Anybody else notice that Clementine isn’t using a gun in TFS ?

edited December 2018 in The Walking Dead

Kind of look at it I have not once seen her even tried to carry a gun, except for melee weapons her martial arts moves... I mean she’s been using guns since season one all the way to ANF maybe an Intense fire fight happened at the ranch or she killed somebody by acts and then yet again/ just like that sales merchant from Prescott.

What do you guys think?

  • Probably just ran out of ammo and/or lost the thing, only being able to find one for AJ to use.

  • You made this thread because of Dom's video, didn't you ?

It's ~8 years into the apocalypse I would imagine finding guns plus ammo isn't that easy. The only people with guns are the delta so far, and they are presumably a big community who probably hoarded guns and ammo.
Clem is just one person, her chances of finding a gun that works are pretty slim, sure AJ has one but he only has 2 rounds.

Another thing is the noise. So far into the apocalypse there are a lot more walkers than people.
Actually people are pretty rare so using a gun isn't the smartest idea since every walker will hear you and be down on you.

Knives and bows are the smart choice here, unless you are fighting people

  • This is something I do find really peculiar, and I’m wondering if this might tie into something that happened at the ranch. They do have a gun, but even after AJ killed Marlon, she still lets him be the one to hold onto it. It has confused me as to why she just lets AJ use the gun, considering how she’s more experienced with them and has been surviving for longer. Maybe it’s because she knows AJ is smaller/weaker and can’t take out walkers as easily as she can, but I’m still not sure that’s a viable reason considering the noise they make and AJ’s inexperience. Like I said, maybe it ties into something that happened at the ranch and she’s developed some sort of stigma about using guns and why she’s only used a knife or bow and arrow this season.

  • Guns get hard to come by eventually. It's not that she hates guns, she was about to grab Lilly's rifle when she was tackled. Maybe we'll get to use one soon. Plus, I think it severs the story better.

  • Either this plot detail will be revealed in the next episodes or its just the scarcity of finding functioning guns after almost a decade into the apocalypse.

Yeah it's been bugging me. 2 episodes in and my Clemmy still hasn't busted some shots... I just find a knife to be inferior. Clem's been holding glocks since she was 8. All of this Abel and Lily business would be over with if she carried something on her.

Weirdly enough, she's given the propriety of gun responsibility solely to AJ... Pretty strange that we haven't seen her ask to borrow it.

Actually I think the more real (and boring) explanation is that Clem wants AJ to fully protect himself. Like if AJ's cornered by walkers or other people, a gun would be the biggest lifesaver.

I'm guessing if Clem were to keep the gun to herself, it would just cause anxiety if AJ were to get lost somewhere and cut off from her with no real advantage of protecting himself.

  • Seeing as how she wastes almost 10 bullets at the end of Season 3 and can determinantly crash three perfectly good vehicles, I’m not surprised.

  • Also just to add on my first comment the cast of TFS also doesn't have any guns...but bows and arrows and Spears....only lily and her gang have em because they have a big fucking community who can have some stock of this shit and take care of it.

  • I agree with some. Ammo and firearms are scarce to come by. Give or take a persons luck.
And sometimes melee is the best way when dealing with lurkers, as we already know regarding noise. B)

  • Not once have I seen a character in the game use a suppressor not once!

Would be interesting if I see a character in adult I get a suppressor.

I think in Dom’s video or somewhere else (I cannot remember) they guessed that since AJ is still little, he uses the gun because Clem doesn’t want him to hill the walkers close range.

Yep. And no one at the school has one either. This is a detail I very much appreciate. Everywhere else on the TWD universe survivors just find firearms as easily as they find water and they ALL know how to use them! That would most definitely not be the case.

  • Ammo gets hard to come by overtime. AJ needs a way of defending himself, and he isn't physically capable of facing a walker head on like Clementine. Keep in mind that he also has a knife, as seen in Episode 1 and Episode 2, but using a gun keeps him away from the frontlines, so it is probably more of a safety precaution.
And having Clementine not use a gun is good for gameplay, it is stressful trying to fight 3 or 4 walkers approaching you and the only weapon you have is a knife, you get right up face to face with the walkers

  • AJ knows that noise is bad.

  • Ch'yeah.

    Also, they're fighting a war.

    Yeah, I kinda do too.

"Any idiot can shoot a gun."

  • In the unscripted combat, you have to get up close to the walkers to kill them, especially with just a knife. And while you do that, more start moving towards Clementine, which creates tension and fear from the player

Keep in mind this is America. There are more guns than there are human beings in this country.

    Not unrealistic at all.

What is actually unrealistic are the Ericson kids surviving and staying at a secluded abandoned school for seemingly almost a decade, and not having been invaded/killed by an outside force right up until recently.

That's because of the new combat system. I think they want to evolve it further with each episode.

    Episode 1: Knife
    Episode 2: Bow + Knife
Episode 3: Distracting walkers with stones + Bow + Knife
    Episode 4: Gun + Stones + Bow + Knife

    At least that's my guess.

  • That could potentially be an interesting way of going about it.
