TV Adaptations

With the recent comments from Scott Gimple about expanding the Walking Dead universe, including spin off shows, do you think this will include adaptations of the games?

There’s definitely a part of me that would like to see that, though I don’t know if anyone could fully do the likes of Clem, Lee and Kenny justice.

  • How can Lee be there if his entire story was already told in Season 1? It's pretty much imposibble to make a movie about game characters that are being written by our choices.

As of now - the three Rick Grimes movies are officially announced and that's it for now. They probably will be making new stories after those three films.

  • It could work.

We just need someone who understands what the games wanted to tell. The thing is, that the devs from telltale generally didn't knew where it was all going to lead up to. Every season feels really self contained. With a tv show adaption, we know where things might be heading. Carvers group, the new frontier, ericsons. Just imagine how someone would write S1 and S2, if they knew where S3 and S4 will go.

But the story would need to be completely re-structured and re-written to fit the television format. Some things will get cut, some might get changed and a lot will be added. I have several ideas on how to do it. For example:

Doug's character will either need a complete overhaul or he gets cut out entirely. He's useful for the group, but ultimately useless for the story or characters.

Clem will be much closer to Lily than she was in the game.

The first episode could be like this:

    • introduction to Lee. The scene in the car basically stays the same.
    • car crash. Policemen dies. Lee hears walkers, but doesn't really see one. He sees Clem in the distance. Goes into her direction.
    • Lee opens the backdoor to Clems house, but Walker-Sandra immidietly attacks him and forces him back out. His leg is still fucked.
    • Sandra slowly crawls towards Lee, who himself is crawling away and obviously overwhelmed by the situation.
    • he gets under Clems treehouse, where she drops a hammer for
Lee. He takes it and kills Sandra brutally.

    • He and Clem meet and talk for a while and he decides to check the house for more of them and tells Clem to stay in her treehouse.

    • He enters the house, sees the blood in the kitchen and the messages by Clems mother. He listens to them while further checking the house. Clem doesn't hear them.
    • he tells Clem that the house is safe, so she comes down. They talk a few minutes while searching the house for anything useful. It get's dark.
    • they hear noises outside like someone is pushing a car away by force. They check and it's Kenny and his family trying to open up the street, while some walkers come near.
    • Lee helps them if they take him and Clem with them. They do.
    • They talk during the drive about what the fuck's happening and where they should go.
    • Lee suggests to check out Macon. Maybe there are people there. Kenny agrees, but the car won't make it there due to an nearly empty fuel tank. They need to walk a little bit.
    • they enter Macon and the streets are seemingly empty. Only corpses.
    • they see some wandering figures, who Duck mistakes for people. Duck tries to get their attention, but he get's attacked instead. They're walkers. Kenny saves him, while alarming all the other walkers, like all the corpses, who slowly rise up.
    • Kenny tries to stop them, but they're just too many. They get pushed closer and closer to a building looking like a drugstore.
    • They don't get the door open while being surrounded.
    • just before the walkers get too close, the door opens. Carley comes out, shoots the nearest walkers and get's the group inside. No dialogue.
    • we get a glimpse inside the store and the people inside it. There's Larry, who looks completely exhausted, probably close to a heart attack, Lilly, Larrys daughter, who takes care for him, Doug, who tries to get that radio fixed and Carley, who is the only one with a gun. They weren't here much longer than Lee and his people.
    • Lee looks around. It's surprisingly quite. No one knows what the fuck's going on so no one says anything. Nothing.
    • everyone just sits down, taking a breath. They need it.
    • then, Carley asks the one question:
    • what the fuck are we supposed to do now?
    • no one knows.
    • End of episode one.

    I'd watch it.
