assed

Yeah kinda. But even if you don't steal the food he still blames you for it.

  • The explanation was that he was specifically targeting Kenny and Katjaa since they chose to do so anyway, but hearing about all the danger was allowed to be put in hit a little too close to home.

  • Yeah, probably. I always steal from him cuz it makes more sense.

  • the pros for this episode is getting to help kill larry

  • edited October 2018

    Pros:

    • Questions your morals (kill Jolene or not, help kill Larry or save him, kill The St. John Brothers or not, and steal from the car or not).

    • Plants the seeds for the final confrontation in the game with The Stranger

    • Nice Plot twist

    • Good development for the characters (Lily, Kenny, Larry, Ben, etc.)

    • Introduced one of the best villains in TWDG.

    • Strong opening sequence

    • Good treatment of a Determinant character (Doug/Carley)

    • Had the funniest line in TWDG history (“You’re...you know...urban?”)

    Cons

    • Not enough time to learn more about The Bandits.

    • Mark’s character

    • Travis’s Death

  • I think the Bandits were partially left a bit nebulous intentionally to have them primarily be a group of faceless entities that used to have a stronger sense of humanity. Still, they do technically get backstory via Jolene and I think some comments from Danny.

Mark was put there to help imply a passage of time and originally would've made the choice regarding Mr. Parker mean a little more.

  • I kinda wish we could have actually set up the defences, instead of being treated to a vague nightmare.
